I'm tired. And I'm scared. And I'm not happy at all.

Kongdech being upset because Tanrak didn't trust him and because Tanrak isn't going to seminary with him was painful because, yes, it's a betrayal but also because he kept giving Tanrak a chance to tell him and Tanrak was so scared and so unsure that he never took those chances and that only hurt Kongdech more. He tried to be a good friend but he was never given the chance.

Now, it makes sense that he was never given the chance considering how the priest made it clear that choice was between his love and his faith and that Tanrak couldn't have both but that doesn't mean Kongdech thought that.

But this comes down to that idea of also separating the specific person from their bigger faith and boy do I know how that that can be. Because when the bigger faith says one thing how do you trust the person in that faith not to say that as well? How do you know which believer will be on your side and which will choose faith over friendship or family or even love?

Kongdech does have a right to feel betrayed because Tanrack didn't tell him the whole story but that isn't the whole story for either of them because Tanrak had more reasons to distrust him then to trust and not just because they're literal scholarship students reliant on a school and belief system that condemns them as they are.

Also I think people are slightly misunderstanding Kongdech. He doesn't read as much judgemental to me as much as bitter and jealous and self-centered, which I fear is relatively characteristic of teenage boy to feel when he thinks his best friend is completely drifting from him and won't say why.

He does make it clear that Tanrak can and should do what he wants after his mom tries to push him to be in seminary school, and it even seems clear that his problem woth barthtanrak is less about them being together and more about them 1) not telling him and 2) basically doing it under his nose and, in his words, treating him like he's stupid. He doesn't out them despite him clearly knowing what's going on. So while yes he is clearly very resentful and passive aggressive, and that's objectively annoying, and he says some very hurtful and guilt-trippy things to Tanrak, i think his thought process and character as a whole is pretty understandable (not justified, just. Understandable).

I'm a bit confused about people's confusion about episode 4 😭 in every episode so far the scripture at the beginning signaled what it would be about (most pointedly, episodes 2 and 3 were very clearly about lust). When I saw this episodes scripture was solely about love, and how it came from Corinthians 13, I immediately clocked that this episode would be about barthanrak actually falling in love with each other. While I understand some of the technical critiques and this is probably my least favourite episode so far, it absolutely serves narrative purpose. If the story is working towards having Barth and Tanrak end up together, it has to provide narrative justification that Tanrak would have enough reason to give up everything he's known since he was a child to be with another guy. While lust may be enough for some people, I felt this episode made it clear that that wouldn't necessarily be enough for Tanrak, as he seems to chalk it up to just wavering from his true path. So it makes complete sense that Tanrak would need the fully falling in love aspect to make his decision even more complicated (which I believe we'll hopefully see in the last 2 episodes). The fact that Tanrak is able to experience some reprieve/freedom only when essentially no one else is around for vacation is also not lost on me.

Another thing is that I'm confused about people wanting more of tanrak's backstory? Not sure if it's because I'm Christian myself, but growing up in church and just sticking with it is not an uncommon reason to be faithful/devout at all. Add that to the fact that we saw right from episode 1 the connection to his parents, I'm just a bit unsure of what more we could go into without being redundant.

I understand expectations have been high for this show, and I don't want it to see like there aren't very valid critiques, but from what we've seen on screen I don't know if these are the big issues some people are making them out to be.

After having some time to stew and lament over that gorgeous last 10 minutes of episode 2, I'm wondering if the fast-paced editing leading up to that scene was actually intentional to draw a contrast to how slow and uncomfortable it is? It's like last week we were in Barth's memories of 1996, where everything moved fast besides the glimmers of Tanrak, but now that we're in Tanrak's head that slow descent into lust is so intentionally pronounced that it slows the entire thing down.

I may also be giving the editing team too much credit here 😭 will have to rewatch the uncut version on Viu to get a better reading

i'm constantly blown away by Fourth's acting and Ticket to Heaven is proving that to me.

Those last 10 minutes of such an intense war inside yourself of lust, guilt, yearning, shame....to be able to portray that with absolutely no dialogue so effectively and in a way that is so evocative....I've literally been speechless about it since the episode ended.

I have some minor qualms about the editing of the show (likely due to the episode count as well as me watching on Youtube), but that entire segment of Tanrak at the end gives me a lot of hope that they know how to give the important moments time to breathe. P'aof and the entire team did their big one with that last scene especially, and I think the show from here will only get better.
