Contrary to American political fears, Christ’s sacrifice was especially for: the outcast, abandoned, oppressed, dangerous, and undeserving.

I am tired of being human. And angry at feeling so much love. Some days I am angry just to be alive.
Clarice Lispector, from “Excess and Privation,” Selected Cronicas (via godoftheoppressed)
I’m sorry I haven’t been around much here. I’ve been having some faith trouble lately and I’m pretty sure God is punishing me for it.
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
Psalm 56:3 (via abibleverseforeachday)
Revelation 1:8
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27 (via abibleverseforeachday)
I’m eye-rolling so hard at anyone who suggests YHWH is misogynistic. I suppose it’s convenient to ignore heroic victors and prophets like Miriam and Hannah and, God forbid, Esther. I guess Ruth and Naomi- living together boldly and lovingly- isn’t feminist enough for you. And, of course, showing Mary as the only human in the world fit to bear God Himself is clearly anti-woman. And let’s not even TOUCH the Quran, which clearly defends and outlines rights for women better than any other religious text I’ve read. Ever. But sure. YHWH hates women.
And don’t forget my favorites: Deborah and Jael!
Morning Prayer
The Lord is my strength and my refuge; the Lord has become my Savior. This is my God and I will praise him, the God of my people and I will exalt him. ~ The Song of Moses
It is by what we say about humanity that we very often make clearest what we believe about God.
Rowan Williams (via blakebaggott)
Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God

Westernized Christians have been so inundated with consumerism that they mistakenly associate wealth with spirituality. Thus, the poor are often perceived as the ones who need Christ the most. Ironically, the impoverished often have faith that is stronger and healthier than those who are rich—depending on God through all circumstances and not getting complacent through comfort and possessions.

“A church that doesn’t provoke any crisis, a gospel that doesn’t unsettle, a word of God that doesn’t get under anyone’s skin, a word of God that doesn’t touch the real sin of the society in which it is being proclaimed – what gospel is that?”
Archbishop Oscar Romero (via jboygonzalessj)
O God, my kind mother, My gracious mother, My beloved mother, Have mercy on us.

Evening Prayer
If I have uttered idle words or vain, if I have turned aside from want or pain, Lest I offend some other through the strain, Dear Lord, forgive. Amen. ~ C. Maude Battersby
I don’t understand anti-science Christians.
I mean, what are you afraid of?
God designed everything. Every star, every flower, every heart that beats. It’s all a testament to His great love and great power. If you truly believe that God is powerful, why fear learning about the wonder of His works? If it is discovered, if it can be known, He intends for it to be known. He reveals Himself in the wonderful glory of His world.
Are you afraid that somehow, somewhere, there is something in nature or medicine or psychology that will be God’s great undoing? That somewhere there is something to disprove Him?
Do you really serve such a small God?
this post is actually getting notes and i could not be prouder
I am so close to leaving the United Methodist Church. I need a denomination that is LGBTQIA affirming, pro-choice, and supportive of women in ministry. But I don’t think I’ll find one with all three. :/
I don’t know what to do anymore.
