How to get better grades?
This post is going to be long so a cup of tea and a sofa maybe is highly recommended! ;)
A lot of you guys asked me about tips on how to improve grades in order to get into medical school but here I'll share with you what helped me along my journey and they are useful hacks whether you are a uni student, at college or even preparing for GCSE or taking A-levels. Regardless of what is your major or study system.
How to get better grades?
I'd like to break the tips into 5 categories.
First of all remember that nobody on this earth is perfect, otherwise they wouldn't be here! And when there are people who seem perfect it only means that they have been through a time where life hit them hard but instead of falling they just stood up, looked at the perfect life and said: Hey! You are mine!
HOW TO GET BETTER GRADES! This is a question that we students ask a lot but here I'll ask you another question! Do you really want good grades? Are you willing to improve your grades? (Which I'd say you are otherwise you won't be reading this post, right? XD)
So first things first is to want to improve your grades
Second thing is to be ready and willing to patiently climb the stairs step by step .
Most important thing in this category is to believe in yourself. Believe that you as a human being holds the power of nature and that will power is more than enough to make any dream come true...
Believe that you can do it before you do anything, because your power comes from believing. You believe it is possible you work for it. You think it is impossible you don't even try.
Just like Theodore Roosevelt said : '' Believe you can and you are half way there!.''
Once you have the will, patience and believing now where you can move to the next step!
Just remember that the greatest people in this world have the same 24 hours a day that we all have. So how come somebody is able to do so many tasks per day while others can not?! Simple! It is time management!
Here I'll put some tips on how to improve time management skills:
Don't wake up to your phone/social media. (I tried it, it is reaaally bad. Not recommended! Ever)
Make a to-do-list as soon as you wake up. Don't waste too much time doing nothing or overthinking in the morning! Get your glass of water and start putting everything into a piece of paper..use the 1,2,3 system and organize your thoughts before you do anything.
Give yourself breaks! Breaks are so so important to recharge your body and mind and here I'd recommend using a timer or a time tracker app that features the pomodoro Technique.
The pomodoro technique: It is a time management method developed by Francesco cirillo in the 1980s and it uses a timer to break down work into intervals. Usually work: 25 mins. Break: 5 mins (ofc you canchange it to your liking) this method helps so much especially when you are trying to get yourself into studying after a long pause. There are many timer that features that method but one of them (which I really really love) is productivity challenge timer (click to download it for free :))
Keep tracking your date! Get yourself a calender and feel your days one by one. That way you'll be able to feel just how much time we have during the day and then set your goals depending on that. Losing track of date promotes laziness and days blend together.
Enjoy! Give yourself some time to do what you enjoy during the week/day (drawing, swimming...etc etc) doing that would make you less bored and would help you get rid of stress and pressure.
Now this one is really interesting, because I personally haven't realized its importance until I tried it myself.
Get yourself a desk (a table and a chair) or any space that you feel comfortable in and turn it into your own study world! It is the place where you are going to set and work for goals that might change your life forever.
Tidy your study place at the end of every session. (Believe me a messy desk doesn't really attract you to use it! )
Fill your study place with things that motivate you: Quotes, pictures, your monthly goals, your fav flower!! It is not EVER wrong to put some effort into decorating your desk to your liking. Because you're going to spend so much time there (esp during exams) and it is always lovely and refreshing to decorate it.
Call it silly but pens, notebooks and new pencils are so attractive to use and it can help you to get into note taking and then slowly books then into studying more!
Surround yourself with people who have the same passion as you, with people who are ready to exchange knowledge with you. Who are willing to discussplans and productivity with you, who want to improve with you every single day.
Surround yourself with positive people whether on social media or in real life. Watch people who teach you how to do it not how much you can't do it. Who tell you to get up once you fall not it is over once you fall.
Read motivating quotes, books or even listen to motivational videos on youtube
Print out your fav quote and put it in a place where you can see it as often as possible. (If you are a foodie like me well hang it in the kitchen XD)
Study blogs and study with me are so helpful! As it get lonely during a study session you can always turn on a study with me video! And here I recommend this amazing channel
Be healthy! Studying was never about losing your health but instead improving your health to improve your focus and mind. Eat enough throughout the day, drink healthy juice. Exercises and stretches between sessions. Get enough sleep every day.
The art of discipline means to stick to your goals and tasks. It Means to study every single day. But how can one master the art of discipline? The answer is simply by following the previous tips!
Improving your study space + time management+ enjoying the process while believing in yourself = the will to do that every single day = discipline!
That's how you get a human being into doing something. Nothing comes by forcing yourself let along learning! Even if it worked it wouldn't last. Let love guide you into doing what you want to do. Because then you'd be so powerful and able.
One last hack is to have a daily minimum (1 hour for example) and never get back on it. Once you pass it increase the minimum and so on..
Making this post did really take some time tho. But I really wanted to share as many useful things as I can. I hope you find it useful and if you have any question for me, recommendations, tips or anything please let me know :)
You guys mean a lot and I am sending you so much love and support.
If you want it, like reallt? You'll find a way. But if you don't you'll find an excuse. Ralf Smart.
