oodlesofstrudelnoodlesâ:
Stevie hesitated for a moment before shrugging with a bit of an embarrassed smile. âI donât know. My brother might. Heâs a knight so he knows a lot more about the places than me.â She, after all, kept pretty close to home.
Unless she got distracted and wandered off further than she meant to. âI could ask him if youâre staying in Monstadt for a little while.â
âAh, your brother is one of the knights? I suppose I could also ask my own body guard they assigned me. Decided not to bother him today since it didnât seem super dangerous out here at the moment.â That and he was a little distracting to her sometimes. âDo you come out here by yourself often?âÂ
oodlesofstrudelnoodlesâ:
âThatâs so neat!â It sounded like a lot of work if Stevie was honest but if you enjoyed it she supposed it wasnât any hardship. She couldnât help a shiver at the mention of the mountain.  âI wish you the best Aerith. I wouldnât want to go up there.âÂ
She laughed. âWell Iâm glad someone thinks so. Most people say itâs boring work.â And while this task was one of the most tedious and boring, she still found some enjoyment from it.  âItâs been quite the weather difference here. Iâm visiting from Sumeru where itâs either hot and humid, or hot and dry. Iâm going to have to wear every layer I brought to stand a chance with that mountain.â âI heard it was cold, but itâs a new level.... people donât live there do they?â
oodlesofstrudelnoodlesâ:
She nodded. âItâs easy to avoid their camps if you know where they are.â Surprisingly Stevie actually paid attention to that but then again her life could be on the line if she wasnât. âPlants? What kind?â Didnât her brother mention something about a plant researcher in passing? Â
âMmmhmm, flowers, grass, even the types of trees. I need to make note of where they all are so I can gather samples from different environments.â She sighed a little. âThis part of the process takes the longest. Iâm not looking forward to that big cold mountain.âÂ
oodlesofstrudelnoodlesâ:
âItâs really nice to meet you, Aerith.â Had she seen the woman before? Maybe. Whether or not she had registered the sighting was more the question rather than if she had seen Aerith before. âI live here.â She answered cheerfully. âWere you trying to get somewhere?â
âOh a local! Suppose that explains why youâre all the way out here alone. I feel like one wrong turn and you run into a group of hilichurls if you arenât familiar.â She understood why they made her wait until they got someone to escort her now. âI donât have an exact location in mind. Iâve been marking the locations of the various types of plant life here. I havenât finished this area yet.â Â
oodlesofstrudelnoodlesâ:
âThey did.â Stevie giggled as she dropped her handful of rocks back into the basket. âTheyâre not exactly fragile.â Having collected everything, she brushed off her hands and offered a bright smile. âIâm Stevie.â
âWell thatâs a cute name.â She shook the dirt off her map, carefully folding it in half. The amount of times this thing had flown out of her hands were far too many. This place was so windy. âIâm Aerith. Are you from around here or also traveling through?âÂ
oodlesofstrudelnoodlesâ:
@radiantgardener
âOh, sorry.â Stevie hadnât been paying as much attention as she should have. But as usual her head was up in the clouds rather than ground where she was walking as it should have been.
Which, of course, led her to bump into the pretty older woman and spilling the contents of her basket, mostly bits of colored glass and rock. âUm, I wasnât paying attention. Are you alright?â
Aerith had been a bit preoccupied with her own work, the large map she had been holding fluttered down from her hands at the sudden interruption. âDonât worry, takes a bit more than that to knock me over.â Bending down, she started to help scoop up the fallen items. âHopefully your little collection here has faired better.â

âYou could say that.â He glanced to her.  âSheâs about six years younger than me.â And that was really all he was going to say for now. There was a very real chance that Aerith would have no opportunity to meet his sister, anyway.
Just as they were heading down a road, he glanced over his shoulder to see a group of the aforementioned monsters hopping after them.
âAh, here are our guests,â he said.  âLooking for a fight right out of the gate.â
Well that didnât tell her much, he had such a young, pretty face it was hard to guess an age for him.  âDonât suppose theyâre here to give a lovely little send off.â Aerith was curious to see how well he could fight. Had to know how much she could entrust her own life to him after all. âJust be sure to watch out for the ones that like to charge. They hit a lot harder than you would think.â
ofmusicandmagicâ:
âWell, I suppose if anyone was going to do it, Iâm the one with the most experience,â he said with a chuckle.  âIâve spent much of my life making sure my younger sister doesnât do exactly such things.â Not that his sister was a researcher. Stevie was just a bit flighty. Not like sheâd ever gotten harmed too badly from it or anything.
As soon as they were out of the city, it was obvious that there were monsters lurking around.  âWe should probably hurry if you donât want to have to stop for me to get rid of the Fungi.â
Pulling out a sister comparison? Ouch. âAh so you are a protective older brother type...Now when you say younger... how much younger?â She just hoped she wasnât being being compared to a child.Â
Regardless, she did join him in quickening her pace. The Fungi didnât normally bother her too much, but when they got into groups they got real nasty.Â

He found himself arching his eyebrows.  ââŠdo you usually leave the stove on when you leave the country?â Was it a serious question, or was he joking? He deliver it in such a sincere-sounding way that it was hard to tell.
ââŠeither way, yes, letâs head out. If you donât mind, I can lead the way for now.â
âLead on sir knight.â Was it an excuse so she could walk a few paces behind to continue checking him out? Maaaaybe. He didnât need to know that.Â
âWell, there was one little fire mishap when I left for a trip to the nearby rainforests for a few days. My neighbors never let me live it down. I just get a little too focused on my research that I forget things around me and go on auto pilot.â She might as well admit to that if he was going to be following her around. âBuuut, thatâs where youâll come in. To be my watchful eyes for any dangers looking to attack a venerable woman that is unaware of her surroundings.â
ofmusicandmagicâ:
He considered her for a moment before nodding.
âYes, my name is Tempera. The Knights of Favonius assigned me to escort you to Mondstadt and guard you while you do your research.â
He at least had the decency to give her a smile.  âIf youâre ready, we may be able to get to Liyue by sundown. Traveling can be dangerous at night, especially with the Treasure Hoarders skulking around. The miners do have camps set up in the Chasm, though.â
âAhh yes, the letter did mention you are from Mondstadt, a trip you are now making twice. Well pleasure to meet you Tempera, hopefully the trip will only be slightly eventful. Wouldnât want you to get too bored.â She gave her bag a pat before motioning towards the path. âIâve got everything I need, and no stoves fires have been left on this time. Iâm not on a tight schedule, but yeah the idea of traveling at night isnât super appealing.âÂ

Heâd been there for a while and was starting to wonder if this mysterious academic had decided she wasnât going to go. It was a hassle, sure, but he couldnât necessarily blame her if she realized she didnât have what it took to go out and do all this. He only knew a bit about the research she needed to conduct, but it sounded like a lot.
And then just as he was thinking of going to talk to someone, someone approached him first.
A momentary pause, and then, ââŠI believe you might be looking for me? Would your name be Aerith?â
She was trying to hide her sudden shock, face frozen in a half grin before shaking her head and speaking again. âYeeeees it would be actually. So then youâre the unfortunate soul they sent all the way out here to escort me?â Unfortunate for him maybe, but one quick glance up and down and she felt that maybe she was lucky after all. Truly she expected some sort of gruff, stoic type that would maybe say two words before ushering her to get moving.

@radiantgardener for Genshin verse
Escorting people wasnât an out of the ordinary mission for him. People werenât always fighters, but they still needed to get where they needed to go without worrying about monsters. Mostly heâd been on teams to escort merchant carts and caravans, though.
And it had lasted a day, at most. Apparently, he was being assigned to watch over a member of the Sumeru Akademiya for as long as she was in Mondstadt doing her research.
Which included going to Sumeru so he could escort her through Liyue and to her destination, which took a few days by foot, at least. For someone who rarely got assignments outside the general area of the city, it was certainly a change of pace.
Heâd been told to meet up with her at the Akademiya building, where sheâd have what she needed already packed and ready to go. So here he was, getting strange looks from scholars as he waited by a bulletin board for his guest.
It felt like she had been preparing for this trip for ages. In fact she had been about 95% packed for a week. Of course, waiting for approvals to go through and getting someone willing to travel along with her took time. There were several times Aerith considered telling them she could just guard herself, but that would hinder her research too much. Someone had to be able to keep watch while she was stuck crouching in weird places to study root systems and take samples.
Now that the day was here, she was having to think about the fact she would be traveling long distances with a stranger. When it came to these muscle-heads, you never knew what you were in for. Aerith just hoped they would be tolerable.Â
At the designated meeting place though, there was only one person standing around that looked out of place, and did not look like he could be the right person. Her luck wasnât that good. The note on her door had said they were here already. âUgh, donât tell me they wandered off.â
Approaching the man with a smile, she gave a small wave. âHello, sorry to bother you, but did you happen to see someone else also waiting around here in the past oh... hour or so?â

Had to draw Aerith in a Genshin Impact AU too because itâs fun
Sheâs a researcher with the akademiya, traveling around Teyvat to study every regionâs flora and fauna, as well as their medicinal properties.Â
