“Hi, Zoey. I’m a little disappointed you didn’t pick up because I have some news to tell you. I’ve been accepted for an interview at a cafe in town and I would really appreciate some advice. I’ve only ever had one interview and, as you probably know, it was hardly a grueling process. He only asked me if I was pregnant or dying and hired me when I said no to both so I think I need some tips on what they might ask me at this one. I’m a bit nervous, if you can tell but I am excited too. I know I probably shouldn’t be telling you about this but I trust that you can keep a secret. It’s a bit closer to campus and the conditions are – well, they’re a lot more pleasant. If you could give me a call back when you receive this, I’d really like your help.”

He waited patiently for her to move her things, smiling gratefully as he sat down. “Thank you. I’m sorry to be a bother, there isn’t anywhere else to sit” he explained, looking around the diner again. “I promise to be careful. Not officially, no. But I do some work on campus, you might have seen me around.”
“It’s not a problem. I shouldn’t be taking up so much space anyway” she assures him as she carefully tucks paper away into appropriate folders. “It’s busy today, isn’t it? -- Ah, I see. That explains why I recognise you so. It’s nice to officially meet you...” she pauses, waiting for him to offer his name.

“Oh, o-of course.” Grier’s eyes fell to the soaking wet paper. “Unfortunately, I don’t think I have the means to undo all that,” she said, gesturing towards it. “But I’ll do what I can for you.”
Rachel laughs. “It would be superb if you could. I’ve have to take you everywhere with me for each time I show my clumsy. But I was just wondering if you wouldn’t mind going into that cafe there and asking for another application form. That’s what I dropped and I’m a little embarrassed to ask for another.”

Wes smiled a bit, trying to be polite. This season was all so overwhelming that he just nodded at her story a bit. “Yeah. I guess coffee then. Thanks for the help, can I buy yours for you?”
“You’re welcome” she says but she’s not sure she deserves a thanks. “No, it’/s ok. You don’t need to do that. But that’s very kind of you”

“There’s not really much classier than a violin, right?” Admittedly his knowledge of music was… limited at best but he still smiled brightly at her regardless. “I think there are plenty of very hard things in the world, but maybe that’s just because you’re better at life than I am.” He leaned forward almost conspiratorially but with amusement spelled across his face. “Don’t tell anyone, but I’m actually a complete mess. Can’t do much of anything,” he joked, happy to see that she felt a lot more at ease and nodding as she went about to make his coffee. “Amen to that. I’m guessing that means you’re not from around here. That, the accent and the fact I’ve never seen you. Where are you from, if you don’t mind me asking?” Leaning his head on his hand, he continued to give her his full attention though stopping to laugh and shake his head. “Oh no, I’m a teacher, but that’s just as bad. And don’t worry, that’s not half as harsh as I’ve heard the other two say about this place. I’m honestly surprised you’re still in business, but it’s a little charming in it’s own way.”
“Maybe not. But I do think every instrument is beautiful in it’s own way” she nods and she believes it too. “I don’t imagine that’s true” she giggles, shaking her head. “I think emotions can be hard but skills are only as hard as you make them. That’s what my mam tells me. You can do anything you set your mind to but it’s important to know you can’t control how you feel” she recites with a firm nod of her head. “I don’t believe that. I’m sure there’s something you’re good at. You’re good at making people relax, that’s a skill all in it’s own” she compliments. “No. My father lives near here but I’ve grown up with my mother in Ireland” she tells him. “Galway to be specific but I’m sure you’ve never heard of it.” There’s a fond smile as she talks about her home town. “Are you from here?” she asks politely. “A teacher? Maybe you’re right about not being able to do anything ‘cause they say those who can’t do teach” she jokes. “No, I’m joking. What do you teach? -- Have you heard them say it while they’re working?” she worries. “I’ll have to tell them, I’d hate them to get in trouble” she says although she knows the owners couldn’t care less.

The response had Zoey raising an eyebrow, glancing at the ruined paper pointedly but deciding not to say anything about it. Some part of her did care and she wanted to know what the truth was, but it went against her nature to show that. “Uh huh,” she said with disbelief at first before shaking her head. “Doubtful but I suppose I’ll take your word on that.” Though looking almost like she wanted to ask, Zoey ultimately sighed and lifted out her hands to take the folders. “Fine. I’m just going home so it’s not like I don’t have some time, I guess.”
Rachel feels guilty as she follows Zoey’s look at the paper but she still thinks it’s best to keep it quiet for now. She’d hate the news to get out and result in her getting fired, even though if she really thinks about it she knows she’d have to do something far worse for the restaurant to fire her. “Just something I dropped. It wasn’t very important, it can be replaced” she explains with a shrug. “I’ll give you the least heavy ones” she smiles as she hands over half the folders. “Thanks, Zoey. Can I buy you a coffee as a thanks for helping me? I’m on my way to class but I always leave with a lot of time to spare.”

Watching the scene with a smile tugging on her lips, it was cruel how amusing Sayra found other people struggling to be but she’d lost the ability to feel guilty for it years ago. Once the girl addressed her, however, she took a few steps closer. “Depends on what the favour is. If it’s something simple then the answer is probably yes. If it requires effort then it’s only a maybe.”
Rachel’s smile falters a little, she’s not sure if this girl is joking or not and she hesitates before answering. “I’m afraid it does require a bit of effort but I understand if you want to refuse. I was just going to ask if you could run into that cafe there and ask for an application form. For me, I mean.”

“I know that feeling. It never seems worth the effort to make several trips, does it?” Chris mused with a smile though listening at the other’s request with a small laugh. “Oh, sure thing, dear. That’s easy enough. Just give me one second.” Smiling she held up a finger before going inside the cafe and talking with the staff for a bit. A few minutes later she came back out holding the form triumphantly. “Mission accomplished. But do you need a hand? Don’t want to end up dropping things again, right? I can at least get them to your car or your house or wherever it is you’re going.”
She shakes her head, returning the other girl’s smile. “My mam says I’m always rushing, that I need to slow down but it’s a difficult change to make.” Rachel thanks the girl as she leaves, she’s surprised by how willing to help this girl is but very grateful. “Thanks so much” she repeats. “You’ve saved me face there” she laughs, nodding at the offer of help. “If you wouldn’t mind. You can take math and..” she pauses, studying the folders in her hands. “and my sheet music. Those are the lightest” she explains as she hands them over, next reaching out for the application form and tucking it carefully into the folders she still holds.

Hours ticked away until the end of his graveyard shift – he normally wouldn’t mind this schedule but the last three nights have been vacant. Which was very rare for a night working in the ER, but immediately he had to eat his own words as paramedics rushed in a patient that needed an urgent scan of their left arm. It definitely looked broken from what he could see. He gently approached the patient as they wheeled them into the appropriate. “Hi there, I’m Brody. I’ll be doing an X-ray on your arm tonight, okay? Can you tell me what happened and the exact location the pain is radiating from?”
Rachel doesn’t drink often and so, when she does, alcohol goes to her head quickly and that’s exactly what has happened tonight. Trying to impress her new classmates, she’s drank a lot and ended up dancing on and falling off a table. She smiles, cheeks a little red as he asks to hear what happened. “I fell” she winces through the pain. “Landed on my arm I think. I hope it isn’t broken because I have so much work to do this week and I can’t very well do work if I can’t write or type” she panics, mentally swearing to never drink again. “I’m Rachel” she finally introduces herself.

“They do? I guess that explains why mine isn’t the best. I was one of those kids that rebelled against piano lessons until my parents gave up,” he admitted with a chuckle. “But violin? Very classy. Also pretty hard from what I’ve heard so good for you,” he complimented with another easy smile, always one to try to put others at ease if he could. “It’s really not that big of a deal. I wasn’t going to bring it up at all. Just some coffee would be fantastic, actually. Oh, don’t worry about it. I promise it’s fine. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth so I’ll pass on the dessert I think. I’ve just been in your position before. I mean working a job where you have to worry about people getting upset with you and not being able to say anything back… actually I’m still in that position. Either way no reason to make your day any worse than it has to be.”
“It’s not for everyone, I suppose” she shrugs, bearing a polite smile although she’s a firm believer that everyone should have an outlet in either music or the arts -- she’s not writing him off just yet. “Classy? I suppose it is” she smiles, pleased by his choice of adjective. “I don’t believe anything is hard if you put enough effort in but that’s kind of you to say.” She’s more relaxed now and it’s clear from the radiant smile on her face. “Coffee, I can do that” she nods, relieved she’s been shown how to use the machine just yesterday. She moves around the counter, starting up the coffee machine before she looks at him again. “I can relate. It's more about the dessert wine than the actual dessert where I grew up” she tells him with a fond smile. “You’re a waiter in a terrible restaurant too?” she asks but she’s quickly frowning, looking around with a worried expression. “Did I say that out loud? -- I didn’t mean terrible. I’m just still getting used to things here, that’s all” she corrects herself, promptly shaking her head. “

“The quality of air in this bathroom isn’t much better — trust me,” she mused, her lips pulling up into an amused grin at the nervous energy around the girl. Izzy wasn’t a hardcore partier, much less someone who frequented clubs ( anymore, anyway, because what was college for if not trying new experiences while massively drunk ), but it seemed the girl before her was even less so than she was, and not as practiced in hiding it. Huh, did she seem drunk herself because she was delirious and sleep deprived? That was mildly hilarious and unfortunately ironic; she got to be drunk, minus the fun. “I don’t know, you’re probably going to need it for when you go back out there. It gets pretty crazy around this time of night — all the girls falling all over themselves in their heels, stabbing desperate fuck boys on their way down, Ubers rolling in and congesting the curb. I like listening to it all from here, it’s comforting. Plus, the gross tiles really help me regret my life choices.” She paused. “What about you? Out on a girls’ night?”
“I’m sure you’re probably right” she laughs as she replays her own sentence in her head. Rachel isn’t sure of this girl’s story but she’s already finding it easier to converse with her than she has her new friends all evening so she’s glad of the prolonged break. “I don’t drink much, I’ll be honest. A loss of control isn’t something I willingly place on myself but it can’t hurt every once in a while, right?” she asks as she takes the final sip of her drink. She glances down at her own feet at the mention of heels and remembers, not for the first time that night, that her tennis shoes don’t really fit in with the dress code. She nods. “That does sound crazy. I didn’t know a bathroom could be comforting but whatever works for you, I suppose. Do you come here often? -- Not a girl’s night, no. I’m here with the orchestral society, from my university” she explains, rocking on her feet. “I just joined and they say this is how they welcome the new members. It’s fun, I think.”

The diner seemed to be pretty overcrowded and trying to juggle a laptop in one hand and his food in the other, Shane quickly set his sights on the only open seat. Clearing his throat, he looked down at the person sitting at the table. “Is this seat taken?”
She wants to refuse. She has her work set out across the table as she finds it easier to concentrate that way but she knows it’s selfish to take up two seats. “No, you can -- one second?” she asks, carefully gathering the graphs and charts from his side of the surface. “You can sit. If you wouldn’t mind being careful not to spill anything on my work” she asks with a hopeful smile before her eyes narrow on the man before her. “Have we met before”
