I've always wanted to photograph surfing. I think it started when in 5th grade I attended a surf camp (summer babysitting) in Oceanside, California when we were living the next town over in Carlsbad. Then I was landlocked for a while. A whole long while. Anyways, long story short, I bought some swim fins being shipped from Hawaii and found an underwater housing that's affordable for my point and shoot. When he was younger, this boat was used when he first learned how to duck hunt. After decades of changing hands and most recently being in a museum- the original wood covered in fiberglass and rotting underneath-it made its way back to him. He said it'll take a few weeks to get the fiberglass sanded off and he's on the hunt for a rare Juniper lumber once used for ship building around here years ago to match the original hull. It sits in his grandmother's backyard behind her home built in the late 1800s with the Currituck Sound on one side and property once farmed by his family as far as you can see.
