Tangled Garden 2.0
Met Expectations
There have been five different restaurants at this location in recent memory. Two Indian restaurants, one very good, one wood fired pizza joint that was excellent, a good cafe, and a BBQ joint that was really, really bad.
Hopefully Tangled Garden can survive whatever it is that causes restaurants at the location to not be successful.
Moe's Shawarma
Met Expectations
It's great to have a decent local shawarma place. While it's not destination shawarma, it is definitely worth dropping in if you are in the area.
Café Postino
Met Expectations
Sometimes you need someone else to satisfy your fettuccine Alfredo craving.
Black Tartan Kitchen
Good as Always
The tasting menus are above and beyond. Ian showcases local farms and producers, lovingly crafting and describing each course. It is hard to imagine a restaurant this good in a town this size.
No better place to celebrate Fay's 65th.

Pelican Seafood Market and Grill

We stopped on the way to the airport and that was likely a mistake. Worrying about the flight departure time had us rushing through the meal. Granted, the ambience has a certain cafeteria vibe to it. But we did not do justice to the the quality of the meal. A more leisurely return visit is warranted.
Kungfu Bistro
Pleasantly Surprised
The pandemic changed so many things, and almost entirely for the worse. One positive thing that came out of the pandemic is the proliferation of restaurants offering take-away. Want dinner and a cozy night in? These days, you can get pretty much any food you want. The downside of take-away is you get your food many minutes, or even tens of minutes, after it was prepared. And the food loses a little something (or a lot something) while in transit.
Kungfu Bistro is one of our favourite cozy night in meals. This time we ate at the restaurant. Food was good as always, but we were surprised at just how much better it was right from the kitchen.
It's gonna be harder to order for our cozy night in. Unless they are ok with us showing up in PJs.
Subway
Met Expectations
With aging parents who are less and less adventurous with food, safe and known is always a safe bet.
Not much else to say. It's Subway. It is what it is.
The Stone Cellar
Missed the Mark
A bistro with meatloaf on the menu? Hell yes.
Turns out, heck no. It felt more like a really thick hamburger patty, dry with little flavour other than the BBQ sauce on top.
The pesto gnocchi with pork tenderloin was very good.
Negi Indian Cuisine
Missed the Mark
It has always been reliable in the past. The mulligatawny was not so much a soup but a thick paste. The biryani was dry and lacked heat even though we ordered it spicy.
This has been a favourite stop on the way home from Arnprior when we did not feel like cooking. We might have to just stick to curries.
England Stats
A month in England. How did we fair?
We might have been living a little close to bakeries.
We should have spent more time hunting for nice lunch places. Work wasn't that busy.
We had both extremes in England. Hopefully only one of those continues.
EVOO
Good as always
The moussaka was way beyond comfort food. We need to come back here for a proper brunch.
Red Star Noodle Bar
Met Expectations
Chinese ramen? Hell yeah.
Santa Nata
Pleasantly Surprised
It was our first time having them warm.
It's gonna be great when we go to Portugal some day and they are everywhere.
The Handlebar Cafe & Kitchen
Pleasantly Surprised
Just wanted a decent breakfast the morning after a great Elles Bailey concert. Turns out we had a great breakfast after a great Elles Bailey concert.
Vaults and Garden
Met Expectations
Pretty damn good for a cafeteria style restaurant. Oxford students are lucky.
