Module 6
This week’s course materials for my social media class were heavy. We talked about intersectionality, politics, and society. We have to be careful how we approach these subjects in today’s age because, everyone feels strongly about their opinions.
Speaking on intersectionality, this idea was kind of new to me. I understood what the word meant, but I learned more about it and its origin. This helped me create a deeper meaning for the word. Basically, it means that people have multiple issues that overlap with one another. You cannot categorize people based on only one issue. For example, a black woman may be a feminist as well as a lesbian. This would put her into many different groups. The fact that she is a black and a woman automatically puts her at a disadvantage. Now, adding that she is a feminist and a part of the LBGTQ community, her interests and associations have intersectionality. It is important to understand the meaning of intersectionality because it can help us understand our peers better.
