Please Help us Survive the Summer

Hi there again. I'm Casi. I'm a disabled Enby who is the only caregiver for my elderly disabled mother, and we're Homeless.

Mom is 70yrs old and has chronic bronchitis and arthritis and Mobility issues, and I'm chronically ill and multiply disabled myself. Where we live has already had multiple days of 105°F (40°C) temperatures throughout the Spring, its gonna be a hot summer. We cannot be on the Streets.

I have us in a Hotel because its the safest option for us. We have no family that can put us up for even a night and while I'm always on the lookout for outreach groups and programs we might qualify for, at this point we're on our own.[ and incredibly grateful for all the kind and generous support to help us through]

But the rates have gone up to Summer Prices which will make things a little more difficult than they already are. The Current rate is $98.30 a day / $688.03 a Week.

Moms Social Security is our only stable income apart from donations and my Redbubble and Ko-Fi shops where I sell my art. I've been looking for stable work but its always been a joke that there "more people than jobs" in this town and that's even truer now than ever, and without any transportation I can't even do Odd Jobs or Gigwork.[cant doordash on foot, can't to yardwork on the other side of town if I cant get myself there and back safely etc...]

Moms income will only cover 12 days of the month, and that's without putting any of that towards Meds or Groceries. We do get $290 SNAP/Food Stamps, on the 9th, but with the prices of everything between absofuckinglutly ridiculous, that too, only goes so far.

Literally Any Amount of Help would be incredibly appreciated. Really and Truly.

It's because the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence is this July, and while most of us would rather chew glass than engage in patriotism this year of all years, well--the corps are hoping that going RAH RAH PATRIOTISM will at least make the MAGA crowd buy extra shit for the event. Happens every 25-50 years, but this particular cycle makes me personally want to vomit every time I see it.

It’s the quid pro quo dollars at work. That “proud partner of america 250” logo tells you that money changed hands between these auto makers and the US government’s marketing department, who would have dictated how these advertisements should be made. Stellantis and Ford are courting them to skirt around tariffs/fines/etc since US vehicle manufacturing has largely been outsourced and bringing it back domestically is hugely expensive short and long term. That these ads are likely also appealing to their target demographic is the cherry on top for them.

By definition you can't accidentally queerbait. Queerbaiting is specifically using a same sex pair from the show to market the show to queer audiences with no intention of ever following through on a romantic relationship.

There is officially licensed Destiel merch signed off on by Kripke. Teen Wolf had a commercial with the actors for Derek and Stiles draped over each other talking about being "on a ship." Both shows actively used scenes between them as marketing while actively mocking fans for wanting them together. Sherlock has multiple characters refer to Johnlock as a couple, including characters we're supposed to believe are never wrong about human behavior and pushed those scenes in marketing. Then they acted insulted when fans saw them as a couple.

That's queerbaiting.

Done on accident it would just be queer subtext. Done because they had no other choice due to censorship is queer coding.

The specific meaning of the word is really starting to get lost and it's a pretty important one to keep accurate. It describes a very specific phenomenon that was done repeatedly and maliciously for decades and is meant to examine that specifically.

Doing it on accident sucks, but it isn't a tactic of capitalism intentionally intended to suppress queer representation while making money from queer fans.

I saw a video today from a chronically ill woman about the fact you can feel so guilty when doing fun things.

She talks about how, as a kid, you learn to finish work before you can play and that you take this with you into adulthood. So you keep the mindset of having to finish 'have to' tasks/chores before being allowed to 'play'.

But when you're chronically ill, this is literally impossible! If you'd do that it would be all work and never play. That wouldn't be healthy at all. We need to remind ourselves of this. We don't need to feel guilty for doing something fun!
