Is It Time?

Emmy heard rustling from the tent and wondered what Esteria was up to but it wasn’t long before she saw the girl walking quickly towards her, bowl in hand. Emmy continued washing herself off as she watched the girl start to clean up her bloodied gown, the blood pooling around Esteria causing flashbacks to come. Everene.
Esteria looked kind of like Everene in this instance, had the little girl been able to reach 13, blood around her, she could remember the smell of death. Emmy clutched at her chest as the pain emerged. It had been years but the memories still came, mostly at night though. It was almost as if her mind switched, Vayne emerging as if to protect her from the memories.
“Stop it Esteria. Put that down and get out! You needn’t worry yourself with what I do” Vayne said walking towards her through the water. She grabbed the dress and pulled it from Esterias hands.
“I protect you because I care about you. Going out there with me will only put yourself in danger and I have worked hard to make sure that you’ve never been put into harms way so why would I change all of that now?” She didn’t mean to sound harsh but as the words left her mouth she could tell they were said with steel.

As the dress was pulled from her hands droplets of blood were flung onto Esteria’s face and chest, which began to mix with the tears that had started trickling down her face. She felt heat grow from the tips of her fingers to the ends of her hair. She knew if she kept this up she knew he would come soon and take over but she swore she would not let him, not in front of Emmy and definitely not in front of this second version of her. She buried her face in her hands using the cold blood that coated them to calm her down. After a few short breaths she took them away, letting the few remaining tears to stream down her face and make paths in the blood handprints that marked her pale skin.
“Am I not allowed to care for you because you’re afraid of what might happen to me; I can’t even remember the people I’ve lost. You are my entire world and I can’t stand the feeling of not knowing you’ll come home!” Esteria spoke in a voice so void of any emotion, completely betraying what was going on inside her head. “If you continue forcing me to relive this grief every time I don’t know how much longer I can stay here.” With the last sentence Esteria turned and walked into the darkening forest as the sun began setting, ignoring the yelling from behind her.

The motherly instinct in her wanted to reach out and hug her. Tell her everything was going to be okay. She had never really made her cry before, not like this at least. How could she ask this of her? Though it made sense, Emmy never really talked about her past. After she had pulled the dress away blood splashed onto Esteria’s face. Her own blood. She did this. Vayne thought differently though; How dare she speak this way to her, after all she had done for her, she could have left her there to die, something in her told her that might have been a better idea long ago but after loosing her child she felt a connection to this one. They have both lost so many.
The words cut into her like knives. Leave? Did Esteria threaten to leave? How could she? Emotions flooded through her and she hardly knew what to say. She watched as Esteria rushed off. “YOU ARE ALLOWED TO CARE ESTERIA BUT YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY PERSON WHO HAS LOST SOMEONE DEAR TO YOU” she yelled back, though Esteria just kept on walking away. “YOU CANT JUST THREATEN TO LEAVE ME, WHERE WOULD YOU EVEN GO? YOU KNOW NOTHING OF THIS WORLD” she felt regret slightly for yelling, but how could she understand. Maybe it was time to tell her the truth. She was 13 now, practically a young lady. Though she would never know the mannerisms of one, she wasn’t raised by humans, but rather a vengeful Faery. Would she have been better off raised by someone else? Or would the same catastrophe follow her?
She finished wiping herself off, some blood still in her hair as she walked to the clothing line that held another garment. Putting it on she thought about what she had said and it was true. How could she let her sit here waiting? What if one day she didn’t come back, Esteria would know how to live off the land but not know the dangers of others. Not know how to take care of herself against attackers. She didn’t know how to fight and it seems as though that might be neglectful. Emmy did put her in danger by going after evil. Who knew it would take this to make her realize she isn’t a little girl anymore?
She could feel Vayne leave her as the anger settled and she took a deep breath and started walking into the woods. She couldn't tell exactly where she had gone but felt a presence of a being. Should she leave her be? No, she needed to talk to her, needed to apologize. Emmy called out for her, “Esteria? Darling! Please come back, I’m sorry!” she called out, hoping that she would hear her.
