Summary: A prelouge to a possible series
“my darling Aleksander, I know that eternity is a long time, but it doesn’t feel like it when I can spend it with you. You are my other half, the darkness to my light, i wouldn’t feel whole without you. I will love you until the end and then some more.”
Standing in a beautiful white dress, Eleya couldn’t help but smile. Today was they day she’d finally marry the man of her dreams. Her Aleksander. He stood dressed in a black kefta his eyes shining bright.
The marriage between a sun summoner and a shadow summoner. The 2 most powerful grisha. They would lead the second army to a more prosperous time. A time where grisha weren’t seen as witches or devilspawn, but as heroes. The couple was adored by the country, Eleya and Aleksander stood for a perfect balance. Until greed got to one of them. He wanted to be more, he knew that he and his wife could lead the country better than the king. He was right, they cared more for the citizens than any of the nobles. He tried to gain more power by advising the king, but it went too slow. The people were in need, they didn’t have time to wait. So Aleksander resorted to using merzost.
A black cloud spread over the country, dividing it into west and east Ravka. A darkness so powerful it drained people from their humanity, creating flying abominations that wouldn’t hesitate to eat people.
When Aleksander returned home his wife was waiting for him. “My love, what happened?,” she asked, hoping it was some sort of accident, that her sweet husband didn’t create what the people already called an unsea. “Isn’t it wonderful, darling we can use this, and not just rule Ravka, but the entire world. You and me together.”
“Oh my Aleksander, I can’t follow you on this path. One day we shall see each other and be together again, but now I have to leave. I will wait for you, we still have the rest of eternity to find each other.”
Eleya left that day. Changing her hair and clothes. She traded her kefta in for a commoners dress. She altered her hair and went by a new name, waiting for her dear Aleksander to change his mind.
Eleya went by many names over the past centuries. Right now she was known as Alina Starkov, a map maker in the first army. Eleya became weaker over the pass of time, she couldn’t use her powers often and it took a toll on her body. And today was not the day for her tiredness. For today she had to face the creation that tore her heart in half, the fold. In all those centuries after she had left she didn’t once dear to go there. She never knew exactly why she avoided it, it may be because it was a reminder of a past life, or the guilt she felt. As his wife she was always by his side, could she have stopped it?
She had made friends over the last years, her closest at the moment was a tracker named Malyen Oretsev. The two of them spend every waking moment together, if Alina ever got in trouble Malyen would be there to punch her way to freedom. And Alina still had her ways with manipulation, using it to get Mal out of trouble when he punched someone for her. He was her best friend and when they entered the fold he was there to protect her against the dark. Of course he didn’t understand why her apprehension towards the fold was so much larger than those of most. He didn’t know she was there when it was created, that she knew some of the people trying to kill them right at that moment. And he certainly did not understand why Alina flinched at the sight of the darkling’s carriage.
When they entered the fold Alina hid close to Mal. She knew she was safe but some part of her wanted that reassurance that Mal would be too. Then Mal got attacked, and as a reflex Alina created a light, so bright it scared all the volcra’s away. So much light it drained Alina, but she knew the charade was over and soon she’d be reunited with her dear Aleksander.
