The Twilight Saga + Forever
Stay always, stay forever.
New Moon by Stephenie Meyer/ hoax by Taylor Swift
Nothing lingered here. Nothing more than the memories that I could have called back whenever I wanted to, if I was ever willing to endure the corresponding painâthe pain that had me now, had me cold. There was nothing special about this place without him. I wasnât exactly sure what Iâd hoped to feel here, but the meadow was empty of atmosphere, empty of everything, just like everywhere else. Just like my nightmares.
Midnight Sun + Eclipse
Midnight Sun
âSomeday sheâll want more than I can give her.â There was so much I couldnât give her. âYou would have wanted more, wouldnât you? If you were in her position, and Emmett in mine?â
Eclipse
âYouâre more important than everyone else. And youâve given me you. Thatâs already more than I deserve, and anything else you give me just throws us more out of balance.â
He processed that for a moment, and then rolled his eyes. âThe way you regard me is ludicrous.â
Edward, youâve got a big storm coming.
Midnight Sun + New MoonÂ
I couldnât fully form the picture in my head. Leaving her. How would I survive? Alice had shown me Bellaâs anguish in my absence, but what would she see of me in that version of the future, if she looked? I couldnât believe I would be anything more than a broken shadow, useless, crumpled, empty.
It went against all my better impulsesâthe human impulses that Iâd clung to through so many years.

Twilight vs. Midnight Sun: Edward thinks heâs scary vs. Bella thinks heâs beautiful
âDo I dazzle you?â I voiced my curiosity impulsively, and then the words were out, and it was too late to recall them.
But before I had time to regret too deeply speaking the words aloud, she answered, âFrequently.â And her cheeks took on a faint pink glow.
I dazzled her.
My silent heart swelled with a hope more intense than I could ever remember having felt before.
I couldnât afford to make mistakes, and it would be a monumental mistake to dwell on the strange hungers that thoughts of her lips⌠her skin⌠her body⌠were shaking loose inside me. Hungers that had evaded me for a hundred years.

Edward and meteors
Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer
It made no logical sense that simple contact between this specific area of skin should be so much more powerful than anything Iâd yet experienced. It felt as if a new sun was bursting into being where our mouths met, and my whole body was filled to a shatter point with the brilliant light of it.Â
Twilight vs. Midnight Sun: Bella saying his name vs Edward hearing his
Twilight vs. Midnight Sun: the first time Bella dreamt of Edward vs. the first time he stayed
Twilight
In my dream it was very dark, and what dim light there was seemed to be radiating from Edwardâs skin. I couldnât see his face, just his back as he walked away from me, leaving me in the blackness. No matter how fast I ran, I couldnât catch up to him; no matter how loud I called, he never turned. Troubled, I woke in the middle of the night and couldnât sleep again for what seemed like a very long time.
Midnight Sun
She was dreaming of me. Could a dead, frozen heart beat again? It felt as though mine was about to.
âStay,â she sighed. âDonât go. Please⌠donât go.â
She was dreaming of me, and it wasnât even a nightmare. She wanted me to stay with her, there in her dream. I struggled to find words to name the feelings that flooded through me, but I had no words strong enough to hold them. For a long moment, I drowned in them. When I surfaced, I was not the same man I had been.
Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer
After all, it really didnât matter if I left, because Bella could never see me the way I wished she would. Never see me as someone worthy of love. Could a dead, frozen heart break? It felt as though mine would.
âEdward,â Bella said.
I froze, staring at her unopened eyes. Had she awakened, caught me here? She looked asleep, yet her voice had been so clear. She sighed a quiet sigh, and then moved restlessly again, rolling to her sideâstill fast asleep and dreaming.
âEdward,â she mumbled softly. She was dreaming of me. Could a dead, frozen heart beat again? It felt as though mine was about to.
âStay,â she sighed. âDonât go. Please⌠donât go.â
Her eyes dropped again as she said the word stay. I understood her clearly, for once. I could hear that when she said stay, she didnât mean for this moment in the sunshine, for the afternoon or the week. She meant it the way I wanted to say it to her. Stay always. Stay forever.
Happy Anniversary, Edward and Bella!
Midnight Sun, Epilogue
I envisioned Bella twenty years from now, maturing gracefully into middle age. Like her mother, she would hold on to the image of youth longer than most, but when the lines came, they would not mar her beauty. I imagined her somewhere sunny in a pretty but simple house that was, unless she changed her ways significantly, filled with clutter. Adding to the clutter would be children, two or three. Maybe one boy with Charlieâs curly hair and smile, and a girl who, like Bella, took after her mother. I did not try to picture their father, or think about how his face might be reflected in her children; that was all agony.
Edward, youâve got a big storm coming.
