howlin for you | quinn & auggie
auggiepayne:
Auggie winced at the mention of his full name - literally no one but Nana Payne, and his own mother when yelling at him, called him Augustus. To this day, nearly his thirties (sort of, but not really he wasnât Archie!old yet), the werewolf wondered what the hell had been going through his mothers head when she picked his name. Even if he had been an accident like Archie said, the least his parents couldâve done was make up for it by naming him something cool like Elvis or Jean-Claude.
But that wasnât the point.
âAuggie. Augustus, but Auggie,â he corrected, the smile returning to this face. How could she not remember him? So what if sheâd been partially drunk every time they tried having a conversation? It was Archieâs fault for never letting the raven haired goddess inside their home before. Unfortunately, Auggie never had the time to properly bond with his future sister in law - scratch that, ex-future sister in law. Quinn was totally fair game for him and Ella nowâŚtruthfully, she always had been.
âBut the whole women thing - I mean that was just one time,â he explained casually, while picking a bug off the one of the flower petals. âWell, okay not really but I think you were only there once. That one Halloween I tried wearing Ellaâs old cheerleading outfit. You actually said I had great absâŚI think. I was kind of drunk by the time you showed up.â Auggie paused - he was getting off track here. He opened his mouth to further elaborate but Quinn beat him too it.
Surprise, surprise, she was in no mood to deal with a Payne. Honestly, who could blame her? Archie gave them such a bad reputationâŚ
Naturally, the werewolf followed her. âActually, yeah, he sort of did tell us to stay away from you,â he admitted, as he continued on route. âI donât know if heâs still got a thing for you, I mean it makes sense why else would he tell us to stay away? Aside from the fact that youâre trying to take Mia away from him, anyway. I donât really think he cares about - crap,â he paused mid sentence, nearly having walked into a mailbox. She was a speedy walker.
Regardless, it was bro code that Auggie did this for his big brother. Completely ignoring Quinns colorful threats, Auggie was already too far invested - he couldnât abandon ship now. So he sped up slightly to walk beside her. Â "Anyway, I was wondering if you wanted to drab dinner. Or a drink. Maybe I can show you around town? I know this great bar - hey, where are you actually staying? Four seasons or something? Donât tell me youâve got a mansion around here somewhere,â he rambled on, looking around the street while still holding onto the bug infested flowers in his hand.
Quinn continued to walk as Augustus -- Auggie?? What a stupid name they all had such stupid names -- continued to yammer on behind her. Surprise of all surprises, she actually didnât turn around to shut him up, either. Paynes, she had come to realize, were like orphaned puppies. If you acknowledged them, theyâd probably follow you home. The last thing that Quinn needed was a Payne in her hotel room. Dogs werenât allowed. He just kept yammering, and even if Quinn had wanted to respond to any of the weird shit that came out of his mouth, she couldnât because he just kept on going -- which was fine, until Quinn finally stopped at a crosswalk, snatched the flowers from his hand, and tossed them over her shoulder into somebodyâs yard. âYouâre covered in bugs, Augustus,â Quinn completely ignored that he wanted her to call him Auggie. They werenât chummy. She didnât even know him -- not that she really wanted to. âI donât think weâve met if youâve never been a woman.â Quinn arched a perfectly trimmed brow at him before shaking her head and leaning over to lift his shirt up. âMaybe we have. But there is another one of you guys, right? A small, cute one?â Archie never took her around to meet the fam, but she did recall him being pretty over-protective of another particular sibling who was most definitely not Ella or this one. Quinn continued to eye him almost warily before she finally groaned up at the sky at what she was about to agree to. She couldnât eat anymore Ramen. She was also sort of hoping that maybe if there was dinner and booze involved, she could eventually just drown out whatever it was that the Payne wanted to yap at her about, considering for some reason something told her she probably wouldnât get much in the way of helpful Mia updates from him. âYouâre buying?â she asked, though it was more out a courtesy than anything. Obviously he was buying. She didnât have much in the way of cash no thanks to his brother. âDid Archie give you your weekly allowance?â How old was he?
