BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (1991)
(by austinpedersen__)
Rediscovering that you're still alternative after years of trying to blend in is truly an experience...
Like, when I was a teenager, I was emo. I listened to emo bands, (tried to) wear makeup and alternative clothes, used a clearly alternative website (yes, Tumblr itself, I've been on and off since I was 12)... but I don't know, at some point I just stopped dressing like that. I wasn't dressing like a "normie" (actually, I hate that term, but just so you understand), but like a "soft alternative"? After discovering Dark Academia, I realized I was slowly getting back into more alternative styles, but with my own personality.
Like, I wouldn't say I'm a goth or anything, because it's not like I'm a goth music fan, but like... I started to embrace more my love for horror, for the grotesque, for more morbid things... I think I fit well into a joke I made a few years ago about a sub-style of Dark Academia which was Pastel Horror Academia... I like scary and cute things at the same time because I feel that way, I see myself that way.
Now that I have more alternative friends I've been feeling more comfortable exploring that side of me again and, honestly... it's a relief <3 i feel like i found myself again
