Phoebe: SO in case I didn't already tell you if you don't have any super special Christmas plans you can feel free to come to my apartment! It will be a lot of fun!

Phoebe: If you don't that's totally okay! but if you don't I might cry. Just a little. A few tears. Not that that means you /have/ to, just that it could make me very sad and that's saying a lot since, you know, I don't get sad a lot? Only really with sad movies and sick animals or things like that. Or when people get angry with me...

Sayra: This is possibly the longest invitation I've ever received.

Christmas was rough. It was bad for Wes, so the first chance he got, he took his drunk ass out to a club, something where music and alcohol could fuse together to let him shut ogg and just try to have some fun. He got a few drinks at the bar and moved to the dance floor. Someone at the bar kept capturing his attention so he went over to them, tapped them on the shoulder, and leaned in so they could hear. “This may be forward, but I was wondering if you’d like to come dance with me.” 

With her siblings off visiting their dad for the holidays, Sayra was enjoying her new found freedom and had spent nearly every night over the past week at the bar. To her, it had been the perfect way to spend Christmas. Feeling a tap on her shoulder, she turned away from the group she ha been talking to and smiled at Wes. “Dance with you - are you sure you could handle my moves? I’m a pretty excellent dancer. The best, some have said.”

“You don’t have to keep thanking me for walking you home it’s really - oh, okay” she stopped herself as Chris pulled her into a hug, standing still for a few seconds before reaching around to lightly pat her friend on the back. “You know, I’m not really a hug type of person” she admitted, clearing her throat a little and feeling increasingly more awkward as the hug continued. “How long do these things usually last?”

Smiling as he sat down, Shane’s expression turned to shock when she continued to speak. “Handsome?” he repeated. “Thanks” he replied, clearly nervous. “I guess it’s nice to not have to eat alone.”

“Yes, handsome” she confirmed, raising an eyebrow at him. “You can’t tell me that’s the first time anyone’s ever given you that compliment?.” Nodding at his next words, she offered him a smile. “That it is. Though, I don’t know about you but, I’ve found it’s nearly impossible to sit anywhere alone in this town. There’s always someone coming along to join you, that’s what makes this place so interesting.”

“I’m glad that you atleast think my untrustworthy face is cute. It’s the only thing I got going, apparently.” Carter answer with a toothy grin, a laugh following shortly. Taking what she said as a permission to help with the bike, he lifts his hand to grab the handles from her. “I’m sorry, you must be level 4 friend to unlock the tragic story known as my childhood.” he jokes, lips edging into a slight smirk while he made a gesture with his head. “I didn’t fall off a bike, but my foot did get caught up between those metal rims of the bike wheel on my brother’s mountain bike. Needless to say, I never tried again after that.”

"Of course I do! I’m only human, aren’t I?” she gushed, batting her eyelashes at him. “I’m sure that’s not true. I’d imagine you have plenty of worthwhile skills.” Raising an eyebrow at him, she paused just long enough to ensure the tone of suggestion in her words as usual. “Wow, I’m offended. What level am I on? If I’m not on at least level three by this point, I might just cry” she teased, going as far to reach up and wipe an imaginary tear from her eye. “Ouch. That sounds really painful” she started, scrunching up her face at just the idea. “Now I’m terrified to even get on the thing if that’s a possibility. You might have just ruined my entire day.”

“You did, but I still detected some rudeness mixed in there. I guess I’ll forgive you because you did try to save it. And you’re too cute to be mad at.” He reached over to pinch her cheek jokingly, grinning. “It’s not rejection, it’s just saving you from the awkward situation of him turning you down later because he’s more into dudes. You just get confirmation one way or the other.” Though her enthusiasm for his second plan made him chuckle. “See? I told you! Also, oi! Cut that out. I have to keep these leg in perfect shape somehow don’t I?”

“That just means I really like you, it’s like playground tactics. Treat ‘em mean to keep ‘em keen, you know" she excused. As he pinched her cheek, she crinkled her nose at him, far too smug to even attempt looking annoyed. “But you know how short my attention span is. There’s a very high chance of me getting bored of him quicker than him - wait. Why are we so sure he’s gay?” she asked, shaking her head but laughing still. “What? It’s a perfectly valid question. The way I’m imagining it is that your knees are all bent up cause the pedals aren’t far enough away and you’re swaying all over the place, it’s a pretty funny image actually.”

Her eyes shifted between Seth and the flowers multiple times before she spoke, clear confusion etched into her features. “Are those for me?” she asked, reluctantly reaching out to take the bunch. “Why?” Looking up from the flowers, she narrowed her gaze on them. “I mean, they’re nice I guess. I’m not really a flowers kind of girl but that’s not really the point. I know things were a little... heated last time we spoke but you really didn’t need to.. do this. I’m a grown woman, I can handle an argument.”

Approaching Seth’s house, she decided to let herself in rather than knock - the door was open and, while she was a little early, he knew she was coming so she figured the timing didn’t matter. But, apparently it did matter as she entered his house and immediately came into contact with a half naked Seth. “Oh.” It didn’t take long for her eyes to leave his face and linger on his chest for, admittedly, far too long. “I thought I was just coming to drop off my sister’s late papers but hey, if you had other ideas in mind then I’m definitely not complaining.”

Maybe I just get both a coffee to actually help my brain process and a hot chocolate just for holiday cheer.” he said realizing he pinned a little too much sarcasm on the holiday cheer and smiled a bit more to try to play it of as genuine excitement. “How’ve you been?”

“Two drinks? Wow, you really are treating yourself. Next you’ll be telling me you’re ordering a slice of cake too” she teased, laughing a little. “Me? As fabulous as always. I get really busy with work around this time of year so I haven’t had much chance to properly take in all the chaos that comes along with Christmas but what about you? You seem a little overwhelmed.”

Today had gone from good to bad to worse, Chris decided as she sat outside her door with a groan, realizing she’d left her keys at work and was stuck outside. It wouldn’t have bothered her quite so much if she didn’t look like such a wreck with her make up running a little and obvious signs that she’d been crying on her face. Chris liked to think she was a bit stronger than that by now, but here she was sitting on her doorstep and feeling as though she was about to burst into tears again at an moment. the fact that the scene was so pathetic only made her feel worse. Seeing someone pass by, she made a quick attempt to wipe off her face as she called out to them. “Um… excuse me…. could I borrow your phone for a second? Please…”

Heading to the bar, Sayra was happily strolling down the street at a fast pace, excited to reach her destination but she stopped at the sound of a familiar voice. Her eyes widened as she saw Chris, mostly at the way that she looked but also because she had no idea the two lived so close. That was assuming it was her own doorstep she was sat on. “My phone? Uh, sure.” Turning to face Chris and pulling her phone out of her pocket before holding it out towards her. “If you don’t mind me saying, well I’d say it even if you did mind but, you look terrible. I thought I’d be more pleased to see you not at your best but it’s oddly... worrying. If you’re crying over a guy then I can tell you that no man is worth your tears but, if you’re crying for another reason - well, I probably have less experience in that area but I’m a surprisingly good listener. Sometimes.”

“And that’s why I’m so perf -” Her sentence was interrupted by the sudden presence of Zoey’s lips against hers, Sayra’s eyes still wide open as she froze from shock. After a second or two, she closed her eyes and even returned the kiss a little - more due to a love of kissing rather than a desire to be actually kissing Zoey but it wasn’t long before she came to her senses and pulled away. “Well that was... unexpected” she started, letting out an awkward chuckle but cutting her laughter short in case Zoey thought she was laughing at her. “Was that like a spur of the moment thing or have you been habouring a secret love and obsession for me?” she asked, her eyes lighting up with glee. “I honestly couldn’t blame you and I’m sure you’re not the only one in town who feels the same way but I’m still straight, babe. Sorry.”

“Here,” Zoey said, almost forcibly offering a candy cane as the person passed her, not caring who it was. She just needed to get rid of the damn things. “Take this. Don’t ask, just fucking take it. And Merry Christmas or whatever,” she muttered, as always sounding more than a little lackluster.

Blinking as a candy cane was shoved at her, Sayra looked up with a growing smirk as she noticed Zoey was the one handing them out. “What? - Thanks?” Her expression was curious but she still couldn’t wipe the smirk off of her face. “Merry Christmas to you too, I didn’t have you down as someone who got into the spirit of things.”

–  “Shit, shit, shit.” A thick Irish accent can be heard as the petite brunette attempts to catch the application form before it falls to the sopping ground below her. Juggling coffee in one hand and her work folders in the other is proving to be a harder task than she anticipated, she sighs as she bends down to pick up the soaked through paper. “Fuckin’ brilliant.” She looks up and notices the other standing nearby. “Could I possibly ask you a favour?”

Watching the scene with a smile tugging on her lips, it was cruel how amusing Sayra found other people struggling to be but she’d lost the ability to feel guilty for it years ago. Once the girl addressed her, however, she took a few steps closer. “Depends on what the favour is. If it’s something simple then the answer is probably yes. If it requires effort then it’s only a maybe.”

The diner seemed to be pretty overcrowded and trying to juggle a laptop in one hand and his food in the other, Shane quickly set his sights on the only open seat. Clearing his throat, he looked down at the person sitting at the table. “Is this seat taken?”

Sayra had been ready to leave, she’d finished eating a while ago and was selfishly taking up a seat but as she spotted the man heading her way, she changed her mind and stayed put. Looking up at him with a smile, she gestured towards the seat and nodded. “No, I’m all alone” she sighed. “I could use a little company. Especially that of a handsome stranger.”
