Note: ”Cut-Sleeve” 斷袖 was used as both noun and adjective in this novel to represent the word homosexual.  It came from an actual incident of a real Chinese emperor who once cut his sleeve off in the morning just to not wake his male lover who held on to that sleeve in his sleep. 

….but why so dramatic? How hard was it to just take that robe off, leave it there for you lover and wear another one to morning meeting??  You just ruined a fine robe for nothing…dumb emperor :U
