Least Typecast Fave: Jang Nara
Another interview about Gintama ^_^
Kdrama Women’s Week
Day One: Least Typecast Fave
Jung Ryeo Won is probably not the least typecast kdrama actress I’ve seen (I believe that honor goes to Kim Mi Kyung, a veritable queen of versatility), but she is a fave with a long list of distinctive and unforgettable roles to her name.
You really don’t need to go any further than History of a Salaryman and King of Dramas to see how great a range in characters Jung Ryeo Won has under her belt. In King of Dramas, she’s an earnest and idealistic scriptwriter who passionately believes in writing dramas imbued with a sense of humanity. That’s a far cry from History of a Salaryman’s Baek Yeo Chi, a self-absorbed heiress whose outlook on her fellow humans is one of disdain, and whose passion is for spewing off long streams of colorful swear words. That the two characters are played by the same actress is impressive, and Jung Ryeo Won completely succeeds in bringing them both convincingly to life.
From the antagonistic ex-girlfriend returning from abroad in My Name is Kim Sam Soon to the career woman falling in love with her best friend in Bubblegum, Jung Ryeo Won never seems to be cast in the exact same type of role twice, and I’m always looking forward to seeing what sort of character she’ll play next. Here’s to hoping she never ceases to surprise me!
but give up before even trying…
