"How else would it go if not organically?" He smiled, teasing her now on purpose. "There's no need to be embarrassed, it's not like I'm not thinking the exact same thing."
He took her hand gently, "So, what about going to my place? I'd feel more comfortable away from the place you share with Dave, at the very least."
Erica pouted at his teasing, but the pout was replaced with a smile as Henry took her hand, she nodded, "would you want me to stay the night?" It wasn't as though her husband would be home that night, she was thinking she'd need to pack a bag if she was to stay over.
Henry entered the room quietly, and no matter how many times he'd seen such gruesome things, kids were always the hardest. He was struck with two powerful emotions when he saw Sophia lying there; profound sadness, and a spike of anger. Something like this shouldn't be able to happen to a child, there should be some universal law that prevented such a thing, much less at the hands of your own mother.
He closed his eyes and opened them again, looking around the room with what he called his 'third eye' to see if Sophia was still here in the hospital. She was not, just as he suspected. She had either passed on on her own, which he also thought unlikely, or she was at her home. And he supposed he'd found out for sure soon enough.
He didn't say anything, but rather observed her little broken body in a moment of silence.
After some time, he returned to Kid. "This is nothing short of a terrible tragedy, again, I'm so very sorry. No father should have to go through this."
Kid kept his eyes closed as he focused on his breathing, it was helping. He only opened them once he heard Henry's voice, the pirate had seen death many times, but when it was his own child, it was too difficult to process or accept.
He nodded and got up from the chair, he hadn't brought his cane as he'd been in such a rush to get to the hospital from the studio, he reached out for Henry, wanting to hold his arm not only for emotional support, but to help him walk, he felt so, weak in that moment. He said nothing, aside from when he let the nurses know that Sophia was gone.
It was only once he was in Henry's car that he spoke again, "Henry...she's really gone, isn't she?" He needed to hear it from someone he trusted, the man he had been developing feelings for since he'd first laid eyes on him.

mapplethorpe wasn't the best at reading a room, but he certainly knew that masha's body language had changed. ( they seemed much more confident before. ) now they seemed to be clinging to him more than leisurely holding his hand. ( noticed the blood, but chooses to keep it to himself. ) he has bandaids in his backpack considering he tends to come out of the park with a lot of scrapes. ( he still hasn't put one on his fucking knee, come to think of it. )
"i think the whole thing is stupid. like, i don't think i'll ever use algebra in the real world and who gives a flying fuck about shit that happened in the sixteen hundreds," he always tries to add a creative twist to history that his teachers don't particularly like. "your lucky. it's for the birds," he'll turn to grin as masha. "plus, you seem real smart anyways,"
Masha listened to him talk, they enjoyed his voice, there was something almost comforting about it, finding that while using their limited vision they already felt safe with the human, though they had to be careful that this wasn't just a rebound starting.
"History can be interesting if it's related to your personal interests," they said before hearing the compliment, a small genuine smile found its way to their lips, "thanks," they opened their eyes to see the other, not expecting to see him giving them a grin. They were already very close to the other due to quite literally clinging to him, so it didn't take much for them to dip their head down and place a soft quick kiss on his forehead, "you're so sweet."

"Back off," Scarlet's words cut through the air, her tone sharp as she walked over to the man that had been harassing the short stranger, she had been watching as she tied her horse outside the general store, but when she saw the middle aged man's hand make contact with the girl's lower back when she was visibly uncomfortable with the interaction she'd had to step in.
Scarlet was dressed in dark green menswear, her long red hair braided down her back. Expectedly she received verbal abuse from the man at first who refused to back off, even when she shoved him, however the moment he shoved her back, as quick as a flash she had the barrel of her pistol pressed to the middle of his forehead, tilting her head to the side as she waited for his next move. Thankfully he finally accepted defeat and backed off, though not before making a comment about her being damaged goods.
Returning the pistol to its holster, Scarlet turned to check on the young woman, "are you okay? The men here are pigs, sorry about that," she knew this girl wasn't from her town, it was fairly obvious to her.

mapplethorpe wasn't necessarily a fan of college. well, more so he hated taking classes that he deemed boring or unnecessary. ( why does he need to take remedial algebra when he's an english major and a creative writing minor? ) last he checked numbers had nothing to do with writing comic books. he had finally gotten out of some lecture he had already been late to than ended up dozing off a few times. ( he had been sitting in the back so thankfully, his professor probably didn't notice. ) he'll let out a yawn as he rounds the corner, lighting a smoke.
he'll blink slowly whenever a girl with nearly white hair seems to run around the back of the building. he'll bring his cigarette up to his lips, raising an eyebrow before he fully registers what's going on. ( she's having a panic attack. ) now, mapplethorpe isn't necessarily the best whenever it comes to these types of things but he knows she's been in her shoes before. ( so overwhelmed and overstimulated, everything feels like it's closing in on you. ) so he makes his way over, sucking on his teeth. "hi--..." he'll look down at her. "was the lecture that bad?"
All Maia's hearing aids picked up was 'lecture' and 'bad', she didn't fully process what he was asking her, but she shook her head, her hands were shaking as they gripped her hair, but she lifted her head just enough to peak up at who was speaking to her. Her deep blue eyes were wet with tears, her breaths were quick and shakey, she needed to calm down. "Too much...suffocating," she whispered, she hated her voice, having only really learned to use it since being removed from the cult.

His father's house; sooner or later Henry knew he was going to have to deal with selling the land and home, but he'd put it off as long as possible. 15 years long, actually. But now was the time, as his Aunt Jeanie needed repairs on just about everything in the old house she lived in, and with her stubbornness, she refused to let Henry pay for it himself.
It was his childhood home, at least for a short while before he was sent to live with his aunt, but he'd never considered it as such. To him it was his good for nothing late father's home and not his, he was glad to finally be getting rid of it instead of it lingering the the background.
Jeanie didn't have any of the fruits and other ingredients in her house for Henry to make his famous green morning smoothie, so he headed down to the general store, a place that had been a mainstay ever since he was a kid.
"Sorry, I quit many years ago." Henry said with a small smile, he'd been a big smoker during his college years, but no more. He was about to turn away to enter the store when he stopped, "Sam?" He asked, taking a chance that this was in fact his high school peer. "Sam Elliot? It's me, Henry Quinn, I dunno if you remember me, it was a long time ago." He stuck out his hand for Sam to shake.
Samuel sighed, guess I have to buy a new lighter, he thought to himself before he heard his name, wait a second. He stared at the other for a few moments as his brain processed that he was shirtless in front of his high school crush, suddenly he felt as though he was back to being the short chunky nerdy kid crushing on someone out of his league.
"Damn," he finally spoke, pushing himself from the hood of his truck and shaking Henry's hand, he still wore his wedding band, he didn't even realise he wore it most of the time as it felt like part of him. "Didn't think I'd see you back here," he said after using his other hand to place the cigarette behind his ear, Henry looked, well, amazing, he wondered if he still did tennis.
"You staying with your aunt?" He asked as he moved to grab his shirt from inside his truck, he liked Henry's aunt, his parents would send him to check on her from time to time after Henry moved away in case she needed anything, though he hadn't seen her in a while.
