"You need a new job."
You stared down at the mountain of notes spread across the library table. "That's what I just said."
"No," Higuruma corrected, turning another page in his textbook. "You said, 'I think I might need to look for a new job.'" He glanced up at you over the rim of his glasses. "That's different."
You groaned and dropped your forehead against your arms. "I hate you."
"You'll thank me when you're not failing Criminal Procedure because you spent all your free time working."
"I wouldn't fail."
"You fell asleep during lecture last Tuesday."
"I was tired."
"You were snoring."
You lifted your head just enough to glare at him. "I do not snore."
Higuruma gave you a flat look. "You do."
"I don't."
"You absolutely do."
"You sound very confident for someone who was sitting three rows away."
"I heard you from three rows away."
You stared at him. He returned your stare with the same unamused expression. After a few seconds, you sighed and sat back in your chair.
"Fine. Maybe I need a new job."
"That's what I've been saying."
You picked up your pen and began absentmindedly tapping it against your notebook. Your current part time job had seemed perfect when you'd first taken it. The hours were decent, the pay was enough to cover your expenses, and most importantly, it had been flexible. At least, it was flexible. Lately, your manager had been scheduling you for longer shifts and asking you to cover whenever someone called out. You'd agreed at first. You needed the money, and saying no felt difficult when you were already trying to prove yourself as a reliable employee but there was only so much you could sacrifice. Your grades had started slipping. Your reading assignments were piling up and the amount of time you had left to actually study for the career you were working toward had become almost nonexistent. You flipped through your notes.
"I've barely had time to prepare for my mock trial."
Higuruma nodded. "Neither have I."
"You're always prepared."
"That's not true."
"You color code your case briefs."
"That doesn't mean I'm prepared."
"You have tabs."
"They're useful."
"You have tabs for your tabs."
He looked down at his textbook. "...They're organized."
You laughed. There was a brief silence between you. The library was quiet around you, save for the occasional turning of a page and the distant tapping of someone's keyboard. Afternoon sunlight filtered through the tall windows, falling across the table and illuminating the mess of books between you.
You sighed. "I need something part time. Something with reasonable hours."
Higuruma leaned back in his chair. "Have you looked?"
"Not seriously."
"Why not?"
"Because every job listing I find either wants me available twenty four hours a day or has a schedule that would make it impossible to attend class."
"That's unfortunate."
"Very." He considered this for a moment. Then his eyes shifted toward his laptop. "Actually..."
You looked at him. "What?"
"I saw something earlier."
He turned his laptop around and slid it across the table. You leaned forward. A job listing filled the screen.
PART TIME DAYCARE ASSISTANT
You blinked. "A daycare?"
"Apparently."
You scrolled through the listing. The position was part time, with morning and afternoon shifts available. The hours were specifically advertised as being compatible with college students. That immediately caught your attention.
"That's...actually not bad."
Higuruma nodded. "Small daycare. Family owned."
"Any experience required?"
"Childcare experience preferred."
You frowned. "I've babysat my cousins."
"That counts."
"Does it?"
"You're not going to put 'successfully kept three children alive for six hours' on your résumé."
"I was going to."
"I know."
You smiled. Then you looked at the name of the daycare.
Pointedcaps Children's Daycare.
"Do you think I should apply?"
"I think you should."
"You don't think it's weird?"
"What?"
"A law student working at a daycare."
Higuruma looked at you as though you'd asked him a ridiculous question. "You need money."
"Fair."
"and it's part time."
"Also fair."
"And you're going to become a criminal defense lawyer, not a corporate attorney."
You raised an eyebrow. "What does that have to do with anything?"
He returned to his notes. You narrowed your eyes.
"You're judging me."
"I'm not."
"You are."
"I'm simply saying that I don't think your career path requires you to spend every waking moment inside a law library."
You leaned back in your chair. Your eyes drifted toward the daycare listing again. Predictable hours. Something completely separate from school. It might actually work.
"Okay."
Higuruma glanced up.
"I'll apply."
"Good."
"You too."
He paused.
"Why?"
"Because you need a job too."
"I already have one."
"You just complained about yours yesterday."
"I did not."
"You said your manager was incompetent."
"He is."
"And you said you were looking for something else."
Higuruma was silent. You smiled triumphantly.
"See?"
He sighed. "Fine."
You pushed the laptop back toward him. "Apply."
He stared at the listing. Then at you. "You're very bossy."
"And you're very stubborn."
"That's rich coming from you."
"Apply, Hiromi." He sighed again but he opened the application.
A few days later, you found yourself standing outside Pointedcaps Children's Daycare with a folder tucked beneath your arm. You stared at the building. It wasn't particularly large. A cheerful sign hung above the entrance, and colorful drawings decorated the windows. Through the glass, you could see several children running around inside while an older looking man attempted to keep them from climbing onto a table. You smiled faintly.
Well.
This was certainly different from law school. You checked your reflection in the window. Your clothes were professional enough for an interview, you thought. Nothing too formal, but respectable. You took a breath. Then you opened the door. A small bell chimed overhead.
"Hello!"
You looked up. A tall, white haired man appeared from behind the front desk.
He smiled brightly. "You're here for the interview, aren't you?"
"Yes."
"Wonderful! You must be—" He glanced down at the clipboard in his hand. "[name]?"
You blinked. "Yes."
"You're right on time." He smiled. "I'm Qifrey. I own the daycare."
"Nice to meet you."
"You too."
Before you could say anything else, another man appeared behind him. He was slightly shorter, broad shouldered, and looked significantly more exhausted.
"Qifrey."
"What?"
"Stop standing in the doorway."
"I'm greeting our applicant."
"You're blocking the entrance."
Qifrey looked down. You looked down. A toddler was standing directly behind you, staring up at both of you.
"Oh." Qifrey stepped aside. "Come in."
You laughed softly. "Thank you."
You followed them inside. You had no idea that, a few days later, you'd be standing in this exact same room again and you had even less idea that you'd be standing beside another law student that is not Higuruma. A man who would eventually become your closest rival in the courtroom.
"You didn't apply."
You stared at Higuruma across the library table. He didn't look up from his book.
"I did not."
"You told me you would."
"I intended to."
"That's not the same thing."
"No."
You narrowed your eyes. "What happened?"
Higuruma finally looked up. There was a brief pause.
"...I got a raise."
You blinked. "What?"
"My manager offered me a raise when I told him I was thinking about quitting."
You stared at him in disbelief. "That's it?"
"That's it."
"You betrayed me for money."
"I was offered more money."
"Traitor."
"You'd do the same thing."
"I absolutely would."
"Then we're in agreement."
You crossed your arms. "How much?"
"$30 an hour"
Your expression immediately changed. "...Okay. I understand."
"I thought you might."
"You should've told me."
"I was going to."
"When?"
"Eventually."
"You are terrible at communicating."
"So I've been told."
You sighed, shaking your head. At least Higuruma wouldn't have to worry about finding another job anymore. You, however, were still unemployed. Fortunately, that didn't last long. A few days later, you were sitting on your bed, scrolling through your phone when an email notification appeared. You nearly ignored it. Then you saw the subject.
You opened it. You read it once. Then twice. Then a third time just to make sure you hadn't misunderstood. You had been hired. A smile slowly spread across your face.
"Yes!" You immediately reached for your phone.
You: I GOT THE JOB
The response from Higuruma came almost immediately.
Higuruma: Congratulations.
You: YOU COULD AT LEAST SOUND EXCITED
Higuruma: Congratulations!
You: better
Higuruma: When do you start?
You: Monday
Higuruma: Good luck.
You smiled. You were going to need it. Monday came faster than you expected. Your first shift began in the afternoon, after your classes ended. You arrived at Pointedcaps Children's Daycare a few minutes early and stepped inside. The familiar bell chimed overhead.
"You're here!" Qifrey appeared from the hallway. "Welcome back!"
"Hi, Mr.Qifrey."
"I'm glad you accepted the position."
"Me too."
He smiled. "There's someone else I'd like you to meet."
You glanced behind him. A young man was standing near one of the tables. He was tall, dressed neatly, and had a serious expression that immediately made you think of someone who had never once submitted an assignment late. His posture was straight. His clothes were immaculate and there was something about his expression that made him seem...unapproachable.
Qifrey gestured toward him. "This is Easthies. He is starting today as well."
Easthies turned toward you. His eyes briefly moved over you before settling on your face.
"Good afternoon."
"Hi."
"We're scheduled for the same shift."
You blinked. "Looks like it."
And then he walked away. You stared after him.
"...Okay."
Qifrey covered his mouth. You weren't sure if he was hiding a smile. You turned toward him.
"Is he always like that?"
Qifrey's smile widened. "Pretty much."
You sighed. Great. Your new coworker was apparently a robot. The afternoon passed surprisingly quickly. You quickly learned that childcare was nothing like you had expected. You had assumed the hardest part would be keeping track of everyone. You were wrong. The hardest part was keeping up with them. One child wanted a snack. Another wanted a different snack. A third was crying because the second child had taken the blue crayon and somehow, a fourth child had managed to get underneath a table without anyone noticing.
You crouched down. "Hey, buddy. Come out."
"No."
"Why not?"
"I'm hiding."
"I can see you."
"No you can't."
You stared directly at him. "I can literally see your feet."
He looked down at his socks. Then back at you.
"...Oh."
You laughed. Across the room, Easthies watched the interaction. You didn't notice the faintest hint of amusement cross his face. Later, another child grabbed a toy from a little girl.
"Hey," Easthies said firmly.
The child froze.
"Give that back."
"No."
"It belongs to her."
"No."
Easthies crouched down so they were eye level. "You need to return it."
The child hugged the toy tighter. "No."
Easthies stared at him. The child stared back. You watched the exchange from across the room. It looked like two attorneys negotiating a settlement. Finally, Easthies said,
"That isn't negotiable."
You nearly laughed. The child didn't budge.
You walked over. "Easthies."
He glanced at you. "What?"
"She's three."
"I know."
"Then stop negotiating with her like she's opposing counsel."
For a second, his expression remained completely serious. A quiet breath escaped his nose. Almost a laugh. You stared at him. Did he just—
He stood up. "Fine."
You smiled. "Fine?"
"I'll leave the negotiation to you."
"You're giving up?"
"No." He glanced at the child. "I'm delegating."
You laughed. "Right."
He walked away. You looked after him. Maybe he wasn't as serious as you thought. By the end of your shift, the daycare had finally quieted down. Most of the children had gone home. The remaining few were playing quietly while Qifrey handled the paperwork at the front desk. You were wiping down one of the tables when Easthies appeared beside you.
"You're doing that incorrectly."
You looked at him. "I'm sorry?"
He pointed at the spray bottle. "You're using too much."
You looked at the table. Then at him.
"You're telling me I've been wiping a table wrong?"
"Yes."
"It's a table."
"I understand."
"There's a correct way to wipe a table?"
"Yes."
You stared at him. He stared back. Then, completely deadpan, he added,
"I've spent three years studying law. I assure you, I've become exceptionally qualified to have strong opinions about things I know nothing about."
There was a beat of silence. You burst out laughing. Easthies looked almost surprised.
"You were joking."
"I was."
"You actually know how to joke."
"Occasionally."
You shook your head, still smiling. "I thought you were serious all day."
"I was."
"That's somehow worse."
A small smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. It was subtle. Barely there but it was there. You looked at him for a moment longer. Maybe Easthies wasn't cold. Maybe he was just reserved and maybe, beneath all that seriousness, there was actually a sense of humor.
You finished wiping down the table. "So, Easthies..."
"Yes?"
"What are you studying?"
He paused. "Law."
You smiled. "Me too."
"I know."
You blinked. "You know?"
"Qifrey mentioned it."
"Oh."
A brief silence. Then he asked, "What area?"
You leaned against the table. "Criminal defense."
His expression changed slightly. Not negatively. Just enough for you to notice.
"I'm pursuing prosecution."
You raised an eyebrow. "Seriously?"
"Yes."
"Well." You smiled. "Looks like we're on opposite sides."
He regarded you for a moment. "Perhaps."
Neither of you knew it yet, but those two words would become a recurring theme between you. Because you had met as two strangers working a part time job at a daycare. But eventually, one of you would stand on one side of a courtroom and the other would stand on the opposite side and neither of you would ever quite get used to it.
"So." You started.
Higuruma looked up from his notes. "What?"
You were sitting across from him in the library, your laptop open but completely untouched. "You know Easthies?"
His brow furrowed. "Easthies?"
"Yeah." You leaned back in your chair. "That's his name. You know him?"
"Not personally."
You frowned. "How do you know him?"
Higuruma closed his textbook. "I've heard of him."
You stared at him.
"He's friends with Utowin."
Your eyes widened. "Wait. Our Utowin?"
"How many Utowins do you know?"
"I don't know. Maybe there are two."
"There aren't."
You sat back. "You're telling me Easthies knows Utowin?"
"Yes."
"And you know Utowin."
"Yes."
"So technically, you know Easthies."
"No."
You pointed at him. "Six degrees of separation."
"That's not how that works."
"It absolutely is."
Higuruma ignored you. "Utowin mentioned him before."
"What did he say?"
"That Easthies is serious."
You laughed. "That's an understatement. What else?"
Higuruma thought for a moment. "He's apparently very good."
You stopped laughing. "Good?"
"At law."
"Oh."
Higuruma nodded. "He's one of those people who actually enjoys studying."
You stared at him. "That's terrifying."
"Apparently, he's especially interested in criminal law."
You thought about your conversation with Easthies at the end of your shift. I'm pursuing prosecution. It suddenly made more sense.
"He's studying to become a prosecutor."
Higuruma nodded. "That tracks."
"Why?"
"Because he has that personality."
You frowned. "What personality?"
Higuruma looked at you. "You know."
"No, I don't."
"The kind where someone tells you there is a rule and you immediately assume they're going to make sure you follow it."
You stared at him. "...You haven't even met him."
"I've met people like him."
You laughed. "He's not that bad."
Higuruma raised an eyebrow. "You've known him for one day."
"I know."
"And you're already defending him?"
"I'm not defending him."
"You just said he's not that bad."
"Because he's not."
Higuruma studied you for a moment. Then a small smile appeared on his face.
"You like him."
You nearly choked. "What?"
"You like him."
"I've known him for one day!"
"I didn't say romantically."
"You implied it."
"I didn't."
"You absolutely did."
Higuruma returned to his notes. "You've always been defensive."
You stared at him. "I'm going to throw this book at you."
"You won't."
"Try me."
He smiled faintly. Then you remembered something. "Wait."
Higuruma looked up again.
"Does Utowin know he's working at Pointedcaps?"
"I don't know."
"I should ask."
"You should."
You pulled out your phone. Before you could open your messages, Higuruma spoke again.
"Actually, don't."
You paused. "Why?"
"Because if Utowin knows Easthies is working there, he'll probably tell Easthies that he knows me."
"So?"
"So then Easthies will know you know me."
You stared at him. "...And?"
Higuruma's expression remained completely serious. "And then he'll know we're friends."
You blinked. "Hiromi."
"I don't want people to know I'm friends with you."
"I will chuck this book at you."
"Proving my point."
You laughed and shook your head. "You really are impossible."
"So I've been told."
Later that evening, Higuruma did end up messaging Utowin. The conversation was short.
Higuruma: You know someone named Easthies?
Utowin: Yeah.
Higuruma: He works at a daycare now.
Utowin: What?
Higuruma: With [name]
Utowin: You're kidding.
Higuruma stared at the screen.
Higuruma: No.
A moment later, another message appeared.
Utowin: That's actually hilarious.
Higuruma: Why?
Utowin: Because she's probably going to drive him insane.
Higuruma looked across the library at you. You were currently trying to balance your textbook on your head. He looked back at his phone and smiled. That sounded about right.
You knew something was wrong the moment you walked into the daycare. Qifrey was standing behind the front desk. Alone. That, in itself, wasn't particularly strange. What was strange was the fact that he looked exhausted. There were dark circles beneath his eyes, his hair was more disheveled than usual, and he was staring down at a clipboard like it had personally offended him.
You stopped just inside the doorway. "Mr. Qifrey?"
He looked up. "Oh!" His expression immediately brightened. "Good morning!"
"Are you okay?"
"I'm perfectly fine."
You stared at him. He smiled. You continued staring.
"...You're lying."
Qifrey laughed awkwardly. "Perhaps a little."
You set your bag down. "What happened?"
"It's Olruggio."
Your eyebrows rose. "What about him?"
"He's sick."
"Oh." You glanced around. "How sick?"
"Very" Qifrey sighed. "He woke up this morning with a fever and called me to say he wouldn't be able to come in."
"Is he okay?"
"He'll be fine. He just needs to rest."
You nodded. "Then who's handling everything he normally does?"
Qifrey's smile disappeared. "That's the problem."
You looked around the daycare. The children were already beginning to arrive. A little boy ran past you. Someone else was crying near the entrance. Another child was loudly announcing that they didn't want to eat breakfast.
You looked back at Qifrey. "...What does Mr.Olruggio normally do?"
You looked toward the chaos unfolding behind you. Then back at him.
"You need help."
"I do."
He smiled sheepishly. "And unfortunately, I don't think I can handle both."
You immediately understood. "Okay."
Qifrey blinked. "Okay?"
"I'll help."
"You don't even know what you're agreeing to."
"Neither do you."
He laughed. "Fair point."
Before you could ask what exactly you'd be doing, the front door opened again. Easthies walked in. He was carrying his usual neat black bag, looking as composed as ever.
"Good morning."
"Good morning," you replied.
Qifrey turned toward him. "Easthies."
He stopped. "Yes?"
"I have a favor to ask."
Easthies looked at him. "What is it?"
"Olruggio is sick."
"Oh."
"Then you know that means I'm short a pair of hands."
Easthies glanced toward you. Then back to Qifrey.
"How can I help?"
Qifrey smiled. "I need one of you to help me with Olruggio's responsibilities."
There was a pause. You and Easthies looked at each other. Then at Qifrey.
"One of us?"
"Yes."
Easthies spoke first. "What exactly would that entail?"
"Administrative work. Scheduling, records, supply inventory, phone calls, things like that."
You looked at Easthies. He looked at you.
Then he said, "I'll do it."
You blinked. "That fast?"
He looked at you. "Is there a problem?"
"No." You shook your head. "Just surprised."
"Why?"
"You actually volunteered."
"I have no reason not to."
You stared at him. Qifrey suddenly looked relieved.
"Wonderful." Then he looked at you. "Which means I need you with the children."
You nodded. "Of course."
"Thank you."
You smiled. "Don't mention it."
Easthies picked up the clipboard Qifrey had left on the counter. You watched him scan through it.
He frowned. "These attendance sheets aren't organized chronologically."
Qifrey winced. "Oh."
"And it seems like a child wrote on this"
"That would be me..." Qifrey reluctantly admitted.
Easthies looked at him in confusion.
"I've got terrible handwriting when I'm in a rush..."
Easthies stared at him. "Right..."
You covered your mouth. Qifrey gave you an apologetic smile. You could already tell. This was going to be a long day. By midmorning, you'd forgotten all about the administrative work. There were too many children. One had decided that today was the perfect day to refuse to wear shoes. Another had spilled juice across the floor. Two of them were arguing over a stuffed rabbit and somehow, someone had gotten their hand stuck inside a toy bucket.
You crouched beside them. "Okay. Let's get your hand out."
"It won't come out!"
"I know."
"It hurts!"
"I know."
"I'M STUCK!"
"I know."
You glanced toward the front desk. Easthies was sitting there, surrounded by paperwork. He was writing something down. He looked completely unbothered.
You stared at him. "Must be nice."
He looked up. "What?"
"Being over there."
He glanced around. Then back at you. "I've made five phone calls."
"Congratulations."
"I've also reorganized the attendance records."
"Do you want a medal?"
He looked at you. "I wouldn't object."
You laughed. "You really are enjoying this."
"I'm enjoying the organization."
"You're a strange person."
"So I've been told."
You returned your attention to the child with the bucket. "Can you help me?"
Easthies stood and walked over. "What happened?"
"His hand is stuck."
He crouched down. "How?"
"I don't know."
Easthies examined the bucket. Then the child's hand.
"Turn your wrist."
The child did.
"Now pull."
Nothing happened. Easthies looked at you.
"Do we have soap?"
You blinked. "Soap?"
"It'll reduce the friction."
You stared at him. "That's smart."
He glanced at you. "I've been told."
You smiled. "Was that a joke?"
"No."
You laughed. He looked almost amused. By lunchtime, you were exhausted. You sat down for the first time all morning, rubbing your shoulder. Easthies was across the room, helping one of the children open a juice box. You watched him for a moment. He had been surprisingly good with them. Not naturally affectionate like Qifrey. Not particularly playful. But patient. Attentive. He never raised his voice. Even when a child was being difficult, he simply explained things until they listened. It was strange. You'd expected him to be intimidating. Instead, he was...steady.
A little boy wandered over and tugged on Easthies's sleeve. "Can you open this?"
Easthies looked down. "Of course."
He opened the container. The boy smiled.
"Thank you!"
"You're welcome."
The child ran away. You smiled.
"You like them."
Easthies looked at you. "What?"
"The kids."
"I tolerate them."
"You just opened a juice box for him."
"He asked."
"You could've told him to ask someone else."
Easthies considered this. "That would've been inefficient."
You laughed. "Of course."
He sat down across from you. For a moment, neither of you spoke.
"How long have you known Higuruma?"
You looked at him. "Hiromi?"
"Yes."
"Since our first year."
Easthies nodded. "He's friends with Utowin."
You smiled. "You know Utowin?"
"Yes."
"Apparently you're friends with him too."
"We've known each other for a while."
You raised an eyebrow. "He's the reason Higuruma knew who you were."
Easthies looked mildly surprised. "Really?"
"Apparently."
He was quiet for a moment. "Did he say anything about me?"
You smiled. "That you're serious."
Easthies sighed. "That sounds like him."
You laughed. "And that you're apparently very good at law."
He looked away. "He's exaggerating."
"I don't think he is."
"You've only known me for a few days."
"And?"
"And you don't know how good I am."
You leaned forward. "Then I guess I'll have to find out."
Easthies looked at you. For a moment, his expression softened. Then a child suddenly shouted from across the room.
"TEACHER!"
You both turned.
Easthies sighed. "I think we're needed."
You stood. "Come on, counselor."
He raised an eyebrow. "Counselor?"
"You're a future prosecutor."
"And you're a future defense attorney." he replied.
"Exactly." You smiled. "Opposing counsel."
He stared at you for a moment. Then the faintest smile appeared.
"Noted."
You followed him toward the children and somehow, despite the chaos, the day didn't seem quite as exhausting anymore.
"B-But Olruggio looks mad in this panel!" SILENCE.. It's a look of love!—Look at their eyes! it's full of devotion! You can't convince me otherwise! ORUFREY WILL LIVE ON UNTIL THE END OF TIME!1!1!1!
you genuinely can't convince me Olruggio isn't the luckiest man in the world for sharing an atelier with Qifrey. if I was Olruggio, I would've gone crazy on Qifrey in the bedroom.. WH- Who said that? I didn't say that!
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURP... Teehee excuse me 🥰
You CANNOT convince me Agott and Coco aren't the cutest apprentice duo. Euini and Richeh would be a close second though.
—Cereal Killer anon
i totally agree! though i love euini and richeh's dynamic more bc im a sucker for those UGHH (agott and coco are my second bc i like the way agott shouts coco's name 👀)
I yell desperately.. But bro it's getting harder to defend Qifrey when he keeps hitting those twink ahh poses
(A good example would be that one pose where he's on the floor when he tested Coco's ink by using it on paper and he sort of falls and tries to get up)
OH MY GOD brighteyessx LITERALLY SENT ME THAT IMAGE (do u guys know each other or smth 👀)
Is it okay to ask Olruggio taking care of his drunk lover? (Normal universe) where she comes home from a party or gathering a bit toooo tipsy
Love your works!! <3
heyyy anon! sorry it took a while, been so busy the past couple of days 😭 anyways here is what you requested! hope you like itt
olruggio x drunk/tipsy reader
The door to the workshop creaked open sometime well past midnight. Olruggio glanced up from his work. He had been expecting you home hours ago. His eyes narrowed when he saw you standing in the doorway, one hand gripping the frame for support and the other clutching your bag.
“…Oh, no.”
You blinked at him. “Olly!”
That cheerful little smile immediately told him everything he needed to know. He sighed.
“You’re drunk.”
“I am not.”
“You're holding onto the doorframe.”
“I hold onto it all the time!”
“You're swaying.”
“It’s moving.”
“The doorframe is not moving.”
You stared at it suspiciously. “…Are you sure?”
Olruggio pinched the bridge of his nose. He should've known this would happen. You had gone out to a gathering earlier that evening, promising him you wouldn't stay too late. Apparently, "too late" had been a very flexible concept. He pushed his chair back and walked over.
“Come here.”
You immediately brightened. “Olly!” You jump into his arms. “You're so handsome.”
He stopped. “…What?”
“You're handsome.”
Your eyes wandered over him appreciatively, as if you'd just discovered this for the first time. Olruggio's ears turned red.
“You're drunk.”
“I know.”
“You just said you weren't.”
“I changed my mind.”
He muttered something under his breath and carefully took your bag from your shoulder. “Come on. Let's get you to bed.”
“But I missed you.”
“You saw me this morning.”
“That was so long ago.”
“It was twelve hours.”
“Exactly.”
He couldn't help the small smile that tugged at his mouth. “Alright, sweetheart. Come on.”
He slipped an arm around your waist and steadied you as you stumbled toward him. You immediately leaned your entire weight against his side.
“Olly?”
“Mm?”
“Did you miss me?”
“…Maybe.”
“That's not an answer.”
“Yes.”
You smiled. “A lot?”
He looked down at you. “…A lot.”
That seemed to satisfy you. You rested your head against his shoulder.
“AS you should.”
He guided you toward the bedroom, muttering about irresponsible drinking and how he was never letting you go to another gathering without him. You hummed happily.
“You love taking care of me.”
“Someone has to.”
“You're my favorite person.”
He paused. Then he sighed. “You're going to regret saying all this tomorrow.”
“No I won't.”
“You won't remember half of it.”
“I'll remember.”
“You won't.”
“I'll remember that you're handsome.”
“That's enough.”
He helped you sit on the edge of the bed before crouching in front of you.
“Shoes off.”
You looked down at your feet. “…Oh.”
He shook his head fondly and removed them for you. Then he brought you some water.
“Drink.”
You took the glass with both hands. One sip. Then you looked at him.
“Olly.”
“Yeah?”
“You're really pretty.”
He stared at you. “…Drink your water.”
You giggled. He watched until you'd finished most of the glass before taking it from you. He helped you settle beneath the blankets, pulling them comfortably around you. Just as he started to stand, your hand caught his sleeve.
“Don't go.”
Olruggio looked down. Your expression had softened, the drunken silliness giving way to something sleepy and vulnerable.
“I wasn't going anywhere.”
“You promise?”
“I promise.”
He sat beside you. You immediately scooted closer, resting your head against his chest. He hesitated for only a moment before wrapping an arm around you. His hand gently rubbed your back.
“You know,” he murmured, “I was worried.”
“Sorry.”
“You should be.”
“I'll be careful next time.”
“Good.”
“…Can I go to parties again?”
“Yes.”
“Without you?”
“…We'll discuss that later.”
You giggled into his shirt. He sighed but there was a smile on his face. After a few quiet minutes, your breathing became slower.
“Olly?”
“Mm?”
“I love you.”
His hand stopped for just a second. Then he resumed rubbing your back.
“I love you too.”
You smiled sleepily. “Even when I'm drunk?”
“Especially when you're drunk.” He glanced down at you. “…Although I'd appreciate it if you stayed upright next time.”
You were already asleep. Olruggio sighed.
“Of course.” He gently brushed your hair away from your face. “Sleep well, troublemaker.”
Morning came far too early. You groaned the moment you opened your eyes. Your head hurt. Your mouth felt dry and there was a vague, unpleasant feeling in your stomach that told you last night's decisions had consequences. You slowly rolled over. Olruggio was already awake. He was sitting at the edge of the bed, drinking his coffee while reading through some notes. He glanced over when he felt you move.
“Morning.”
You stared at him. “…Why are you awake?”
“Because some of us don't spend the night drinking enough alcohol to forget how to walk.”
You frowned. “I can walk.”
He raised an eyebrow. “You were holding onto the doorframe.”
You went still. “…I was?”
“The doorframe was apparently moving.”
Your face scrunched up. “Oh no.”
Olruggio's mouth twitched. “Oh, yes.”
You pulled the blanket over your head. “I don't want to know.”
“You really don't.”
“Olly.”
“Mm?”
“Did I embarrass myself?”
He took another sip of coffee. “That depends.”
“On what?”
“Your definition of embarrassing.”
You slowly lowered the blanket. “…What did I do?”
Olruggio looked at you. Then he smiled.
“You called me handsome.”
Your face immediately warmed. “That isn't embarrassing.”
“You called me handsome three times.”
“…Okay.”
“You told me I was pretty.”
You covered your face. “Oh, god.”
“You also told me I was your favorite person.”
“That's still true.”
His expression softened. “I know.”
You peeked between your fingers. “…Anything else?”
He paused. “You told me you loved me.”
Your hands slowly dropped. “I…”
He leaned closer. “And then you asked me if I loved you even when you were drunk.”
You stared at him. “What did you say?”
Olruggio smiled. “I said especially when you're drunk.”
Your heart fluttered despite your headache. “You really said that?”
“I did.”
You smiled. Then your eyes narrowed.
“…Wait.”
“What?”
“You said you wouldn't let me go to another gathering without you.”
“I said we'd discuss it.”
“That sounds like something a jealous husband would say.”
“I was worried.”
“You were jealous.”
“I was not.”
“You were.”
“I wasn't.”
“You were.”
Olruggio sighed. “You came home barely able to stand. Forgive me for being concerned.”
You smiled mischievously. “You're cute when you're worried.”
He stared at you. “…You're still drunk.”
“No, I'm not.”
“You're hungover.” He set his coffee down and reached for the glass of water he'd prepared earlier. “Drink.”
You accepted it. He watched until you finished half the glass. Then he handed you a small bowl of food.
“Eat something.”
You looked at him. “You prepared all this?”
“Of course.”
“You really do love taking care of me.” You smiled.
Olruggio sighed. “You're never going to let that go, are you?”
“Nope.”
He shook his head, but the smile on his face gave him away. You leaned against his shoulder.
“Thank you.”
His expression softened. “You're welcome.”
You were quiet for a moment.
“Olly?”
“Yeah?”
“I really do think you're handsome.”
He groaned. “Oh, we're starting again already?”
You laughed, carefully holding your aching head. “I'm sober this time.”
Headcanons for Easthies with a female and also a fellow Knights Moralis?
— I-Eat-Concrete-For-Fun Anon ♥
hi concrete anon! my requests are indeed open and i hope you like these headcanons >v<
easthies x F! knights moralis reader headcanons
i dont see easthies as someone who hovers over anyone. if you're someone who is capable enough to become a knights moralis, then you're capable enough to handle your own. at least that's what he tells himself.
for some reason, you always run into him whenever your patrol routes overlap. he would insist it's purely coincidence.
of course the other knights would notice before either of you
"he's here again today? i thought he was stationed somewhere else?"
he's pretty observant. he notices when you've skipped lunch because you were busy with fieldwork the whole day.
few minutes later, a wrapped pastry or sandwich is mysteriously delivered to you
you ask who its from. the person tells you they have no idea.
when missions get assigned, he never says anything but if he hears your name along with a dangerous request, he'll calmly volunteer "i'll accompany her."
you eventually realize that he remembers everything you mention in passing. like your favorite drink, the bakery you like to stop by after work, your favorite color.
if he sees another knight flirting with you, he just stares, no glare, no reaction. then walks over and says "we're needed" you aren't.
he just walks away, expecting you to follow and you do, always.
he checks everyones equipment before getting deployed. yours gets checked twice.
he personally patches your wounds if you get injured during an assignment and once he's sure youre okay,
"don't scare me like that again"
he's not the best at giving compliments. instead of saying a simple "you look pretty today." he'll say "you look well rested today" "huh?"
when he spars with you in the courtyard, he does not hold back. he blocks your spear strikes with heavy, punishing deflections. to the untrained eye, he looks ruthless. in reality, he is testing your reflexes to the absolute limit because he refuses to let you have a weak point.
walking down narrow, crowded streets of a human town on official business, he always positions himself on the side closer to the street traffic or the crowd subtly using his larger, frame to shield you from being bumped by strangers.
he has a strict rule about keeping his desk organized and entirely professional. yet, over time, a tiny, item you gave him—like a small trinket you picked up on patrol—finds a permanent home right next to his official seals.
he might not say it outright but vice captain easthies absolutely cares about you more than any other knight under his command.
Funny how I first discovered your channel via chapter 5 of the Weight of a Wishing Relic. Then kept checking your profile to see any post. I can gladly say I enjoy your posts!
