He's hesitating. He won't shoot me. I can see in his eyes, the realisation of what he's doing, the questioning, but still the pain he's been feeling for a year, pure, unfiltered rage. He's taking his anger out on me still, beating me with the butt of his rifle. Each hit hurts less, but the heat of the blow felt the same.
I'm growing tired, limbs giving in on me, beginning to accept my fate, even praying for it. I'm so tired, i just want this to be over.
'Just shoot me. Please' I beg, with all energy i have left in me. This catches him off guard. He stops, and hesitates for a while.
' I'm going to. I just want you to suffer first, can't let you go that easy.' He says, confident but shaken. I begin to slump, breath slowing down. Hayden begins to panic, but won't let on. He stops for a brief second, rubbing his neck, unsure of what to do now.
All thoughts he had were interrupted with flashing blue lights. Panic flooded him. He knew he was done for. He looks over, see's my slumped, beaten body, and does the only thing he can do, threaten a hostage.
Megaphones heard in the distance, a familiar, deep voice. Hotch. Pleas and civilised bargaining for the life of the beaten agent. Clear aggitation and desperation on his face, pacing back and forth, weighing his options. While Hayden is distracted by lights, megaphones, and his own worry, he doesn't notice Morgan sneak through the back door, only the next distraction. A singular tear escapes my eye, they heard my prayers, they are my prayers. I knew my team could never let me down. They are the smartest, most caring people i've ever met in my life.
The door bursts open, Morgan emerging, gun in hand, pissed off facial expression, he takes a quick glance over to me, checking my status, my injuries. Eyes instantly go back to Hayden, stood with the rifle pointed to my head, determination apparent in his eyes. Neither were going to back down. Morgan began to speak, as to distract and disarm Hayden.
'Reiner, i know you don't want to do this.' He says, voice desparate, but firm.
'You don't know jack about what i want!' He retorts.
'I know you just want to do right by your brother, you want to right the wrong that was done to him. But you can't bring him back by claiming another life, all you're going to do is ruin your own.' This time, with slight sympathy and understanding in his voice. Behind them, the front door slowly opens, Hayden having his back facing the door, Hotch and Spencer easily creep in and take position, slightly apart with guns aiming at Hayden. Spencer catches me in his sight, chest tightening as he see's my condition. Full of concern, he keeps his composure and concentrates on the unsub infront of him.
'Let her go, Reiner.' Morgan says, clear anger in his voice.
'She needs to die. She deserves it, she was so fine taking Dominic's life, she deserves nothing but the deepest depths of Hell!' Hayden screams. This sends rage through Spencer's body. All reason, logic and protocol goes out of the window upon hearing this. In an instant, Spencer drops his gun and dives at Hayden. Subduing him and throwing his gun. Sitting on his back, Spencer grabs his arms together and cuffs him.
Morgan and Hotch take Hayden outside and into a cop car. Spencer rushes over to me, placing a hand on my bruised cheeks, observing my injuries. My eyes barely open, but managing to take in the sight infront of me. Spencer unties me and gently lifts me up, carrying me slowly toward an ambulance.
'I'm gonna ride with her, take her statement and sit with her while she recovers.' He says to the team. Hotch takes a step closer and looks at him.
'No problem, but, Reid...' He starts.
'Never do that again. You were careless. You let your emotions get in the way, we can't have that happen again.' Spencer nods and climbs into the ambulance. Sitting beside me in the cramped vehicle, he grabs my hand and squeezes.
'Stay with me, please, please' He begs, trying to keep me concious until i get to the hospital.
'I know you can do this, you're so strong, you're the strongest person i know' Now stifling back tears to remain strong for me. A small smile creeps on my face, as it's all i can do at the moment, it means the world to Spencer. A small giggle comes from him as he notices the amount of effort it took to do that, he knows i'm holding on for him.
He gives a small kiss to my forehead as the guerney was removed from the ambulance. Rushing behind as I am being taken to my room. Spencer is informed to remain in the waiting room while tests are done. He waits for hours, enough time for the rest of the team to join. Each asks how i'm doing. Spencer tells them he doesn't know, but he's expecting to hear soon. Visible shaking and heavy breaths.
'Jess?' A nurse scans the room. Everyones head peeks up and walks forward.
'She's ready for you, she is on lots of pain meds, she may not be too responsive.' She added. Everyone rushes to my room. My bed now fully surrounded by familiar, comforting faces. My eyes flicker and a smile spreads across my face.
'Hey guys.' i say with a quiet, raspy voice. Smiles erupt all around the room. Everyone saying their 'Hi's' in unison, JJ is first to ask how i'm doing, i explain that i'm in pain, but lucky to be alive, thanks to them. Emily tells me how cool my cuts and bruises are, making me giggle, then instantly regretting it. An Ipad screen lights up in my periphery. Glancing over i see Morgan holding it with the screen facing me. Garcia.
'Hey diva! Glad to see you're still knocking around! Never EVER scare me like that again! do you hear me? i will PERSONALLY make it my mission to follow you everywhere until--' Her rant interupted by Morgan saying 'That's enough' and ending the call.
'I believe pretty boy has something to talk to you about' Morgan glances over to him with a smirk. Everyone understanding and slowly exiting the room, also with smiles on their faces. Spencer's face is flushed. I shoot him a confused look as he shuffles closer and sits in the chair beside me. It's silent for a few moments before his eyes meet mine.
'um.. so basically i was talking to Hotch before we came and got you, i told him how i broke my promise to you..' He says before i cut him off.
'You didn't break it, you found me, you saved me.' I say with a calm voice. He giggles and looks down.
'That's exactly what he said. But i was telling him that you tried to talk to me in the BAU before the case, and that you seemed hesitant and nervous, and that i thought you didn't trust me. But Garcia heard and you know what a tattletale she is.' He giggled again, still looking down.
'Oh my god.' I say as i bury my face in my hands, knowing exactly what she had told him. He takes my hands from my face and holds them. This time only smiles and eye contact.
'She told you i feel the same way right?'
'She did, but i didn't believe her, i hadn't noticed anything' I admit awkwardly. He laughs and kisses my forehead. Moving my hair out of my face and tucking it behind my ears. We just smile at each other for a while, until Spencer check his watch.
'You should really get some rest, you've had a tough day.' He says, taking one last look at me before he stands up to leave.
'Can you stay?' I say quietly.
