Detroit’s very own HAV came out the gates swinging with punchlines, clever metaphors, and lyrical skill on his new project, RapDealer.
Back in mid November, HAV partnered up with Underground Detroit to celebrate the release of the project. The eleven track album has features from Amerikkken, Auntie Jo, Pat RZL, and Sheeb, with production from Rxddie, Ysp, Shizzmane and Don Kevo.
On the track "RapDealer," HAV raps as if he's a drug dealer, but instead of dealing drugs he's dealing out raps. He flows over a banging production with 808s, high hats, ticks, and bells. Within the first bar he says:
"The rap game and the dope game is the same thing if your eyes open, move work like a nine to five that I can't keep cause the job closing"
The song "O.D(More Fiends)" has a much more boom-bap sound with a laid back vibe. This song showed off his lyrical ability as soon as the beat dropped.
"This the story of the rap addict, pragmatic, Einstein mind bending rhymes like a damn savage"
Followed by a catchy hook:
"Feel like I'm about O.D can you pray with me, can you hold me, had to travel by my lonely, I didn't chose this life but it chose me."
All throughout RapDealer, HAV is giving out witty metaphors, showing off his lyrical stature. He demonstrates his versatility by energetically flowing over 808 production on certain tracks, then gives the listener a chill, laid back vibe on other tracks. Daniel Hex did not come to play! He is bringing in 2020 with a banger.
His newest track “Godspeed” was released January 7, 2020. It is a dynamic song suggesting that others trust themselves; and although it can be difficult at times, this life is yours.
The song starts out with an incredible yet catchy quotable:
“When life starts testing it’s hard to be gracious.”
During the intro of the song, you first hear wind like instrumentals and a dog barking in the background, emphasizing the feelings of being alone. As the beat comes in, you can feel the build up to the exhaustion he feels from trying to get to where he wants to be. Hex goes on to deliver more clever lyrics:
“Some of our dreams are feeling farther now, reach into the sky and make the stars come out.”
He uses these words to inspire his audience to take control of their destiny.
The music video was even more enthralling! Liam Walsh directed with astounding vision. It takes place in the forest with Hex’s companions, then cuts into different angles of the group posing and also doing a variety of things that make them unique. Some are modeling, some are doing photography, and others are working on music.
During these scenes Hex repeats,
“You know it. Don’t doubt it. You know it. Don’t cry it out.”
