College AU Itoshi Rin and Tsukishima Kei walk in on your dance practice with your classmatesโthey need a space urgently to work on a department fest matter (the same fest that you are dancing for), so you allow them to work in the same classroom that your group is currently practicing in. They sit a good distance away from the area you've cleared of benches and sit together with their laptops and headphones onโthe true image of studious and high achieving youth!
Sometime in, the girls start whooping and Rin looks up from his screen when his co-working partner doesn't respond to one of his questions. Surprisingly, Tsukishima has abandoned his work in favour of watching the scene in front of him. Rin follows his line of vision, and sees you dancing by yourself with your friends sitting around you in a circleโone of them is recording you with her mobile.
It's like watching fireworks explode in set patternsโeach BANG that your feet produce with alternate stamping is contrasted with the graceful sway of your arms and the intricate mudras that your fingers fashion themselves into. Your feet weave through intricate footwork and he remembers the last time he watched pistil fireworks explode in the setting sky. Your smile is bright enough to light a thousand of them at one go, and he thinks of the proud peacock shaking its feathers open to greet the first drops of rain and clap of thunder.
You catch his eye and you beam at him. His ears turn a bright red and he looks away. But then something catches his eye and its Tsukishima looking at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Your responses were lukewarm," Rin says.
"I'm not the one getting distracted." He shrugs in response. A vein throbs in Rin's temple.
"So you weren't looking at the girls earlier?"
"I didn't say that now, did I? I'm used to multitasking all the timeโdon't tell me you've never learnt toโ?"
Before either of them can say anything next, you're bounding up to them with heavy breaths. "Hey guys, can I get some water?"
"Can't remember to fill up your own bottle?" Tsukishima scoffs (hand already reaching behind for his own), which gives the perfect opening for Rin to smoothly hand his flask to you. You gratefully thank him, oblivious to the death glare the volleyball player is lobbying in his direction. If Rin were childish enough to stoop to such trivialties, he would be preening with smug satisfaction.
