Ok I know I'm burnt out as fuck but we need to talk about the fact that Dan basically sold Herbert out to the state and that he's a fucking traitor when Herbert was just really autistic and passionate about his work and felt safe enough to share it with someone else after he lost the only other person that meant so much to him that he was basically his dad, which was Dr. Gruber.

And let's not forget the fact that he lost his parents in a chemical fire and struggled through foster care and a fucking orphanage and having to deal with brainless fucks that constantly got on his nerves all the time and was constantly overstimulated due to the fact everything was noisy around him to the point where he couldn't even function much less think.

Not only did Doctor Hill try to plagiarize his work, but also his dearly departed mentor's work, Dr. Gruber's. And his boyfriend, Dan, is the worst of them all. Dan betrayed him. He cared for Dan. He wouldn't have even so much as glanced at Dan if he didn't care so much for him.

I am very aware of how morally questionable Herbert is, but I recognize a betrayed, broken person who basically lost everything they had. There's a reason. There's always a reason.

Herbert, I knew you loved him. But from the beginning, I knew he was going to betray you. Great minds don't think alike. One great mind was a plagiarist and a creep who only wanted a profit. The other was a spineless coward and a traitor. You were just a curious child fascinated with death and trying to make it so that no one you cared about ever died again.

Even if it's morally questionable and even wrong in some instances, you weren't afraid to go past those limits. You tried so hard. And you succeeded. You conquered brain death. And I'm fucking proud of you, even if it meant poor Rufus had to suffer with a broken back.

Science is not beautiful. Science is brutal. It's ugly. But it's so strikingly human in its complexities and with the general curiosity and even mystery surrounding it. Beckoning us to answer its call. To ask questions no one else has dared to ask. Or even questions no one has ever asked before. Questions that lead to new discoveries.

The reason why we have what we have today is because someone dared to ask and then they dared to find the answers. They dared to see what would happen if they did or didn't do something. They dared to try. Science embodies the darkest parts of humanity. It's macabre art in its own way. Morally questionable. Sometimes morally blind, even. And I want more of it. Its like a drug. It's addictive. Obsessive. Human.
