thank you, I really needed to see this blog ❤️❤️❤️ I've been feeling crappy because I broke my fast early today, I have a fainting disorder and I had to eat something to raise my BP because I was on the verge of passing out. I know it's OK because I have a health reason, but I still feel bad, but this blog helped me feel better. It's OK if you can't fast for Ramadan - Allah loves you anyways, and He wouldn't want you to hurt yourself trying.

Blogs like this inspire me to finally convert time Islam. It’s something I’ve been wanting ti do ever sense I fist formed in the system. I just feel bad. I won’t be able to properly worship Allah because I’m the one one in the system who believes in Islam. I think that and me being queer are wants currently holding me back from converting.

folks who have to pray with a youtube video of someone praying on to do it right, you are loved

muslims with bad memory, you are loved

muslims with did/osdd who have non muslim alters that don’t pray (or don’t know how/forget to pray), you are loved

muslims who can’t get onto the floor or get up off the floor, you are loved

muslims who need a cane/walker/arm crutch to stand, you are loved

chronically ill muslims who sometimes can’t pray or fast, you are loved

muslims who sometimes can’t pray due to islamophobia in their own house, you are loved

every muslim who struggles to pray every day, 5 times a day, you are loved!

sometimes your body is against you, that’s okay. sometimes it seems like the world is against you, and that’s okay! Allah knows your intentions, he knows you don’t purposefully skip prayer, or do it wrong. no muslim is perfect, a perfect muslim doesn’t exist.

you are loved, and you are seen. Allah sees you, he loves you. I see you, and i have a special place in my heart for you. keep doing your best!

I wish people with developmental and intelectual disabilities weren't denied religion and spirituality so often. So many of us are accused of only practicing religion because we were manipulated into it by a neurotypical person. Or people say if we can't actually understand everything about religion we don't deserve to be a part of it. Some people get very very uncomfortable when intellectually and developmentally disabled people talk about being religious. They subconsciously see us as more likely to be a hateful religious extremist. They can't imagine that we would ever have the agency to decide religion for ourselves and not be hateful or regressive. They can't imagine someone with an intelectual or developmental disability choosing to wear a veil or choosing to convert to another religion or choosing how they want to practice. But spirituality is part of the human experience and people with significant cognitive disabilities can and will be religious! We can believe in a higher power! We can believe in an afterlife or reincarnation! We can do spirit work and witchcraft! We can go to temples and houses of worship and pray alongside the rest of you! We're not naive for having spiritual beliefs , we're not being coerced . Some of us won't understand everything about religion or maybe nothing at all but if we find community and fun holidays and routine in religion , we still deserve to have it. Just let us practice freely !!

It can feel so isolating when you can't even practice the five pillars the same way most people do but we need to remember there are always exceptions and accomodations for the disabled.
