Hello, My name is Nakiyah I attend Full Sail University majoring in Entertainment Business. I am an aspiring Casting Director with a pure passion for raw talent, and all for saving troubled youth. Final Project-Business Plan

Final Project Business plan tied up the loose ends to the business plan course, they were both very challenging and I did learn a lot from both courses. What’s a challenge if knowledge isn’t gained?  Reflecting back on my mastery journal I accomplished exactly what I set out to do and that was build my final business plan. In this course I have acquired the knowledge to fully develop and enhance my business plan along with the pro forma income statement. I have learned how to create, plan, and reach out to potential investors. Not only in this class but the other courses prior to this one also contributed to my knowledge on entertainment and business. For this particular course I definitely enjoyed the discussion boards, elevator pitch assignments, and building upon my business plan. Full Sail taught me that I myself am able to start a journey and finish it, despite the mishaps that come with life. When I put my mind to something I most definitely can and will accomplish it. I will use all tools given to us such as SBA, and books received from school to not only use to build the business but also use as helping resources. I will also take any and all advice given from professors and classmates and edit my business plan accordingly. Full Sail was a long exciting journey that went by super quick and it is bitter sweet. I will be using the pro-forma income statement again as well. I’m very grateful that I got to attend Full Sail and put my newly gained skills to work. I also love the fact that we were able to create a website via Wix also known as our Digital Leadership Portfolio because that gives us a place were we can showcase our works, and show how we have grown in our selected fields.

BPD MASTERY JOURANAL

My original goal for this course was to learn how to develop a strategic business plan that was effective, along with combining two fields together, and making sure my plan is suitable for real life. Although this course was challenging and generally not my favorite my goals were met. I have learned to create and write business content that is suitable for my future business. The plan I have written is also suitable for the real world. I have also combined two fields creating my hybrid business that I needed and wanted. The only thing left to do is to modify and edit the business plan according to the instructor’s notes placed on to my original copy. I know this was not my favorite course, but this course is well needed because it teaches you the content needed for a successful plan. My favorite part about this course was the discussion board. This is because the discussions for this course were enlightening and encouraging having to do with Jayson Whitemore’s interviews and the advice he offered. It is also because he is a business professional and was once in our shoes as soon to be graduating students so he is able to relate from a students standpoint, along with a profession view from the entertainment business. I also enjoyed the discussion board because it was more like a discussion and less like the general feedback we would give in other courses. I will continue to perfect and protect my business plan, along with killing any fear and doubts I may have inside my head. It is important to take a leap of faith, rather than let fear kill your dream. I rather see what I may do wrong with my business (hopefully not a lot will go wrong) so I can correct those wrongs and have a fierce comeback after that. Thank you for a great course.

Distribution Mastery Post

For our entertainment distribution I honestly did not know what to expect from this course. Of course I expected to learn about distribution, but did not know if it would pertain to distribution through media, packaging your product, but it caught me by surprise. This course has taught a lot about how to distribute and publish your work of art whether it was a script, book, game, and music. Went into depth on where and how to do it, what to look for, and what type of publisher you may need for your project. Goals that were met during this course were learning how to distribute a product or service and who to contact regarding distribution, I have also learned what media outlets to use to distribute a product depending on what distribution channel(s) is more effective. I can use what I have learned in this course in various. I think it is a blessing to have numerous templates provided by this course instructor. The templates provided can be used and applied in the real world for projects. It makes me happy because my aunt is in the middle of writing a book, and she can easily take and use the template provided for her book, not to mention on vacation, we have networked with a publisher and a group of amazing authors as well. I am beyond grateful for this course and the challenges it has provided. I have gained a deeper understand of how to publish and market a book, a script for a movie as well. I also like this class because it made me dig deeper into my creative ways for week two assignment, I was under the impression that we would have to write some sort of creative content if we chose a book. I did exactly that I wrote a few poems for the sample portion of the assignment, and now I just have these creative pieces.

AEL Mastery Journal

To start things off I really enjoyed this Advanced Entertainment Law. I love law courses and going into depth of law and gaining a deeper understanding. This class was fun and exciting including all assignments. It may be because I am a bit noisy and in this course we dived deeper into actual cases, which I really enjoyed. I also enjoyed figuring out what may have been problematic within the manager contract discussion and the discussion based on the competition. This so far was one of my favorite courses within Full Sail. I love what I also learned and retained within this course as well. I found it very helpful that this course dove into copyrighting laws, and how to register a business. I have been trying to learn on my own so I was quite familiar with the USPTO.GOV site. I have done ton of research regarding copyright laws. A few things I wish the course would have dug further into are employee rules, guidelines, and regulations. I wish there was a project reflecting your business rules, and a mock employee handbook. I think that would have been helpful within this course. It would have taught us how, what to write, and what content to include in the handbook. Although the final project was a slight glimpse because it was based on how to avoid liability based on a industry problem that connects to your career or industry path. Once again it was a very fun course for me and I totally enjoyed it and it’s challenges. I also like the fact that for me it allowed me to create a solution for industry problems such as sexual assault in the entertainment field. Most times than not a sexual assault in this field goes unnoticed because the victim doesn’t speak on it based on fears, and judgment, and feeling at fault. I hope one day my solution will work, and will be enforced in other fields, and establishments. Thank you AEL for such an amazing course! Thank you for reading.

Product & Artist Management

This class was very informative. It was full of great lessons that can be applied to real life scenarios, such as managing an artist and what to do and not to do. I think my favorite assignment from this course might’ve been week 2’s when we had to analyze a manager and an artist they’ve managed. I really enjoyed this assignment because it teaches you how to treat an artist but also how to balance out all of the footwork the manager has to do to satisfy and appease their client. What is most intriguing to me is the fact that artist managers never intend to manage artists the opportunity just falls in their lap, and they’re either great at it, learn from their mistakes to become a better artist manager, or not really great at all. If I personally had to choose a career between an artist or product manager, I would choose an artist manager as a career. I enjoy challenges and I love working hard and putting a project together and watching the outcome of that project, because what went into that project is blood, sweat, tears, and outstanding dedication. To watch everything come together either as expected or more than what your expectations were is an amazing feeling. To be proud of yourself and your team and to celebrate a successful night/tour is even better. I know artist managers also bond with their artists and create boundaries along with respect to build an unbreakable bond is also amazing. As an artist manager you get to watch your artist grow if they choose to keep you around vice versa. Managing an artist is like watching a plant grow after you have planted a seed and nurtured that seed. I can also take principles applied from this class as well and apply them to my career such as narrow casting because I can funnel out anyone that isn’t apart of my primary target audience. Negotiation and Deal Making Reflection Post

Thus far in this course I’ve gained a deeper understanding of negotiation and deal making. I have learned that it is not only about agreeing on the deal but agreeing and negotiating down the best deal and taking advantage of the negotiation process. It is very important that both parties let it be known what their underlying interests are and how to get the ultimate deal. I have also learned that when writing contracts it is important to of course comply with the law along with being as descriptive and detail oriented as possible along with reading, and negotiating on a contract as well or asking if a clause can be edited or removed if the signing party does not agree with that specific clause or part of the contract. In a negation it is important to let your voice be heard but do not be over opinionated within the deal. It is important to go into the negotiation with an open mind and understanding that you may walk out the deal with a little less or a little more of what you originally bargained for. I also learned if you made a deal with someone it is usually cheaper to keep that deal other wise it can possibly cost you millions in the end. I do have to say according to my timeline everything adds up with what I wanted to learn and did learn in this class. I have learned how to make the ultimate deal or get the most out of a deal, and if not have a backup plan in order to do so, I have learned how to gain effective negotiation techniques, and putting emotions to the side. The only thing I hope to learn in this course or towards the end of this course is how to write an effective contract, although I have gained some insight throughout this course.

Entertainment Business Finance

This class was a challenge, but very informative. I have learned how to research and find the necessary expenses prior to opening a business. Along with maintaining and learning what finances will be recurring. I’ve learned how to predict the total expense of a business along with finding the break-even point for a business. I am no genius in math at all, I am happy to say once it’s time to open the business I will be sure to hire my human calculator also known as an accountant. This class has helped my reach my goal with my Mastery Timeline for this course because I have learned how to develop a budget/finance plan in Excel, and I also plan on saving and using the pro-forma template in the future as well. I believe that is a great tool to have because everything you need for a business is listed on their and only thing a person needs to do is research on necessary items and services that pertains to their company or services offered. I plan on using the tools and knowledge taught in this course not only for this business, but also implement it for other small business I may want to develop. Although I have taken this class before, I’m glad to say I have made major progress in this course throughout these last past four weeks, and did better than I did when I previously took the course (although that was the goal). I also feel like I can use the break even method professionally when it comes to the spoken word talent showcases by keeping track of how much I spend to make the shows happen, and keeping track of how many guests arrive and many tickets and vending spots were sold. Taking this class was very beneficial and taught me well. Thank you!

Digital Market Goals

Original goals for this course was to learn how to better promote my company on digital platforms, gain customers, and develop a strong online presence. Strategies to do so were to create social media pages for my business, offer trial services and manage and develop online campaigns. I am honestly shocked because I did reach more than one goal with this course I learned how to reach all 3 goals along with strategies too. It amazes me how with guidance you are able to learn, set, and reach beyond tour original goals. My goals were met by attending this course because it provided guidance on how to accomplish my goals. It taught me that you have to gain a better sense of self, and your business to tie the ends together because a business is a reflection of you. You have to be able to relate to your business along with the target audience. You have to be passionate enough to promote and in a sense chase consumers and show them that you business is effective by offering discounts and promotions. This class also had its challenges. I feel like without a challenge you aren’t really able to learn. An individual must challenge them self to gain a deeper understanding and to learn how something works. If there isn’t any pain then there isn’t any gain this goes for knowledge too. For example my website on WIX, I thought I did an amazing job however a classmate rated 3.5/5 I wasn’t disappointed but knew I had to and will do better by editing my website. They sought errors that I wouldn’t have thought were errors until I read their feedback in a sense I failed because it’s not a perfect 5/5. That’s okay though because in life comes trial and error, as long as I edit and get a second opinion from someone on the website that will not only make the website better but also make me better. Entertainment Business Finance

Entertainment Business Finance has taught me a lot. This class has been very challenging for me. However I’ve learned how to conduct proper calculations and short cuts for things such as financial ratios, calculating money using interest formulas, fortunately shortcuts were provided. Some interest formulas include Future Value Of Money, Future Value Of Annuity, Present Value of Money, and present value of annuity. I found this class to be helpful and once again challenging. That is because I’ve never been too good in math as a whole has always challenged me. Another lesson I’ve learned while taking this course is when to know a company has broken even with the break even point is when the company’s revenues are no longer even and hit 0, then they will incur positive income. I also learned that when creating or adding to a business model we need to add all expenses. Even expenses that seem like they should automatically be there that we forget to add, such as electricity, and utilities. Those are important especially electricity it’s easily forgotten that, that has to be paid for prior to opening business doors to public. Business needs to be ready for business prior to when it opens. I’ve learned to make a list of all expenses, even now I have one that I keep adding to because things can be easily forgotten such as office supplies, of course we remember major things such as desks, computer and printers, but how about sticky notes, note books, pens. Those supplies are just as important as big huge supplies that can be seen. If I haven’t learned anything else from this class I’ve learned all details are important and everything must be properly calculated and accounted for when developing a business plan and when opening the business. I can use some lessons or strategies learned by over looking the financial aspect of things in my business after the accountant has done their job, just to check numbers and see if things look accurate.

Brand development & Story Telling

I have to say, the business development and story telling so far has been my favorite course. I can honestly say this course has helped me better identify my personal brand and company. Throughout this course and my remaining time at Full Sail University I can say I will continue to edit and better the brand identity, and the business model canvas for my brand to better it. I learned how to build upon a meaningful brand, I’ve learned how to apply consumer relationship to a brand, and how to explain what they should or would expect from a company.  I didn’t know what to expect from this class however, just from the course name it’s self I knew I would enjoy it. I knew the class work and course would be fun because who wouldn’t want to continuously develop their brand and the story behind their brand. This course was definitely useful in every way. I also loved for the week threes assignment I was able to go back and use work I did from my undergraduate class that came from my market analysis. That was fun too. I would’ve never thought I would need to use my own work as a reference to cite information from myself. A minor goal I had for this course was to gain new knowledge and learn how to apply in this class along with applying to my personal life and business. I can also apply knowledge gained to my monthly spoken word and talent showcase events. In aspects such as what do we offer the consumers or how can consumers relate to the show, or performers. Being able to relate to a company and brand is what connect consumers to that product, whether it may be the style of the product, how the staff treats the customers, or more. It’s bitter sweet that this course has came to an end because I really enjoyed this course.

Project & Team Management

This particular class taught me how to effectively manage and plan for a project. All though I’ve been working on my month to month projects consecutively I’ve learned how to effectively plan, communicate, and hone my skills. This class also taught me what my strengths are with the personality tests, and truth be told they were pretty accurate. I will continue to use the template from this class for future projects so everyone can have an understanding as of what their tasks are, when deadlines are, and what they supposed to do. The templates are an effective guide as well.

Leadership

I feel as though I can relate more towards Maxwell as a leader. I think he is the most relatable because I love his tactics and exercises within the book. Not only does he make or suggest the leader does exercises within a leaders team, but it is also very important for the leader themselves to also participate and do a self evaluation to make sure the leader is and can be the effective leader that their followers need. In the book, Maxwell tends to state numerous of times, as a leader you have to be willing to change, without change your success can only last but for so long because companies around you and in your field will take the opportunity of changing and basically replacing your company if your not willing to change. I can also relate to that, it is very important to learn how to adapt and conform to new trends, especially in today’s world because the world around us is constantly changing. Everything also includes technology a lot of companies use technology this is something that is forever evolving if companies aren’t able to change and incorporate the latest technology or software’s the success may die down. Maxwell also is relatable to my personality because he states that you have to appreciate people, your employees and customers. This is very important because employees honestly help and make daily task run smoothly almost error free, where as the customer buys into those products or services. Showing appreciation will make your employees love you as a leader and continue to motivate them and do their job effectively and efficiently, this will help provide and grow your customers. People are a great asset to you and your company. These qualities and more can and will help me become the great leader I need to be in order to be an entrepreneur. I will be able to successfully mold and grow my team, along with leading the youth, and networking with other businesses. I learned how to complete great team exercises from Maxwell along with self-evaluation exercises.
