the ghost, they called him by that name in the trenches. he was always so silent, sticking to the walls, tapping his fingertips to the beat of gunfire. he never talked much during that time, though they could always seem to tell what he was thinking by looking at his face. a horrible, emotive thing, it betrayed now his weariness but also his joy. war was hard, stained him red and black and blue. but london was home and now quincey was home and he could not be sad.
the house looked as it always had, kept tidy and neat. the kitchen the same, except for the kettle and saucers sitting by the stove and the guest who was tending to them. “ i don’t blame you. i am not a writer. ” letters had been received during his time away, now tucked neatly in the satchel that is placed upon hardwood floors. there had been many from his mother, one from his father, and two from kios. but war did not permit writing and quincey was terrible with words. “ my mother is going be awfully upset you’ve seen me before she has. i’m surprise she’s not here. has she gone out? ”
worry creased the plains of his face, the sort of panic that comes with years spent walking on eggshells. his mother, he was her joy. and yet that joy seemed to slip from her at odd hours, replaced by terror a child could never understand. it was that same fear that gripped him now, leading him to venture further in. “ and why are you in the kitchen? she’ll lose her head if she finds you in here. ”
“ i thought you were dead. ” @solstis .

❝ let’s consider the consequences before we take action. ❞ ❝ killing him would be too easy. it would make him a martyr. ❞ ❝ i always used to take your disappointment personally, but i’m finally beginning to understand that no one is beyond reproach. ❞ ❝ i can’t use my power to change things. ❞ ❝ none of this is how it was supposed to be. ❞ ❝ humans are quite capable of violence. ❞ ❝ no human i’ve known has the strength to inflict wounds of that nature. ❞ ❝ you will have no power, no privilege, and you must remove yourself and your possessions and never return here. ❞ ❝ i will make him pay. for all of it. for everything he took from us. ❞ ❝ if you think you’re offering them a place of safety, you’re sadly mistaken. ❞ ❝ at a time of crisis, we should all play to our strengths. ❞ ❝ you are asking me to disregard the history and the family that made me who i am. ❞ ❝ grief never really goes away. it gets quieter, slower, & sometimes it comes rushing back. ❞ ❝ i told you never to come back here. ❞ ❝ i’ll leave when i get what i came for. ❞ ❝ i owe you nothing. you can’t control me anymore. ❞ ❝ i’m so glad you’re here, we have an awful lot to catch up on. ❞ ❝ you have no idea what your kind is capable of. ❞ ❝ believe me, i know what humans are capable of. ❞ ❝ the only reliable thing in the world is change. ❞ ❝ you aren’t going to kill him, are you ? ❞ ❝ we need to find him and help him. ❞ ❝ i can end that suffering and bring him peace. ❞ ❝ this is a war we cannot win. ❞ ❝ you’ve come to kill me, i understand. ❞ ❝ when i realized i couldn’t control myself, i didn’t want to live anymore. ❞ ❝ i’ve done so many things in my life that i regret. ❞ ❝ i thought you were dead. ❞ ❝ i don’t want to be without you. ❞ ❝ it’s not your fault, he took that control away from you. ❞ ❝ i am used to a slightly warmer welcome when i come home. ❞ ❝ we’re all just wondering when the bodies will start turning up. ❞ ❝ if we lose, any chance we had to live in peace will be gone. ❞ ❝ i’m trusting you to have the courage to do what needs to be done. ❞ ❝ i can’t stop seeing the faces of the people i’ve killed. ❞ ❝ you can’t avoid me forever. ❞ ❝ perhaps i like it better when i’m the one doing the destroying. ❞ ❝ i hear you don’t kill people anymore. ❞ ❝ it’s all about making sure that we live in fear. ❞ ❝ i pretended to be lost, she gave me directions —and then i killed her. ❞ ❝ i see what i did and i can’t change it, and i’m truly sorry for that. ❞ ❝ surely the last thing you want to do is draw attention to yourselves. ❞ ❝ i’ve come too far to give up now. ❞ ❝ it’s time you got on with your own life. ❞ ❝ this is more complicated than we thought. ❞ ❝ i’m assuming this isn’t a social visit. ❞ ❝ it must be so exhausting being you, can’t you just enjoy yourself for once ? ❞ ❝ it’s been a long time since i’ve done something useful with my hands. ❞ ❝ we’ve been looking in the wrong place this entire time. ❞ ❝ it would cost you a piece of your soul. ❞ ❝ i heard you’d been skulking around the city, behaving as if your name still means something. ❞ ❝ you’re the one who can put a stop to it once and for all. ❞ ❝ you got what you came for, you don’t have to pretend anymore. ❞ ❝ any threat to the existing order must be extinguished. ❞ ❝ we need to stand together now, more than ever. ❞ ❝ this will be seen as an act of war. ❞ ❝ you’re about to find out who your true friends are. ❞ ❝ you and i are going to do lots of important work together. ❞ ❝ you’ve been pacing the halls all night long. ❞ ❝ what the hell’s going on in here ? ❞ ❝ old worlds will die and new will be born. ❞ ❝ your problems are my problems. ❞ ❝ for now… tomorrow’s troubles can wait. ❞ ❝ we’ll attract a lot of attention. are you ready for this ? ❞ ❝ you’re the one who told me to walk away. ❞ ❝ come on, let’s finish what we started. ❞ ❝ never let it be said i didn’t capitalize on opportunities as they presented themselves. ❞ ❝ you played your part well. i couldn’t have done it without you. ❞ ❝ you didn’t concoct this pathetic charade just to get me here. ❞ ❝ this has everything to do with your addiction to cruelty and obscenity. ❞ ❝ all this time you’ve been living a lie - a narrative you’ve invented for yourself. ❞ ❝ i am exactly what you made me. ❞ ❝ you didn’t have the courage to kill me outright, instead you destroyed me. ❞ ❝ i wanted you to be cursed for your betrayal of my family. ❞ ❝ what have you done, you conceited little fool ? ❞ ❝ i know you don’t trust me, i’ve given you little reason to do so. ❞ ❝ i know, i barely recognize myself. ❞ ❝ i never want that kind of power again. ❞ ❝ i thought you might want to say goodbye. ❞ ❝ he has always hidden in the heart of atrocity. ❞ ❝ god cannot save you. no one can. ❞ ❝ your family is in chaos, your secrets exposed. ❞ ❝ whatever crimes my family has committed are nothing compared to yours. ❞ ❝ this is my battle. ❞ ❝ we could have been the greatest allies, you and i. ❞ ❝ power without conscience is a savage weapon. ❞ ❝ when you go to bed, don’t leave bread or milk on the table —it attracts the dead. ❞ ❝ change is needed, and it is our history that should define our future. ❞ ❝ i’ve been practicing what you taught me. i feel in control. ❞ ❝ we’ve all been guilty of acting in our own best interests. ❞ ❝ your day of judgment is coming. ❞
quincey is full of rage but like the kind of rage where he cries and if that is not the perfect combination of his parents
nobody: jon: “it is an added joy to mina and to me that our boy's birthday is the same day as that on which quincey morris died. his mother holds, i know, the secret belief that some of our brave friend's spirit has passed into him.”
