Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was dumb and bad but babyraptor Blue is EVERYTHING and I love her and I want one <3
Whoops, first I had to delay the sketch because I got sick on saturday when I usually do these, then I forgot to post it when I finished it yesterday.
So uh, a belated Athena, from greek myths, which won my Patreon sketchpoll.

Build up to Thor Ragnarok and the big disappointment it was
I remember when it was first announced what Thor 3 was going to be called, I got all excited thinking it was going to be much darker and more epic than Thor Dark World but then we got this
The âtouchingâ elevator scene isnât even a genuinely âtouchingâ brotherly moment.Â
You can look up this analysis post a little.Â

The elevator scene isnât touching. Itâs a portrait of familial dysfunction.
I think I reblogged this before but every time I see it it strikes a chord. I wish I was prepared for the shock of changes in TR but I had no idea. I watched it under very different circumstances and it was a major let down. Iâm just gonna vent about it now for my own benefit, and be all sorts of miserable. I did make this blog almost purely to vent so, here we go.
I only watched the Thor movies all in September 2018, two months ago. And I had no idea that TR was going to be the way it was. I was trying to avoid spoilers so I even stayed off social media after watching Thor 1 and being blown away. (I was so surprised by it because I normally find Marvel movies a bit too action-over-brains and shallow. Pure personal taste, no insult intended.) TDW was cool I thought and I was so excited to see TR because I saw so many people say it was the best and that it would unite Thor and Loki. And thatâs all I really wanted to see; the brothers sort out their family issues and grow.
So one evening I had just submitted a massive final report on a project which took me a year to complete, so to celebrate I excitedly decided I had time to watch TR. At first I thought some stuff was funny but after a while I realized that I was still waiting for the movie to start, you know, for it to get interesting.
As it went on, I got bored a few times and had to pause it, because I was thinking about other stuff as opposed to what was actually happening in the movie. My adhd people will understand what Iâm talking about when I say it takes us 5 hours to watch a 2 hour movie if itâs not that interesting to us. You know that âreading a paragraph while not reading it at allâ feeling that many people get while reading something boring? Well this was a major âoh noâ moment for me, as Iâm very attention deficit and I struggle to watch long movies that are not deep and intriguing enough to be capable of keeping my focus. Flashy-flashy is not going to keep my focus, it is going to overwhelm me with nonsense and make me space out. I had none of that loss of focus in Thor 1 because of the integrity of Lokiâs story.
I think I first paused it when Thor was going through that weird scene in the chair explaining Sakaar and I was like âwtf is this crapâ and went to get some coffee. I remember getting slightly annoyed at Thorâs callousness overall, and wondering why he was lying and being a bit bratty and manipulative the whole time on Sakaar. He always seemed to be commanding and he had âa presenceâ before. But he went a bit⊠Snivelling? While he was on Sakaar. Idk but thatâs what I thought and I was literally ??Âż? Where is the Prince??
I paused again while he prayed to Odin because we had just been learning what an asshole Odin is and I was confused?? I ended up on Facebook or something and then realized I was supposed to be watching Thor so I went back.
The last time I paused was to sit and cringe. I paused after the electrocution scene with Loki and I just sat there staring feeling weird. I can actually remember that quite vividly because I seriously paused a comedy movie for the sole purpose of processing that I felt weird and needed to just sit and squirm in discomfort and humiliation. I was disappointed as well because I eagerly sat forward when they were teaming up to escape and I was sure that theyâd now finally fix things and look eye to eye. That was the interesting part that I had been waiting so long for, the time when they reunite. I thought it was coming and I couldnât wait. And then I got that instead, Loki being a pointless moron with a nonsensical trick, and Thor gloating at how inferior Loki inherently is while Loki jerked around helplessly on the floor. It actually messed with me quite a bit now that I really sit and think about it. I felt personally humiliated for thinking Thor would respect Loki, because it portrayed Loki as worthless and I felt stupid for thinking that wasnât the case.
I watched the rest a bit in trepidation and disbelief. I was internally cringing still from the above scene and feeling defensive. I knew Loki would do the âYour saviour is here!â thing as Iâd seen it on Instagram, but I couldnât believe heâd return to Thor after that. When Thor and Loki interacted on the bridge I felt it was an uneasy, unspoken âhold fireâ because Loki was cowering or something and not wanting to provoke Thor. When Asgard fell and they told jokes I felt annoyed. And then the movie ended with Thor telling Loki he is not âtotally pathetic I guessâ and Loki just submitting to that degradation.
??Âż?
So when it was done I just sat there like âOh, itâs finished thatâs it.â And I felt noooothing, none of the starry eyed elation and fascination of Thor 1 or the excitement for the next thing I got from TDW. I googled something like âwhy was Loki a joke in Thor Ragnarokâ and came across a reddit I think it was, saying it was to make sure Thor was the favourite. And I felt disappointed and didnât know exactly why because I also liked Thor a lot and I wanted him to get attention. I just thought the whole thing was very, very weird and disturbing me a bit.Â
I forgot about it because I had so much to do the next few days. Later I was hit with confusion, as I sat wondering why the hell it made me feel so personally humiliated. Itâs because Loki was degraded and put in his place for being too popular, and the fans who appreciated his complexity were punished and told to fuck off for not liking the âcorrectâ character that Marvel intended them to. Thatâs why itâs personal.Â
I made this Tumblr blog just to post my thoughts to really try work out and process why I felt so awful about this.
And here I am. Have a bit more clarity now, and itâs as disappointing as I feared it would be. I still wonder what happened to this⊠Really wish I didnât trust it, to be honest. Would have been less disappointing.

Such a noble and awesome character! My number one pick for Minister of Magic.
