“Right...I’m sure the poor girl is downright terrifying..which is why that little smirk is on your face...” He poked his cheek. “Admit it...you are happy she found you. It means she cares.”

He gave the other man a disapproving look at his impressed tone “It’s like she’s a bloody blood hound. And you know she’ll want to meet you so watch out.”

“Well we do have enhanced senses. She probably followed the scent of your grumpiness all the way here.”

She nodded “And you can print me one whilst you’re at it” She tried to rein in her sarcasm when she added “I’m sure that idea will take you a long way” but she wasn’t 100% successful

“Geeze girl...” He laughed, “put that sarcasm away before you give me a complex.”

He considered that a moment. “Hmm...I wonder what kind of complex I could get....it’s been quite a few centuries since my last one.”

Her eyes became daggers, but she remained silent. It was never going to happen.

“So tigers are out then, huh?”

“Why are you in such a rush to be a vampire anyway? You have so much more life to live before I just take it away.”

“She’s here.” He said bluntly, not sounding over happy about it.

“Clever girl....” Stefan nodded impressed. “And here you thought you could hide from her.”

“When…does that mean you’re gonna change me soon?”

“Mmm, there is nowhere safe from the shifters. I take this as an endorsement to meet and fraternize.”

He flinched and refused to look at her. “No.”

“Hey!” He took her chin in his fingers and gave her head a little shake. “Do not mess around with shifter. They eat little humans like you. I know you think that’s kinky but it’s really not when it comes to a wolf or something bigger.”

Stefan nursed his drink for a moment then turned his attention to the grumpy fae. “You’ve mentioned her once or twice.”

“Good. I don’t do hugging.” He said with a nod before adding “I actually like the smell of gasoline”

Stefan rolled his eyes. “You would. What with your repulsive personality it just adds to the image.”

“Nice motto, you should get that printed on a t-shirt” She grinned “I’m Nixie by the way.”

“I should.” He agreed, sitting up straighter. “I could become a connoisseur of clever t-shirt slogans.”

“Stefan.” He offered her his hand and shook it. “Please to meet you, Nixie.”

She batted it away, rolling her eyes. “That’s cute, I’ll be a decent member of society when you will are. Besides you really trust me around all the shifters?”

“Who said anything about shifters? Go work at a coffee shop or something. Somewhere safe.”

“Jerk” He responded, catching the towel “Now there’s no need to get all chick flick on me.” Hektor took a step back away from the counter and held a hand out “Absolutely no hugging”

“As if I’d want to hug you. You smell bad remember.”

She nodded “Profanities were exchanged, tears were shed and not by me” 

“Are you a vodka soda kind of guy? Because If you are I’m going to have to leave.”

“Clever girl.” Stefan beamed.

He laughed. “No! God no....If it doesn’t hurt on the way down it’s not a real drink.”

“You eat people, people are cuter than animals.” Rachel opened her mouth, trying to find someway to protest. “I-I do not hate them. I plan to have it keep me company. But if you’re so against it, I guess I’ll have to give it up. Thanks a lot Stef.”

Stefan made a face. “Ew. No they aren’t. Puppies are so much cuter and they don’t talk.”

He rolled his eyes and tossed a paper at her. “How about instead of sitting around here alone in your emo glory you go out and I don’t know...get a job...make some none blood sucking friends? Be a decent member of society?”

Hektor narrowed his eyes at him “You don’t have normal bodily functions” 

“Bitch.” He said throwing a tea towel at the man “I’m not going to lower myself to the tactics of the rest of my kind for getting rid of annoying people, be thankful of that.”

Stefan pouted. “You don’t have to go and just remind me like that. I’m sensitive.”

He caught the towel with a laugh and flung it back. “Whore. I’m truly honored....truly.” He patted his chest and choked up. “I’ve never had such a good friend as i have in you...I feel like I should hug you or something.”

“Oh, I handled it very calmly. Told him I’m sure it was an accident and that I wasn’t angry at all.” She replied with total sarcasm. “And then I accidentally threw a dart at his back” 

A smile quirked up the corner of her lips at his correct presumption “Brandy and Rum, are more my things”

Stefan made a gleeful sound, leaning in closer. “Was there a lot of blood? Did he scream like a little girl?”

“Excellent. You heard the lady.” He told the bar tender. “If you please.”
