latest completed commission, featuring Morwen shortly after her arrival in Doriath. a quick shoutout to @outofangband, for their posts on Morwen have had me rotating her in my brain forever and overall very much helped create an image of her that I really drew on for this, especially this post which I really loved, about her general dismissiveness of the elves, most specifically and delightedly, taking a ‘lol lmao’ attitude to Fingon and Turgon themselves.

I started this a while ago and always continued it while watching a series or something like that 😅. I just really wanted to draw human faces and wanted to give all those nameless wives at least a face. I really really hate that Hiril's husband and her daughters husband gets a name even though they are technically not members of the chieftain line.

I believe today, June 26th, is the day that the Nírnaeth ended, when Fingon was killed and the defeat of the Noldor and their allies was cemented. Huor fell pierced with a venomed arrow to his eye and the men of Hador were slaughtered in the fens of Serech after defending Turgon’s retreat. Húrin was captured after his dramatic final stand.

The descriptions of this in The Silmarillion and The Children of Húrin especially to me are so vivid and strangely beautiful; the swords like a forest, the sons of Fëanor scattered like leaves in the wind, the sun setting upon the blood soaked rivulets of Serech and the strong winds building.

The line about night falling in Hithlum is especially grim to me knowing what is to befall Aerin, Morwen and all those left in Dor-lómin, as well as the displacement of many of the Sindar of Mithrim. The devastation of the Nírnaeth gives way to so much more horror.

Thus ended the Nírnaeth Arnoediad as the sun went down beyond the sea.

Anyways I hope you all have a better day than this poor cast of characters.
