When the author describes a character’s appearance way too late and you have to quickly redesign the image you already have for them in your head:

This is why if you want people to know your character has long raven-black hair with red streaks and eyes like limpid tears, you need to make sure you say so in your first paragraph. Christ. Imagine someone thinking your character’s a prep.

My friend em (aka merlinoutofcontext and emryses on AO3) just posted the final chapter to their awesome fic that I drew this for. She has done such a great job with the fic and I’m happy to be a part of it even in a small way💖 If it sounds like your cup of tea do give it a read. I can honestly say it has become one of my favourite fics and I can’t recommend it enough

I hate that whenever Merlin is really sad and depressed it’s almost always over Arthurs inevitable death and every single time Arthur appears by his side and is like “I have no idea what’s troubling you but just know that I’m your friend and I care about you and I’m always here to help”. And Merlin has to accept that this is the person they’re going to take away from him

#fun!!!!#love when destiny is the shadow of untold horror looming on the horizon!!!#and that merlin is the only one who sees it!!!#what makes this worse is that merlin never accepts that destiny would take arthur from him#i don’t think he even really considers it a possibility - not because he doesn’t think destiny would allow it to happen#but because he can’t imagine living a fulfilled life without arthur#and the destiny set out for them ‘arthur will be the the once and future king and unite the lands of albion’ certainly implies fulfilment#he just wanted to be by arthur’s side#the tragedy is twofold because merlin *sees* the spectre of destiny ahead of them on the path he leads arthur down + bears the weight of it#but he’s completely blindsided by the unimaginable happening because merlin did never - could never - consider it#all because destiny never counted on merlin caring for arthur over anything and everything else#even destiny (tags via @inkmyth)
