I wrote this song based on my observations when I lived in Cave Creek AZ. I ave maligned the character of the cactus wren since it is most likely the flicker that carved out the heart of a saguaro for a nest… not sure about the gnats and I saw a rabbit chew off the toes and shin, but I’ll bet packrat pulled out the spines first and used them to protect her nest.

East of the McDowell mountains I saw all of the chollas were gone. Just black spot in the desert. And if you have ever experienced their barbed spines, you may have the same love/hate that I do for them.

My yet to be recorded song “plate tectonics” tells the story of west and east tectonic plates that can see their reflections from the light of nearly full earth.
