My dust cover is based on the book Pastoralia by George Saunders, I based the whole cover off of an old photo I had taken which I felt would fit the first story, originally with the intention of adding more to the picture I was advised to keep it the way it was. There is a lot of negative space on the front cover, that is mainly through simplicity as there is nothing besides the title and author's name. The weight of the book is supposed to be everywhere else with the middle part holding a higher hierarchy, grabbing attention pushing more towards the back where a lot more positive space is used with the detailed reviews. The front flap contains heavy text on the collection of stories while tha back flap has the most tension in a small fit with a photo and a brief biography of George Saunders. The overall texture of the cover is the photo itself being unedited with a slight copy and flip to extend it more so on.

For my Vernacular type I used photos from downtown Austin to make my poster. I had neon signs, metal lids and vinyl wall print to form my imagery. The Hierarchy of my project has the focus on the word Sewer with surrounding imagery starting from sewer to the Ritz logo heading down to the word Govalle then bringing more focus up, through the I wish you were here neon sign back up to the Sewer logo. The smiley face is set over the main logo to bring more attention to it making the tension balanced once more. Almost every image has a double layer with the Ritz logo given a distorted texture and altered colored bottom layer, while IWYWH has the same aer slightly moved then opacity lowered to give it a shadowed effect. The word Sewer was copied then set on top of everything over it's original place with lowered opacity to give it more weight as the main focus. Last thing I added was the location, date and type as the secondary type to the top right to fill the negative space and bring overall focus to the whole image without disrupting the balance.

For my project the apple is supposed to represent knowledge in the world and the man with the spear is doing his best to destroy it; representing the corruption that is in our common spaces due to war and politics. The heavy tension between the weapon and the fruit is the large spark of impact. Taken from another photo the contrast was edited until the spark was the only thing seen then color range was selected for faults within the picture and deleted. The Weapon itself was attached over the photo of the man and the hands were copied and made to appear holding the weapon. The apple was enlarged to give it a heavier weight in the final product with the hierarchy being almost a diamond like arrangement if shadows were fully viewed which is also where the negative space is; within the objects and shadow.

For the profession I chose to interview a learn more about was a music producer. The guy I decided to interview is a producer going to UT he makes beats for a local rap group he's a part of that started in San Marcos. From him I learned that he came from a whole community of music producers some famous and some barely known and that the community is still united yet dead because of modern day rappers overtaking their original site. Going through the book you see multiple different artists' sets ups from just a small machine to a whole table and live instruments added. The Hierarchy of the book mainly has to do with color more than anything else starting from red, green, blue and black. a lot of the secondary photos in the book are supposed to add focus to the primary ones forming a sense of unity. A majority of my pages have an asymmetrical balance having photos place certain ways for visual pleasure in terms of size and color

For my project the concept for my animal design was based on how I viewed them to an exaggerated state. Most animals have distinct features for their species but blank expressions, The negative space in the background also is supposed to help make the positive space in the blank eyes more noticeable. With the also positive being mainly in the animal itself to balance from the black space. The weight in the Chameleon is mostly in the body, while the weight in the Squid is with it's longer tentacles and the head. For the tiger and Rhino though the whole body seems easily distributed although the feet for the tiger have more weight than the rest as for the head of the Rhino being quite large

I did an article with the headliner “Watch What You Say?” going over how a teacher made a heavy joke on Nazism in the spirit of old comedies. This wasn’t the teachers first offense and him being let go caused different reactions. The tension of the page is stretched as it starts from one corner with ever persona represented. The texture is black for all the design to a grainy almost gray-scale with white covering most of the page in positive space.

For the letter A. I decided to go with a lowercase letter in the baskerville font. Using the serif I formed a strawberry inside the letter moving away from the complexity of my other shape I wanted to go simple thinking of forming the stem over the corner of the inner shape for tension, while I let fruit be masked under the letter

For the letter R I went over lower case R in an alteration of the futura font, forming a faucet adding the actual turning part and more details on the texture to the bottom having weight pulled down on it

As I walk this trail I see a bridge to nowhere that lands on the lake. Walking closer you’ll notice the entrance to the bridge is fenced off from organic life and as you keep looking the fence branches to the sides of the bridge, all barbed. If you manage to get on the other side the alarms will trip. For such beautiful scenery it seems as if there is a best kept secret someone doesn’t want the rest of us to know. The nice trail’s tension rises as you meet the grey bridge and look past the defense. You can see the positive & negative through shadows at the end of the bridge reflect darkly off the bright water shining. The piece’s contrasting values emphasize secrecy, with minimal texture to show how this environment is untouched, truly making it a best kept secret.
