So I’ve been taken in by a local Victoria pottery studio. It was actually the one I had my eyes set on because of the atmosphere and attitudes of the people running it. 

I was given a tour of their new space as it is being renovated and I’m very excited to be a future part of Hands On Pottery. you can find their website and info here: http://handsonpottery.ca/

I have been offered the wonderful opportunity to teach my very own ceramics class! I’m currently trying to figure out where the best place to start is because I’ve never taught a class nor fully planned one before. So I guess its off to the drawing board.

Have bike, will travel.

So I’m all moved into our little house in Victoria. I;m getting used to some new things as well as ridding my bike everywhere.  I got an opportunity to work part-time at Hands On Pottery down at Quadra Village. So hopefully I will be getting my hands on some clay soon! I am off to go buy bread.... cause I have none.....

Looks  like the inking is all finished on my 9 comic pages for my CGN Class. its been a long haul and I didn't even realize how much effort and time it takes for someone to make 9 pages of a comic!

Okay so Project Shrine is coming together! It has to or it wont be done. Printed the head and made the figures for the sides. Will print those next.

Need to get the balloon prints onto the balloons. GO GO GO GO

Few more Majolica tests went into the kiln Friday. Working on better utilizing my bamboo brush and playing with the strengths of the pigments.

My rabbit plaque was a larger scale practice featuring the “same” subject over and over. I essentially just painted a bunch of rabbits, some more rabbit-y than others.

I went to Victoria to view houses this past weekend. When we were out for lunch it happened to be right across from the Madrona Gallery in Downtown Victoria. I peered inside and had to go in.

There current show is “Contemporary North” and had many very unique pieces. Most were mixed media (mostly pencil crayons) or carvings. But their collection pieces are the ones that really caught my attention. Judy Blake is the artist behind the Saggar fired vessels. These particularly caught my attention because I was very interested in this process from the beginning of the school term. See more of her work here!

Clayton Anderson’s pieces caught my attention as they sat on the floor by the stairs. They were obviously brought down to show someone else but I’m absolutely in love with the style. I will definitely be looking him up later when I get back into painting. See more of his work here!

Here are two more Rabbo pages as I work on inking the others. I’m hoping to make a few beginning pages focusing on Rabbo first moving to this big city I fell like it will help put him into character more and fits well with what I am personally experiencing in my life.

Majolica tests returned from the kiln. My Pea Green and Silver grey were the only botched colours I found so far. Pea Green Turned Brown while Silver grey was burgundy.

I mixed up the numbering on the larger test tile. 6530 is the Silver Grey that came out burgundy while 6067 is Pink Extender.

More tests A’HOY.

UPDATE on the Printmaking project. Things are going slowly but surely. I’ve finished the papermache balls and they are ready for the final prints to be pasted on them.

Going to be wrapping wire for the legs.

As well as printing on the final cloth today! Wish me luck!

I’ve also been inspired by the recent onslaught of Christmas.  Plan on using some of these designs for later inspirations. Good posing, character, and emotion is all of these little deers.

I was approached by Aphinity who organized Howloween: A Halloween themed Con over in Vancouver. He wanted me to make a t-shirt for the event so I agreed. This was the result.  They were all sold out by the end and I’m very happy with the design!

Here is a look at my mixing/storage of the majolica and frit stains. I’ve numbered each with their stain number to keep track and for ease of mixing up if we need more.

I’ve inspired some of my classmates to try out this process as well. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Majolica tests are out and oh boy are they beautiful! The frit added to the stains makes everything melt together with no running.

I picked up bamboo brushed vs the regular synthetic ones used for the test. Hopping for smoother application and better brush strokes.

Comics are continuing along featuring the funniest things that have happened. I’m looking to start doing the final black lines soon!

Ceramics log 20XX.

I found a lost plaster cup mold today. Interested to see how to make a cup considering that this one failed super quick. I’ve been continually experimenting with the timing and drying area for the best results…

Majolica! Majolica! Where have you been all my life!

Scott handed me this little two page paper and told me he wanted me to try it out.

I did end up messing up a few things like putting Mason stain in the majolica or us not having CMC gum but eventually it was all fixed and I managed to get tests done.

Aside from me being sick this past week things have been moving. I’m now focusing on painting on glazes based on Akio Takamori and Ron Meyers as well as others. I also tested some under glazes and porcelain slips as well.
