I know you should never compare relationships but I really have to because my current relationship really has opened my eyes.

I used to be with someone who was in love with the IDEA of a relationship. She liked the idea of me and somehow convinced herself that she wanted me but it was the moments she wanted. She wanted to make memories and wanted someone but didn't want me specifically. And it's okay because now I have found someone who wants someone and that someone is me. I get to share great memories that'll last forever with someone who loves me. Not the idea of me.

For my birthday she took me to Seattle but before we left, she surprised me by decorating the first room I'd walk into when I woke up (that's right the bathroom). While I was asleep she covered her bathroom in streamers and balloons and hand written stuff on the mirrors. Then she drove us to Seattle and we spent a day just going around Seattle. Walked around Pikes Place, she took me to Chihuly glass museum and Art of the Brick! It's crazy because I would've never thought my birthday would've gone this way. All my birthdays in the past have been shit.. so who would've thought my 22 birthday would've gone this way.

honestly, I'm pretty glad that my girlfriend lives in Portland/Washington because this distance really allows us to do so much. and looking back on my past relationships... all I ever was, was possessive over my significant other (but I mean because of the relationships I was in that's how I pretty much was brought up on... possessiveness) and that's so super unhealthy. But allowing my partner to be free and her allowing me to do so as well, is honestly how every relationship should be. Every relationship should feel like this. We never argue. We put in so much work. We aren't possessive over each other. There are no restrictions and there should never be in a relationship.
