"Did some serious testing with my Canon Rebel T6 today, diving deep into the world of aperture (AV), shutter speed (TV), and ISO settings to get those perfect shots—whether indoors or outdoors. 🌞📸 I noticed a few things and wanted to share the breakdown:
Soft Focus Causes:
Aperture Too Wide (Low f-stop): When the aperture is wide open (like f/1.8 or f/2.8), your depth of field gets super shallow, leading to soft focus if you miss the focus point. So if you’re not getting sharp focus on your subject, it could be because of that. Fix: Try using a higher f-stop like f/5.6 or f/8 to get more of the scene in focus.
Shutter Speed Too Slow: If you're shooting indoors with slow shutter speeds, your camera may struggle to capture sharp images, resulting in motion blur. Fix: For indoor shots, try using at least 1/125 or 1/200 sec to get clear images. For outdoor shots, you can push it faster to 1/500 sec, depending on the light.
ISO Too High: Pushing ISO too high (like 3200 and beyond) can create that grainy, noisy look. Fix: I found that keeping my ISO between 800–1600 gave me a good balance of light and clarity. Any higher and the noise creeps in, especially on the Rebel T6.
Flash Issues: The built-in flash on my Canon is super harsh if you're shooting up close or in low light. It can cause uneven lighting or even flash burn. Fix: I tried bouncing the flash off the ceiling (DIY diffuser style) or using a regular flash with longer exposure to capture ambient light.
Quick Fix for Focus:
Using live view mode to focus—just zoom in on the subject, adjust your focus point, and zoom out to check. If it’s sharp, shoot away. This made a huge difference in keeping focus consistent. 😊
