THE  EVENING  WANES;  there’s  been  good  food,  decent  wine  (  or,  more  pointedly,  wine  that  didn’t  come  out  of  a  suspicious  cellar  that  had  likely  been  abandoned  for  months  ),  and  easy  conversation.  At  times,  joined  by  others  ——  there’s  been  a  bit  more  levity  tonight,  brought  about  by  small  victories  and  small  steps  forward.  These  days,  that’s  all  they  can  ask.  

It’s  not  precisely  planned.  It  just  kind  of  happens  ——  a  lull  in  conversation,  that  way  their  eyes  meet:  a  linger,  a  little  flood  of  something  warm  that  he  can’t  tell  is  just  a  little  too  much  wine  or  something  else  entirely.  Either  way,  he  smiles  ——  and  he  leans  in:  slow,  a  little  tentative,  giving  far  too  many  escape  routes.  But  then  ——  it’s  warm,  soft,  lingering. 

He  tastes  faintly  of  wine,  red  and  heady,  and  when  it  breaks  he  slips  back  just  a  fraction,  though  the  smile  doesn’t  fade.  ❝  I  hope  I’m  not  being  presumptuous.  ❞  A  pause,  and  the  smile  grows  just  a  little;  his  voice  stays  quiet,  just  between  the  two.  ❝  Though  I  suppose  that’s  something  I  could  have  said  before,  shouldn’t  I.  ❞

cheeks flush and a sudden warmth washed over her face as gale slipped back a little. there was a soft chuckle as she bit the bottom of her lip gently, tasting the wine left behind.

she wasn't sure what led him to kiss her ( heat of the moment or the wine, she could not tell ) but she was not about to complain. it was a pleasant surprise and one to add just a bit more joy to a day that had already gone as smoothly as it had. like a little cherry on top or the perfect little bow on a present.

the smile aoife held on her face quickly faded as she turned her gaze toward the elf, her mouth slightly agape at the poor delivery of his lie. she was honestly surprised and a bit horrified he had lied so terribly. the bard was unsure if she could salvage his lie, but she figured it could be worth the shot. at best, she deceives the guard and they can carry on, and at worst, she fails and they end up in jail ( or a fight ).

it took only a split second for aoife to regain composure, her ever-bright smile on her lips as she stepped forward to address the guard. ❝ forgive him. he gets a little self-conscious. it happens to the best of us. ❞ she spoke. ❝ it's true though. he is a noble of baldur's gate. look at him, so noble, and i am his humble advisor. i do most of his talking, as you saw how well he did it himself. i have tried to get him to try and be more talkative with others, but the shyness. really dampens his natural charm. ❞

she peeked over at aurelien before clearing her throat. ❝ so if you don't mind, ❞ her gaze focused back on the guard as she stepped past him, ❝ we must really be getting on. important meetings and aristocratic stuff. time is money and money isn't free! ❞ she gave a subtle gesture for the elf to follow her as she hurried away from the guard, praying that he would just wave them off.
