lightdash:
“Hmm…” Sonic yawns and busies himself by itching the inside of his ear, uninterested in Knuckles’ adamant demand to brawl.
“Vacation?” He asks, cracking open one eye to look at him. “No thanks! Who needs one when you’re constantly running around the world anyway?” A big stretch follows, and it’s… kind of a miracle that he doesn’t lose his balance. That pillar is not very big. “I can visit anywhere, anytime — including here.”
Sonic quickly sits upright with his legs crossed. “You know… if y’ want something from someone, you should try saying please.”
“I’m not in the business of asking trespassers nicely.” He scoffs, arms bunching at his chest.
While the statement may have been true, he didn’t view Sonic as a trespasser, as such. It would take an awful lot to get him to admit it, but the hedgehog’s company was often welcome -- as long as he wasn’t trailing danger behind him. The island, despite its many graces, was a lonely place; lingering ghosts and etched memories serving as Knuckles’ most reliable companions. A break in the form of his rival-turned-friend was a pleasant (but irritating) change of pace.
“...Just get down and tell me why you’re here. Knowing you, it’s trouble.”
