on a scale from Jaime Lannister to Harwin Strong how much effort do you put into having a meaningful if risky relationship with your three (3) illegitimate royal execution-worthy treason offense babies
House of the Dragon + in memoriam: Harwin Strong
Jacaerys: Is it true, are we bastards?
Rhaenyra: Just because I do not make you wear a horrible wig like the rest of this family-
Ser Harwin Strong: I will return I promise.
Me: Yikes. I already knew you wouldn't, but if I hadn't, I would totally know now. Why would you, as a fictional character, even say that
I fully understand that the preponderance of evidence is that George Lucas put absolutely zero thought into what Naboo’s culture was actually supposed to look like outside of what we see on screen, but as far as unintentionally effective worldbuilding goes, establishing that Naboo a. has a tradition of electing literal children as figurehead rulers of its planetary government, and b. apparently also has a tradition of assassinating these children with sufficient frequency that dressing up a bunch of other children as decoy targets has become standard operating procedure by the time of Padmé Amidala’s reign suggests that maybe the fact that this random backwater is a breeding ground for Sith Lords isn’t as unlikely as it initially appears.
#yes! this is what i’ve been saying! #i’ve always headcanoned that the reason they have child monarchs in the first place #is to try and discourage the assassination attempts #like #alright i know you’ve poisoned our last five queens #but this one’s an adorable child! #you wouldn’t poison a CHILD would you? #and even if you would no you wouldn’t #because ACTUALLY you’ve poisoned the decoy
#and like… headcanon part 2: if I were trying to discourage assassination attempts #you know who I’d recruit to be my handmaids and decoys? #that’s right: the daughters of my political rivals #you thought you poisoned the queen? #psych you idiot that’s the minister of finance’s niece #fuck it maybe that’s YOUR niece
#sure you haven’t seen her since the Queen ‘invited’ her to join the Royal retinue #but are you really gonna risk it? #better to just cool it on the poisonings for a bit isn’t it? #try out this fun new thing called ‘diplomacy’ i really think you’ll like it!
#and like– maybe they did cool it and Naboo as a society moved on from that era #and kept the trappings as a reminder of how far they’ve come #or maybe they didn’t and the whole system is just threats behind smiling faces #who knows! certainly not us outsiders! I’ve heard Naboo’s a peaceful society and very fond of diplomacy actually #and what a quaint little government they have! their queen’s fourteen i hear #how very… sweet (via @allogrim )
One of Padme’s handmaids was her opponent in the election she won
criston cole should not only be expelled from the kingsguard but also get put to death for what he did, this is plain bad writing
But seriously, Jofrrey dying in a tourney would have been fair game, but a Kingsguard, for reasons he would not say, breaking the rules of hospitality and murdering the King’s guest???
A fiery young maiden, freshly flowered, Lady Laena had inherited the beauty of a true Targaryen from her mother, Rhaenys, and a bold, adventurous spirit from her father, the Sea Snake. As Lord Corlys loved to sail, Laena loved to fly, and had claimed for her own no less a mount than mighty Vhagar, the oldest and largest of the Targaryen dragons since the passing of the Black Dread in 94 AC. – Fire and Blood
I get that they need to compress everything a lot in HotD and a lot of characters show up for a super short time only to get killed off, especially with the time jumps. But why why why didn’t we get more of Laena. More of her friendship with Rhaenyra, or how her marriage started out. Or a whole episode just about how she first bonded with Vhagar. Anything.
The level of detail that exist in this dress alone and all the others costumes we have already seen is definitely the best thing ever, they deserve all the praise for this.
Every week we see more and more beautiful dresses and style clothing and I’m always excited to see what the new episode will bring to us. It’s really something to admire. The level just keeps getting higher and higher in each episode. Top tier television show.
And also my favorite ones, besides the dresses, are the armors. Because they have so much detail and they’re so related to the Houses. It’s gorgeous, eye-catching and powerful to see them in the battlefield. I love to see when Daemon’s armor has lots of little dragons and specially the dragon-helmet he wore in the first episode was just amazing.
Alicent: hey, Criston, do you know anything about maybe Rhaenyra and Daem-
Criston: YOU’RE RIGHT, I ADMIT IT! IT WAS ME! IT WAS MY SIN! PLEASE, I BEG OF YOU, SIMPLY BE MERCIFUL AND KILL ME!
Alicent: what the fuck
#she may be The Queen That Never Was, but she is MY QUEEN™️
Eve Best as Princess RHAENYS TARGARYEN GOT’s HOUSE OF THE DRAGON 1.05 We Light The Way
I commissioned this art of Morwen from @lycheesodas !
I’ve always absolutely loved her style and the detail work in the fabrics, patterns and scenery!
I chose Heather flowers because of the connection with the House of Bëor and rosemary and yarrow because they’re two herbs that could potentially fit the climate of both Dorthonion and Hithlum
Thank you so much for the beautiful art
She is using her scarf to stim with for the record
I cant believe Daemon thinks rhea royce is ugly
HotD 1x05 impressions:
Rhea Royce deserved so much better. I despise Daemon this episode and can’t wait for Jeyne Arryn to kick his ass down the mountain.
Laena <333 (... actually, every Velaryon <333)
umm killing someone by cracking their helmet at a tourney =/= THAT at the feast. The first one is an accident (or at least no one can prove whether the hit was harder than necessary). Pretty sure a Kingsguard wouldn’t get away with the latter, Viserys would have had to punish him. Quite possibly the Wall or even execution, considering Joffrey Lonmouth’s rank, the setting and the lack of obvious provocation. I can’t even judge Criston Cole for this because it’s just so implausible that he could do this and then just continue serving in the Kingsguard with no consequence. Oh and become the next Lord Commander. I’m not against most other changes HotD made so far to the asoiaf wiki F&B, and I get why they didn’t want to have another tourney so soon after the first episode just to show that Ser Criston is having a bad time, but when something seems so implausible that I have to look up what “actually” happened immediately... not good :(
this episode’s favorite male character is Harwin Strong
