so weird how social media platforms start to think they have the rights to know how old their users are. a person’s age is their personal information. you as a social media platform are not anybody’s parent. it’s not your job to control how people access the internet or what they can and can’t access.
when I was a minor, the whole “age verification” thing did not exist. I grew up fine. all of my friends who had unlimited access to the internet grew up fine. you cannot “protect children” by demanding people’s private, personal information and expect kids to be protected from bad people this way.
“inappropriate contents” don’t harm children. bad people do. and you can’t protect children from bad people by demanding everybody’s personal information and government id.
p.s. I get that it’s the laws that require this in most places and social media platforms, tumblr included, have to do what they’re legally required to do. but it’s still not the solution to the issue, and it sure as shit won’t help keep bad people away from minors.
Also social media algorithms are run by AI. The AI gets things wrong all the time and shows kids inappropriate content. It was never about protecting kids and if it was these companies would focus on fixing their AI so it doesn’t show kids things that aren’t age appropriate.
How long until the next part of the imp revolution happens
I need to finish my outline which will be a few days and then I need to send it to my beta reader and then I’ll write chapter 1 so about a week at most hopefully
I reblogged her late last year and my 2024 has been very satisfying work-wise and (secure enough to not stress out) money-wise so far. Money Snake is wise and good.
