words honestly cannot express how upset I am to be on this blog so rarely. neal’s probably my favorite muse of all time, and I never regret disappearing and hiatus’ing more than I do when it’s on neal. I’ve had a monumentally difficult time regaining my muse & ability to write here, but I miss him too much to leave forever. so I’m going to try something I didn’t think I’d do on Neal – rebooting!

sometimes you just need a jolt of something new to reawaken your desire and energy to write. it’s harder than I thought it would be to leave this account behind, even though it will remain up, name unchanged for archiving purposes. I have almost a year and a half of memories and threads and writing on here, and I love having that kind of depth and history with a blog. but! my desire to write neal is stronger than my nostalgia, so – it’s time for a new start! if you’re willing to give us another shot, I’ll be here:

When he speaks, his tone is all carefully constructed ease, an almost  marbled nonchalance that’s been a more faithful companion than any  over the years. ( The irony does not fail to amuse him, in a sad way, at  how he’s known for precisely the opposite. )

Alanna looked up at him, squinting her famous purple eyes, scrutinizing. “No, squire saucebox, I do not require more detail.” She liked Nealan, he reminded her a little of George with his sass. “I thought to go for a ride to the village.” They were in her home of Pirate’s Swoop for a few days, and Alanna disliked sitting still longer than she had to. 

Neal tries very hard not to shrink under her iron tipped gaze, standing as firm  as he ever does when masking his nerves until she breaks the silence. That’s  when relief hits, heady and as wonderful as it is frustrating and an insouciant  grin touches his lips. 

❛ My Lady is kind and trusting as ever, then. ❜ Yes, he is absolutely pushing  his luck, but nothing feels like solid ground as being as much of an ass as he  can without skirting the edge of getting himself hacked into bits in retribution.  It’s probably ill adaptive for him to enjoy that particular game to the extent that  he does. 

Her instructions (or, at least, her statement that still, somehow, sounds like an  order to his ears) don’t surprise him very much. There’s little that can keep the  Lioness sitting still for very long; which is fine by him -- moving doesn’t bother  him nearly as much as he claims it does. 

❛ So we’re healing again today? ❜ The question is asked mildly, stripped of his  usual level of snark. Even he is capable of only so much irreverence, and he  truly does not mind that aspect of his training in the slightest. The conclusion,  then, is a logical one.

Precision and control are two things that Neal has in abundance --  as wild as his moods can swing (according, of course, to unreliable  sources) he’s not as out of touch as some might have you believe. In  his line of work, you can’t afford to be anything but controlled, delicate,  and collected. He’s trained his gift enough to follow the same guidelines  that he will if, and when, he ever achieves doctoral status. 

          None of that, however, accounts for the instinctive, magical-ish            urge to examine any and all maladies in his immediate vicinity. 

Neal withdraws his hand as though from fire, confusion and frustration  flashing across his features until he schools them into the predictable,  expected churlishness he’s become known for.

He tenses (is he always going flinch at the unexpected, or is this a phenomenon limited to the sharp edges of his knight mistress?), but his mind is quicker to recover than his face and he’s already rifling through a dossier of medical knowledge to parse out a list of symptoms before he can entirely wipe the startled expression away. 

❛ -- Congestion of the head and chest, irritation of the throat, difficulties in drawing breath, headaches, fatigue, dizziness, drowsiness, and sensitivity of the skin resulting in rashes. Those are a whole domain unto themselves. Need I list them in more detail, My Lady? ❜

By the end, he’s recovered enough to affect his usual demeanor of irreverent casualness. It’s not a very wise decision, to be so wry in the presence of the Lioness, but Neal very rarely does the wise thing anyway.

Okay so !! My poor Neal, I abandon me so often. Sorry about that, buddy! Jobs & grad school apps have been eating me alive. Almost literally ;-; But I’m never too far from Neal, so I’ll be here! 

I know I have drafts from ages ago. Again, I’m super sorry! I’ll definitely get to them -- but if they’re too old and you’ve lost the muse, don’t worry about it! No pressure to reply! 

I’ll be gone until friday or so (seeing a show & crashing with a friend in new york), so I’ll be back then!
