DBT is a type of therapy used to help people manage their emotions, improve relationships, get through a crisis and focussing on the present moment.
These skills are developed by practicing the skills outlined in the four main sections of DBT. Those four sections are mindfulness, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance.
Mindfulness skills teach you to live in the present moment without judgement or attachment to the moment.
Emotional regulation skills primarily help you learn how to reduce your vulnerability to emotions, identify your emotions, and change your emotions.
Interpersonal effectiveness skills help you learn how to get your needs met, maintain healthy relationships and end unhealthy relationships in a safe way.
Distress tolerance skills help you get through a crisis without making the situation harder to get through and provide coping skills for overwhelming emotions.
I’ll be posting DBT skills as I practice them to help me stay accountable by helping others understand the skills as well.
