O God, I showed sincerity by cutting myself off from everything but You.
Imam Zain al-Abedin (ع) Sahifa al-Sajjadiyyah 28:1 (via shiaislam)
this is nice. this reminds me of the Buddha. so we learn to let go of the suffering in life. we let go of the good and bad kinda. or the cravings of the flesh. we learn to be in a medtitative state and to feel emotion as it is useful to feel. when one passes for instance, we possibly don’t feel sad, because we know they went to a better place. at the same time we act sad to make others feel comforted. so while we feel the emotions that are smartest for us to feel to make our lives go in the best possible way they can go, at the same time we show the emotion others might need us to show. this is for the those that need help at times when the emotion is too hard to override. so we know with our intelligence what the smartest emotion is for us to feel and we might still feel anger for example, but at the same time we know we don’t necessarily have to feel angry to correct the situation that angers us. and we know that as we train our intellect the intellect learns to override the primitive feeling of emotion
