Introduction

Welcome to the Quantum Detective Agency where all the detectives are based on a given interpretation of quantum mechanics that try to connect the formalism to the physical world! This is just a repository for my OC work relating to this and I'll self-reblog my art and ramblings from my main. Additionally, you can send asks about my OCs ask-blog style here! I'm Elliot, I'm currently a philosophy undergrad student, and I really enjoy the philosophy of science particularly! Dr. Watanabe as a philosopher detective is SO fun to write because I just came up with the idea of them apprehending a criminal and they make reference to Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics about being "at the right time, on the right occasion, towards the right people, for the right purpose and in the right manner."

I should say that I tied in virtue ethics (both Aristotelian and Confucian) using archery imagery (see "The Mean, the Right and Archery" by Yu Jiyuan) to the arrow of time (which Dr. Watanabe is associated with due to having a thermodynamics motif and being a philosopher of time). One thing that's important to Quantum Detective Agency is that all of the detectives are trying to achieve their own version of the "good life" so that's the relevancy of virtue ethics for Watanabe, even though he won't necessarily reach eudaimonia or even fully adopt virtue ethics. His arc is just a big love letter to philosophy as a whole.

I like to infodump to myself in my Obsidian vault about my OCs or work on OC profiles on Toyhouse so a lot of my work is just delegated to private storage or on another site in these past few months...however, I promise you that Quantum Detective Agency has kept me very busy even if it doesn't seem like that is the case, especially with research. I am so fucking scared.

It is kind of not that hard to figure out a pivotal plot turning point for Quantum Detective Agency and it is literally just off site on a certain someone's toyhou.se profile, but I have an inclination to be mysterious for fun haha. HOWEVER, my silly quantum theory ship (GRW theory x Double Inferential State Vector Formalism which is represented by GRWata with my OCs) is after that pivotal turning point and I have actual lore for it...They both have a lot of issues personally which makes their relationship a bit unstable, but they get healthier as they heal. Due to the inclination to be mysterious, I can't infodump here, but OUGHHH...

Those theories got me shy and feeling like I walked in on something thinking about them. Now the Quantum Detective Agency followerbase knows I get shy and flustered over theories...However, I still think that it's really interesting how the GRW theory can constitute as a quantum arrow of time which coincides with how I've characterized the DIVF personification as a philosopher of time.

Quantum Detective Agency is quantum theory shipping propaganda, I believe in GRW x DIVF supremacy.

Dr. Watanabe's hair length keeps on increasing......I do have an Act 2 design in mind for him where their hair does get longer so they tie it up in a cute ponytail more often. Also, based on their toyhou.se page and checking when I first posted him, he has existed for nearly six months. I have been rather fixated on him as my most favorite character ever now. I love him very dearly as my fellow philosopher...

I keep my toyhou.se guest locked since I can get irrationally scared about certain people finding me, but I feel like my toyhou.se is the best repository for my OC stuff and I've been quite active there (especially forum games oops)...Hello if you are here from toyhou.se, I'm very happy to see you follow me here too.

I'd like to find a better alternative to store OC stuff for those who do not have toyhou.se, but go, rambling onto Tumblr.

Watanabe Yoshikatsu: Line art + style experimentation with a new brush

I really love this brush I recently got for free...thank you!! It was free for a limited time and is now paid, but if you also have Clip Studio Paint and would like to support the artist who made the brush, then I will link it here!

I wanted to find a line art style that was in closer proximity to traditional art since I feel like my art with outlines was too "sleek" and I feel like I work best with more traditional looking styles.

I named the university town Quantum Detective Agency primarily takes place in "Vector Space" and it is intentionally humorous....Can't take myself seriously. University of Vector Space.

I am debating on changing Watanabe's name like I did for Giang/GRW, BUT it would moreso be like giving him an actual given name since Watanabe is a surname (though weirdly used like a given name in Quantum Detective Agency). There is an actual lore reason for that, but it's still quite weird haha.

If I did give him a proper given name, then it would be Yoshikatsu (after another Japanese physicist Sugiura Yoshikatsu) so his full name would be Watanabe Yoshikatsu (in Eastern Naming order). I think he would usually be called Dr. Watanabe since he has a PhD so...not much would change actually. People would also want to be polite with him due to said PhD and refrain from calling him by given name even if he's the second youngest detective.

Quantum Detective Agency - Short Character Descriptions

Copenhagen - Copenhagen Interpretation

Copenhagen is the senior detective of the agency, known for his pragmatic "shut up and calculate" approach to cases.

GRW - Ghirardi–Rimini–Weber (GRW) Theory, Spontaneous Collapse Model

Giang, better known as GRW, thinks in different scales as he coalesces clues that initially seem infinitesimal into a depiction of the entire case.

Wigner - Consciousness Causes Collapse

Wigner can be considered a meditator, using her mind to rebuild cases from the foundation through thinking about how clues are derived from higher orders of perfection. (Author context: Wigner heavily draws from Descartes and his meditations as this interpretation is an explicitly mind-body dualist one)

Bohm - Bohmian Mechanics/Pilot Wave Theory

Bohm is a seemingly carefree individual, letting the tides of fate carry him to wherever he goes until he reaches the conclusion of a case.

Everett - Many-Worlds Interpretation

Everett, creative and compassionate, considers other possible worlds to better understand this one and they try to bring this world closer to the best possible world.

Zeh - Many-Minds Interpretation

Zeh is bold and theatrical, acting out cases as the perpetrator in order to determine their motives by getting into their minds.

Watanabe - Double Inferential State-Vector Formalism

Watanabe is a philosopher of physics, using their philosophy of time background in their method of investigation.

Q.B. - Quantum Bayesianism

Q.B., an artist who pursues personal catharsis, focuses on the subjective elements of a case over objective ones.

I need an easy to access and also spoiler-free way to loredump my characters without subjecting people to going through tags. I use toyhou.se for that (which I have my account not visible for guests for personal reasons), but let's just say that a certain someone's profile is walking spoilers and I have a weird mentality of "yeah I really want to surprise people and be mysterious for the tumblr people specifically."
