It's a good time to either get caught up on episodes / old episode discussions (masterlist with all discussion posts here), or to work on some fic for the challenge (you can pick an episode freely or sign up for a writing challenge to get a random selection).

Hi everyone, just a heads up that I'm extending the mid-season 2 break at least a month to May 3rd! I think I'm currently the only one caught up on the watch-through and I could use more break time, so I'm pushing back the date when we resume watching season 2 until the beginning of May.

Of course, let me know if you're itching to resume the episode discussions, or need more time than that, so that I can take that into account with the scheduling! Otherwise, I'll see you in May!

Thank you for voting on the previous poll! Since it seemed like most people would appreciate me sharing Quodo in Every Episode discussions here, I'll start doing that from now on!

This week, we're discussing episode 2x17 "Playing God," featuring a Trill initiate coming to the station, where Jadzia has to strike a balance between strengthening the initiate's case for joining and avoiding the cruel approach she experienced under Curzon. Meanwhile, there's a Cardassian vole infestation going on.

If you want to check out previous episodes' discussions, they're all listed in episode order over at the masterlist.

After this episode, we're actually going on a a mid-season break. It's a good opportunity for catching up on episodes or taking some time to write up a QIEE fill, if you're interested in that!

Poll about Quodo in Every Episode event

Hi everyone, just a random question, but I was just wondering if people would be interested in me posting Quodo in Every Episode update posts / episode discussions here? Quodo in Every Episode is kind of a continuously ongoing challenge I'm running to find/write a Quodo fic for every episode of DS9. It's a fic writing challenge but it's also just kinda a group ST:DS9 rewatch with about 1 episode under discussion per week.

It fits under the banner of "Quodo events I run" but because it's kind of always going on (and expected to do so for uh... the next three years or so), I wasn't sure there was value in advertising episode discussions for it here, since this community might be more useful for highlighting short-term events that you might otherwise miss, whereas you can't really miss Quodo in Every Episode.

Just a note that you may want to redate your work, because works posted a while ago will be buried several pages back in the DS9 tag on AO3 and people might not realize it's new. To redate, edit your work, go down to the "Associations" section, check the "Set a different publication date" box, and then put in today's date. The listings may take a few minutes to update.

Quodo Mini-fest: looking for feedback (Quodo Mini-fest VI coming soon!)

Quodo Mini-fest VI is starting up soon (in January!). Before it starts, though, I would like some feedback on planned changes to Quodo. I am planning on running it as normal from January to Feb 14 (Valentine's Day), although if this timeframe doesn't work for you, do let me know.

The main change that I was thinking about making in terms of Quodo Mini-fest's rules is changing it so that, if you're without a gift after the deadline and you haven't commented on gifts you've gotten in previous rounds of Quodo Mini-fest, I will not seek out a pinch hitter to fill your request.

While I do generally like the setup we've had so far, where everyone who signs up gets a gift regardless of whether they turn something in or not, I feel like when it comes to filling post-deadline pinch hits in particular, there's been some situations where seeking out a last-minute pinch hitter was probably too stressful of a thing to do and I probably should not have done this.

In general, filling post-deadline pinch hits in this event has been fairly difficult because the time between the deadline and when the collection opens is quite short. The fanwork minimums are pretty low, so that mitigates some of that issue, but depending on the prompts, it can be hard to fill with a short/quick work, and it can just be hard for someone to schedule time to make something with a window so short. One thing I could do that would help remove some of this pressure would be to adjust the schedule to make the deadline earlier and the buffer period longer, and I'm definitely open to doing this.

However, there is still another issue, which is that it feels weird to ask for a tight-turnaround pinch hit when it's unlikely that the person whom the gift is for will comment on it. I don't want to make someone producing works on short notice feel like their effort was wasted! And if someone doesn't have a gift and multiple people work on something at the same time, we can end up in a situation where multiple gifts get made for a person that aren't actually acknowledged later.

So in short, proposed change: After the deadline, before I post the list of replacement gifts needed, I will check if the recipient has any gifts in previous rounds of Quodo Mini-fest they haven't commented on and will make a decision about whether to that sign-up on the list of needed pinch hits on that basis. (If you haven't participated in any rounds of Quodo Mini-fest previously, the benefit of the doubt will obviously be granted!)

I also plan on clarifying in the rules that works submitted to this event have to be complete i.e. stories have to be self-contained / have a beginning/middle/end, and art pieces have to convey a complete idea, even if the work is short, sketchy, low-effort, etc.

So please let me know what you think about the above changes.

How is the schedule/timeframe of this event? Would you like it moved? Would you like a longer gap between when works are due and when the works are scheduled to be revealed?

Deep Space Halloween Zine Information

Hi there, welcome to the Deep Space Halloween Zine information zone, where I try to give all the pertinent information about the zine in one handy post.

Submission Rules

Fandom

This is a Deep Space Nine zine, so please make sure your submissions focus on Deep Space Nine and its characters. However, characters from other trek shows are welcome as "guest stars" in your works.

Theme

This zine will be (very loosely) Halloween themed! The works can be about halloween itself, or they can be spooky, or even just fall themed. This is a very, very loose theme.

Format and Cost

This zine will be released digitally and be completely free!

A version formatted for printing will be available if you so choose to print and assemble the zine yourself!

Fanfiction (up to 5000 words)

Fan art

Comics

Photo Manips/Collages

Poetry/Original Song Lyrics

(Photos of) sculptures, dioramas, cake art

Basically if it can be put on a piece of paper, it can be eligable!

Zine Cover

If you would like to submit a cover for this zine, please do!

If you submit a cover, it must include the name of the zine (Deep Space Halloween Zine) the issue number (Issue 1) and the year (2025). It should not include signatures or watermarks (credit will of course be listed inside the zine itself).

Covers can be your own art, or can be a photo manipulation.

In the case that multiple covers are submitted, all covers that don't make it to, well, the cover, will be featured as full pages at the end of the zine as "alternate covers," like collected editions of comics do!

Qualifications

You do not need to be an experienced artist/writer/cake decorator/whatever to contribute to this zine!

In fact, beginners are both welcome and encouraged to participate!

Rating

To keep this zine friendly for everyone, we will not be accepting explicit content.

Please keep your works to a rating of Teen+ or lower, or PG-13.

Since this is a halloween themed zine, blood and gore is allowed, as long as it fits a PG-13 rating (use your favourite search engine to find a list of PG-13 horror movies if you need a reference point).

Ships

You can feature ships in your work, or no ships at all if that's more your style.

Ships between minors and adults should be avoided.

AI Generated Work

AI generated work is strickly not allowed.

Don't do it. I will know. And I will find you.

Exclusivity

All works submitted must not have already been posted elsewhere.

All works submitted should remain unposted until the zine is released on Halloween, after which you are allowed to share your work on Tumblr/AO3/Wherever.

The zine will be released on 31 October 2025!

last day of @quodoevents's quodo week! what better way to celebrate than by showing the divine might of quodo forcing my bf into the cuck chair?

(the context for this is that i asked my bf if they'd be jealous if i started wearing a locket with odo's picture in it and they said "as long as i get to be on the other side" but i said quark had to be on the other side so they put this together using art that id drawn of me and quark swapping outfits and a separate little drawing id done of odo smiling and adding themself in)

For Quodo week 2025

Every chapter is one day Quark and Odo spend on Ferenginar.

First chapter on AO3 now :)

Day 1: Meeting Moogie

Quark stretches his arms above his head and his back cracks. He's just stepped out of a tiny shuttle and is already complaining. Odo steps out behind him, with several trunks full of Quark's things.

Odo makes a grunt that Quark knows must mean: ‘Shouldn't you be the one carrying all this stuff?’ as he puts the trunks on the ground.

“Yeah, yeah, give me a minute. I'm just stretching. That shuttle is way too small, it's really not good for my back.”

“Well then maybe you should have picked out a more suitable shuttle and paid a little extra.”

Quark just gives him a dirty look and goes to pick up the trunks.

Chapter two added!

Day 2: "You read my diary?"

When Odo gets up Quark is asleep in the bed. Odo sits down and stares for a minute before he walks out of the room, deciding to let him sleep. Odo takes a pad and sits down in the living room. It is still dark out and a gentle rain is tapping on the roof. It would probably be several hours before Ishka or Quark get up.

Chapter three is up

Day 3: Protective

Odo set up the appointment for himself and Quark to meet up with the realtor early in the afternoon. Odo had already told him what houses he was interested in and they had two tours lined up today.

When the two of them walk up to the first house, the realtor is standing in front of the door. He looks a bit surprised to see these two walking up.

“Hello. Locar, I presume? We spoke over the coms. I am Odo.”

“Ah, right, of course!” Locar quickly recovers, smiles as if nothing happened and greets them “Odo, sir, good to meet you. and this is?”

“Quark” Quark answers simply.

Locar smiles and nods. “Shall we go inside then?”

Chapter four!

Day 4: Odo using his shapeshifting for domestic reasons

Quark wakes up alone in his bed. He hears Odo and his moogie talking and laughing from the kitchen. He smiles as he gets up.

Ishka is telling Odo about some of her recipes while they make breakfast. They don't even look up when Quark walks in. He walks up to them, gives Odo a quick kiss on the cheek, and says good morning.

Day 7: Quark's Moon

Quark wakes up in the new bed, Odo pooling around his side. He’s so comfortable that he feels content just laying there, maybe forever. He snuggles up to Odo and slowly drifts back to sleep. When he wakes up again, Odo is gone. He feels around the bed, and looks over the edge, but he hasn’t dripped onto the floor this time either. Odo walks into the room with a little breakfast tray in his hands. “Good morning.”
