Putting aside the inaccuracy (understatement) of AI overviews, summaries, etc. There is sometimes no better way of understanding something than to just Read More Words. And in turn, conveying something sometimes just needs to Use More Words. Sparknotes and tl:drs are great for those short on time/uninterested whatever. But there's an unspoken trade off there that you're not going to get the full picture or draw your own conclusions with that. I feel like people are being failed by being sold the idea that they can somehow get the same understanding out of an AI summary than they would if they actually Read The Words. There's no way to condense a nuanced message into a single sentence and still get the same understanding. This has been rising a lot with media consumption too. People want to watch clips and never the movie, read the fic and never the book. Maybe automated summaries make your work faster but then you're not actually doing any of the work are you? If you aren't doing the cognition to understand, how can you be expected to apply that understanding practically? If you're relying on an AI to turn your short bare bones message into a three dimensional story/essay/whatever, that's not your message anymore. It's quite literally assuming it knows what you meant to say. You're giving your grand speech outline to a parrot and expecting it to convince the masses for you.

People are becoming afraid now to use their own words, their own brain, their own skills. AI companies are stealing everything original and then devaluing what grows back so you think they hold all the food, and the only way forward is begging them for slop. They're parasites.
