The reason being he never tells anyone about how his lucidity works is because he doesn’t want people to know. Because he would rather stay in pleasant memories than face the present with his crippling survivor’s guilt (Pomni-Kinger similarity counter: 1)
I used to believe Caine had tampered with Kinger’s mind to keep him from abstracting, but nowadays I more so like to think that after trying to “fix” Scratch (and it backfiring horribly), he never tried to touch the humans’ minds again save for temporary modifiers. I just like Kinger’s spiral into insanity being his own doing idkkk (Or maybe it’s a mix of the both, idk)
It’s like he’s constantly teetering close to abstraction, but never truly stepping over. It’s like a mix of him wanting to join his friends but feeling like he’s undeserving of granting himself that “peace”.
In the show he’s very much this wise character, a shoulder to lean on specifically for Pomni and Ragatha, and I like tossing that idea around in my head (which I lightly touched on the Alt. Finale thing I made a while back)

He’s the oldest, the one that’s been here the longest, the wisest.
He needs to be here for everyone, but of course he himself finds it hard to lean on anybody else.
He cherishes his memories so much he centers so much of his time reliving them when he’s not all there, but never really quite being able to let go.
