âă Well,he found out anyway that the Coffee Shop Guy spoke English. But he was, suffice to say, surprised by their response. His hand dropped as he regarded the man, realizing with a start that up closer, this man was significantly taller than Vanitas. Which was not something he was used to, by any means. His eyes locked on theirs for a moment, wondering vaguely if Coffee Shop Guyâs eyes were real or contacts like his. Then he realized as his eyes scanned down, a gentle tremor in his hands. He furrowed his brow and looked back up at the question
But before he even had a chance to respond, the man was turning to leave toward the back room. A charcoal brow arched high as he crossed the shop to stand in front of the counter. Nervous guy, huh? For some reason he found that suspicious. And then rolled his eyes at his own feeling towards their actions. Heâs been working with cops for too long. But still. He glanced around a bit, looking over the menu hanging above the cabinets, and then jumped at the cacophonous ring of metal.Â
He blinked a few times before slowly sliding along the counter to step behind it. SirâŚ? Is everything alright? he called out gently, finding the situation to be growing increasingly dubious. His hand slid to his badge in his pocket, ready to show it to him. Well, at least Eraqus finally gave him a badge so he can stop being yelled at for following intuition. Last time he went to investigate someone who seemed a little off, he almost got shot because he couldnât prove he worked for the City police. He was in Paris, which meant he wasnât sure what weight it had here. But with the attacks recently, he had every right to feel a bit skeptical about the situation. Sir? he found the tall, shaking man hunched over slightly in the back room, and part of him was relieved that his assumption that the clatter was him running away ended up being wrong. Are you okay?
[ đ ] â He had mostly calmed down by the time the stranger had come back to check on him. Des hadnât expected the customer to come and find him, but he was almost relieved he did. Desâ hand was still over his heart and once he realized this he dropped it to his side. His head leaned back to hit the wall behind him.Â
âIâm alright. Thunderstorms make me uneasy. I heard it in the distance as you came in and, well, I tried to keep it together but I seem to have failed miserably.â Des chuckled a bit before using the wall behind him to stand, slowly pulling himself up.Â
âI do apologize.â He leaned down and picked up his tray, putting it on a counter nearby. It had hit the floor and he wasnât going to use it to serve this man. He turned back towards Vanitas, a smile now gracing his lips. âI should probably start over. Welcome to Cafe Ardent. My name is Des, what can I get you?âÂ
