5SOS AU: You’re bad news. Everyone knows it, especially Luke… yet he still finds himself hopelessly dedicated to you.
To call the relationship toxic is an understatement. Prior to meeting you, Luke actually had a lot going for himself. He was a talented musician on his way to fame, with friends and fans who adored him. He had ambition. Everything changed as soon as you walked into his life. Luke was utterly bewitched, body and soul. You had him under your spell, in the worst way. Luke completely transformed himself to fit your desires. His physical appearance was the first sign as his previously untouched skin was now drenched in ink. His songwriting revolved almost completely around you, and took on a much darker tone. Luke distanced himself from his friends to spend countless hours with you. All of these efforts to capture your attention almost seemed pathetic to you and your affections towards him for him were somewhat out of pity.
In addition to the change in his appearance, Luke adopted habits foreign to his prior self. These habits were mainly smoking and drinking, you’d convinced him that these were merely additives, necessary for enjoying life to the fullest. Luke acted like he didn’t give a damn and spoke with a foul mouth. He was on a road to self-destruction, and the more corrupted he became, the more he caught your attention. Luke called it love, but it was more like idolization. His friends certainly took notice of these drastic changes and desperately tried to pull him out of the hypnotic state you’d trapped him in. It was useless. Luke would do anything for you, he’d quite literally rip his heart out from his chest and give it to you if you asked. His devotion could be a nuisance at times, and other times you admired his resilience.
This evening found the two of you sat in your El Camino, parked in front of a convenient store. The neon light of the store’s ‘open’ sign buzzed, casting a red glow into the car. In the driver seat, you glanced at Luke with a long white cigarette hanging between your lips, burning slow. You took a long drag, while Luke lit one of his own. He looked over at you adoringly, whilst breathing out, adding to a thin cloud of smoke in the car.
You rested your hand on the steering wheel, removing the cig from your mouth and fiddling with it between your ring and middle finger. Not meeting his gaze you sighed, “Luke, you know this can’t work right?”
He sat up straight, coughing on the tobacco he just inhaled. He looked at you in disbelief, “What?”
Yo inhaled once more before answering, he watched you carefully, completely ignoring the burning cigarette in his own hand.
“C’mon babe. You know I’m no good for you. This was just a little phase for you. Your act of rebellion. You’re not this guy” you said gesturing to his figure.
He tossed his cigarette out the window, proceeding to face towards you. Almost pleading you to give him your attention, “Y/N, that’s not true. I love you, you know I do.”
You laughed, mocking his sincerity, you exhaled and glanced over at him, raising your eyebrows. “Luke, get real. It’s been fun, but don’t make this harder on yourself. You’re free now. Thanks for playing.” You lean over him opening his door.
You wave your hand as if to say ‘get lost’. But instead of doing so, he slams the door shut and grabs your arm. His strength overwhelming you, you’re forced to meet his eyes now and they’re full of electricity.
Now, you recognize your full affect on him. You’d never seen him so tense. When you first saw Luke, there was nothing but pure naivety attached to his presence. His eyes used to shine with morality. Now you could see how low he’s sunk. “You’re not leaving me. I won’t let you.”
You scoff escaping his tight grasp. Mimicking his previous act, you toss your cigarette butt out the window. You examine him, his eyes haven’t left yours. The smoke circulating mirrors the air of desperation he carries. You manage to grin at the sight. It didn’t matter that Luke was 6′4″, and probably appeared intimidating to anyone else, to you he was simply a lost puppy.
You rolled your eyes, “I’ve got enough problems without you clinging to me. Go. Away.” you looked toward the passenger door.
Once again he stood against you. “No. I’m not leaving.” You groaned, throwing your head back and running your fingers through your hair in frustration. He persisted despite your agitation, “What do I have to do to prove this is real. That I love y-”
You quickly cut him off, bringing your forehead to the steering wheel,” I know, I know”. You closed your eyes taking a deep breath. You gripped the steering wheel tightly with both hands, wanting to scream. You thought Luke would be disposable, but he was proving to be quite the challenge. Part of you wanted to throw him out and speed out of his life for good. But another part of you was glad he put up a fight. He’d grown on you. But he still didn’t know the real you. Would he still be begging to stay once he saw you for what you really were?
You decide to put him to the test. Finally, sitting up straight in your leather seat, you looked to Luke, with much more optimism this time. He still had the same wide-eyes, devoid of anything except worry. “You wanna prove it to me?” you say in a low voice, almost seductively.
He takes your hand eagerly, “Anything, Y/N.” the tone in his voice conveyed his sincerity. The word anything echoed in your ear, and a wicked smile spread across your face. You proceed to reach down under your seat, with Luke’s eyes following your every movement.
With nothing but the low red glow to illuminate the inside of your car, Luke focused in on your hand and what was in it. His expression immediately altered once you placed a gun in his lap. His eyes widened slightly as he looked from it to you. You maintained a straight face as you nodded towards the convenient store in front of you. Luke placed the gun in his left hand, analyzing the feel of the weapon in his hand, bouncing it slightly to measure its weight.
Luke looked at you once more, and back down to the firearm, gulping as he closed his eyes and drew a breath.deciding not to wait for him to make his decision, you made the first move by getting out of the car. There was a look of determination in your eyes, as if nothing would hold you back, especially not Luke. You could do this with or without him, like you’d done hundreds of times before. You reached for the ankle gun hidden under your denim, placing the weapon comfortably in your hands. You kicked open the door of the convenient store, immediately aiming it towards the lanky cashier, who had acquired petrified look on his blemished face.
There didn’t appear to be anyone else in the store which meant less witnesses. You fired at the cameras placed not-so discreetly in the corners of the building, then returned your weapon’s focus towards the shaky cashier.
“You know what to do” you said smiling at the boy. He hastily opened the register and began pulling out its contents. After handing you the cash he returned his hands to their surrendering position. You shoved the bills into your jacket pocket. backing out towards the way you came in.
Before making your great escape, a head popped up from one of the aisles in the back. The man also had a gun and he didn’t hesitate aiming it directly at you. You looked back and forth between the cashier and the stranger, you noticed the cashier lowly moving towards the emergency button placed under the counter. The strangers hands were wrapped confidently around the barrel of his gun and his finger was on the trigger, ready to pull. You began to sweat, feeling somewhat stuck. Before you could choose between the two, you heard the door swing open behind you and in an instant one gun fired and it wasn’t the man in the aisle.
In fact, the man in the aisle now had a gaping hole in his forehead, allowing a steady stream of blood to run down his face. You stood in disbelief when you saw Luke standing with the gun you’d given him. He looked as though he was in astonishment himself, staring at the gun. You gave him a smile before returning your attention to the cashier, who was even more terrified now than he had been before. At this point, you thought it best not to leave anyone behind. You sent a bullet straight through his brain, letting his body hit the ground.
Instinctively, the two of you bolted back to your car. While you prepared to send the vehicle in reverse, Luke slowed down for a moment and pulled your arm towards him. As soon as you turned to him he took your face in his hands and planted a kiss on your lips. It was a firm and meaningful kiss, sealing the deal. He was yours. Completely. Your heart was racing, yet you took this moment to slow down and indulge your self in the sweet act. Snapping back to the situation, you sped out of the empty parking lot, heading nowhere in particular. You could practically hear Luke’s heart beating straight out of his chest. You couldn’t help but giggle at his panicked state. He actually did it. Suddenly, you took notice of your own heart racing. Maybe it was the adrenaline, maybe it was the fact you were now pushing a hundred down the freeway, or maybe it was because you’d realized you loved Luke a lot more than you though you did.
With one free hand, you reached into your pocket and handed the cash to Luke, “Alright Hemmings, you’re not as pure as I thought” you looked over at him as gazed at the money, laughing as he began to count it. You leaned over to him, meeting his lips once again. Nothing can replace this high, you thought.
