Got a reply on one of posts from a fanboy about howĀ ādiversity shouldnāt be forcedā in pop-culture and wellā¦ any time society is changing itās ALWAYS forced.Ā When Jack Kirby and Stan Lee created their first Black superhero they had the Black Panther guest-star in Fantastic Four.Ā Why? Because when Dell Comics tried to publish a western series with a Black lead called Lobo distributors in the South refused to carry the title. So by putting the Black Panther in one of their top selling books Marvel effectively forced the distributors hand. Similarly in 1986 when Aerosmith collaborated with Run DMC on a new version of āWalk This Wayā Radio was largely segregated into all-White Rock stations and Black Hip-Hop/R&B Stations.Ā By combining one of the hottest Rap groups in the country with an in-demand rock group by Aerosmith Columbia records basically forced Black music onto All White Stations.Ā On a similar note in 1982 CBS Records threatened to pull of artists from MTV because the station had refused to play Michael Jackson videos. CBS had to strongarm MTV into airing Jackonās music because they thoughtĀ āThe King of Popā wouldnāt appeal to white pop music fans.
I could go on with other examples.Ā Ellen DeGeneres coming out on her ABC sitcom, Star Trek having the first interracial kiss, etc. And thatās why it fucking pisses me off to hear people my age complaining aboutĀ āForced Diversity,āĀ āPolitical Correctness,ā āSJW politics,ā andĀ āIdentity Politicsā in pop culture.Ā Theyāre basically the modern-day version of Baby Boomers ranting about Hip-Hop. Ā
Not to mention they always couch their complaints by saying āoh, I just donāt want poorly written characters put in just for the sake of diversity, if it was well written I wouldnāt mind!ā
Yet,
They do not make the same complaints about poorly written straight white cis dude characters,
Their criticism never comes with specifics, only vague āitās tokenism!ā, and
They never point out and celebrate well written diverse characters when they are presented to them, and they still treat such characters with disdain.

since i posted that thing yesterday lamenting the lack of direct action iāve seen in the news regarding the ICE child prisons, hereās an update on two great things that happened today carried out by activistsĀ
protestors in portland are camping out round the clock outside of the portland ICE headquarters (this technically began yesterday but has picked up even more steam today). Theyāve formed tent camps around the headquarters and have been blocking the entrances to ICE offices to obstruct operations and keep employees from coming and going. At 6pm tonight (june 19) the portland DSA reported that one of the ICE offices where they were protesting was closed, for reasons apparently related to the protests

also tonight in d.c., metro d.c. DSA members protested inside of a mexican restaurant where homeland security secretary kirstjen nielsen was eating dinner and forced her to leave. You can watch the full video here.Ā Ā DSA members on twitter said that the majority of the other customers in the restaurant were supportive and cheered and high-fived them as they left.Ā

I find this really hard to believe, as every time Iām interested in a girl she ends up with an asshole and I end up friendzoned or worse.

Summer means poor children are not getting 2 free meals a day at school so if youāre able, please consider donating to your local food bank.
Until September 2nd, if youāre under 18, you can receive free lunch at public library branches in NYC (proof of age shouldnāt be required), and from trucks at certain locations around the city. Some schools should be open and providing them, too!!
