okay honestly i feel like Zenitsu from Demon Slayer got the same treatment as Jay from Ninjago.
Both were like kinda cowardly, but also funny and witty in their own ways, with their own flaws.
Plus we got to see their backstories which strengthened their characters as underdogs and how they still deserved a chance at greatness which i loved... and then after time they got boiled down to the bare bones "funny coward comedic relief character."
Like cmon theres so much more to zenitsu than being weird around girls (that is an awful flaw though, don't get me wrong, makes my skin crawl)! In S1 Ep. 17, we learn that his backstory with his grandfather is about not giving up on himself and honing what he could do even if he felt like a failure. And that's really heckin meaningful to me!! But then for the rest of the series (as far as i know- i havent watched some of the later seasons but thats being remedied as we speak lolol) he's nothing but the goofy side character who wants to go after Tanjirou's sister. Eugh.
He and Jay deserved so much more than being shunted to the sidelines in my opinion. Let their narratives be explored more!!!
